Pretty happy about it.

Its... a bike and then stuff. Also like two weeks ago i was hit from behind with a taxi. I was pretty ok. Took a chunk out of my thumb and the bike only needed a shortened fender. Which made it look flap-able more so

My friend just picked up a frameset for me in the Bay Area. It is a 1970's Gitane track bicycle. Pretty excited to build it up. Will take photos once it arrives later this week. I would use the photo from the craigslist add, but the quality was horrible.

Heres the other
I've only ridden MTB before, even in town.
My last rusty, twisted, walmart-tier MTB was stolen a few weeks ago (snipped lock).
I got this old Raleigh for free to replace it.
I feel like the handlebar is too low, can I switch the stem for a longer one?
It's not even comfortable to reach the brakes this way, even dangerous.
>>893468
And this is my stay-at-home MTB.
>>893468
you can move the brake hoods much further up the bar. The limiter is you should still be able to reach the brakes with atleast 1 finger from the drops position. You could also rotate the bars further up, the limiter being that you should still be able to grip the drops without your hands sliding off because they're too steep.
However, you're supposed to actually pedal on a road bike, not just coast like a lazy cunt. I imagine things will begin to make sense once you put in a bit of fucking effort.
>>893472
Okay, I'll get it to the workshop next week and fiddle with the positions.
Also when I got it the bars where at such an angle, brakes had to be triggered with thumbs. WTF?
I know it's a gottagofast bike, but I can't really do that between two red lights and six gorillions cars in Paris.
I thought the guys at work were fucking with me about my bike glowing until I saw it by accident.
>>893475
Yes you can don't be a pussy faggot. The safest way to ride in traffic is to outpace it. That's old man grandpa tier relaxed setup anyway, nothing wrong with that, but jesus, git gud son. Also angle your wheels quick releases along the tubes so they don't snag open, and photograph bikes from the other side.
>>893479
The quick releases will go anyway, as I've already been stolen wheels and saddles.
Why the two bottle mounts?
>>893480
That's not my bike, just an example, but it's really good to have 2 bottle cages. You should drink 1 large bottle every hour (more in the heat). Sports drink (buy a big tub, not that expensive) is better than water because you'll get sugar which you burn off immediately and which really helps and electrolytes which you lose from sweating and which you need to stay hydrated. It's ok to have 1 bottle and refill with water, along the route, but sports drink is better. I like to mix it up a bit, ice tea in one bottle, or whatever. I've been drinking mostly just water, 1 bottle and refilling it, but we're just coming out of winter. In summer, just water is not really viable. Plus bottle cages are handy as fuck for carrying anything. I had some bbq pork buns stuffed in one today. Get a bottle cage dude. If you want 2, use hose clamps + an old tube to protect the frame.
>>893468
Nitto makes a tall quill; model name is "Technomic." I'm unfamiliar with French vendors other than xxcycle, so just fart around online to see who stocks it. As mentioned, you can rotate the handlebar upward a bit and move the brake levers aft to better suit your arm length.

Hey is that the sport? I'm thinking of buying the allez comp on sale, how do you like the frame?
Srampagmano
>>893988
It's not the sport no, just the standard E5. Overall I like the frame, the ride is pretty smooth even on the shitty roads in my area. However, I'm making that statement without a whole lot to compare against. My previous bike was a cheap Schwinn cruiser, and my only other comparative basis consists of the bikes I test rode before picking this one. It beat out the Caad8 and an SE Racing Royale.
New Scott Speedster after 40 miles in the rain and flooding here in Houston... Well after an hour of cleaning and relubing too. The LBS I frequent stopped carrying Scott so the owner gave me it at cost because Ive bought two other bikes and tons of parts from them. Sora and Tiagra grouping and heavy wheels, but super fun and cant beat the price I paid.
>>894193
That's a sweet bike. I love Scott but they're disappearing near me too. Underrated as fuck. How much was at cost?

This is my 2014 Scott Speedster 40.
Originally around $900; I got it for $400 on consignment. The guy apparently rode it 3 times, and traded it in for a recumbent. His loss, my gain.
It now has a bike lock, computer, water bottle, LED front/rear lights, and an AssSaver seat mudguard.

seems pretty bad (in the good way)... cool man!!

a more neutral color for the panniers would fit better; that slight criticism aside, I'm really feeling this build. really nice bike and outfitting, clean as hell. I do like those bags aside from the red on them, it clashes with that awesome two-tone you've got going on. white or light grey would've been perfect

she's a good bike, anon. but that bar situation, while practical, is fucking ugly.

we all do stupid shit when we're young. just convert her back to track-ready once you're in your 30s, okay?

shame about the stem shift and it undoubtedly weighs a million pounds.

you spent a lot of money on this, too.

for that price, you came up big. you'd probably spend close to that for the fenders, lights, rack, and generator individually. it's not an awesome bike, but the way it's kitted, it is a very good bike.
please tell me about the generator. make & model, and I would like to know how much resistance it creates. when you spin the rotor with your finger, is it like spinning a rollerskate wheel, or is it like spinning a spoon in peanut butter? the oldschool ones were the later, but yours seems more modern.
anyone else have info on them? if the frction is low, I'd rather that than lacing a generator hub into my wheel.
