Why aren't you twinks posting 26" rigid drop bar conversions?

You might actually be too stupid to be on the internet.

Drop bar conversions on those old bikes end up looking and riding like train wrecks. The steering geometry just doesn't add up.

Better to use a bike that was intended for drops in the first place.
>>
>>884214
...God dammit, those tires caught my eyes and now I'm pissed. I have the same ones on an old cantilevered frame that I've been converting to utility/transport/light off-roading, and that stem is EXACTLY the kind I'm looking for to pair with a butterfly bar to complete the project. That's it. That's literally all I need. That exact fucking stem there.
>>
>>884216
IIRC, that setup was stock on a couple mid-range Cannondale road bikes back in the day.

Beautiful. Are those the old school WTB bars? I really want some but they're like a hundo. On the subject, wtf is the difference between the Gary Sweep and Gary2. I really wanna do up my '90 DB Ascent. Origin8 page lists no differences.
>>
>>884108
Are Brooks good for touring? I know they're supposedly the GOAT saddles but they take ages to break in, how long do you need to use them for before they break in enough to be comfortable to tour on?
>>
>>885086
They DON'T take ages to break in. Just ride your bike.
>>
>>885086
it's like 500 miles max for break-in. That's like a week on a tour, max. Shut the fuck up and ride.

My 7 speed suntour powerflo cassette catastrophically failed outside the town of Pt. Reyes Station while I was on a 300mi. mixed terrain tour.

I rolled into town with my casstte zip-tied to my spokes and desperately asked the LBS if he had a 700c touring wheel so I could make it to SF the next day. Luckily the owner was a real professional and hooked me up with a new wheel. He had quite the collection in his shop too.

>>
>>885450

What's going on with the frame on the sixth bike from the left on the wall? (the teal one)
>>
>>885450
Why in the world would you tour on a suntour cassette unless it had low use or was NOS.

I'm confused please answer a couple things, were you running friction or indexed shifting?
If it was indexed how did you continue with a new wheel. Is the spacing close enough for indexed to work with shimano spacing?

Did you take closer pictures of the bikes?
>>
>>885655

it's a super old mountain bike where they were trying to make a beefier truss frame with more standover clearance.
it also has cunningham brakes

The suntour powerflo cassette isn't something you see often, being a mechanic it's interesting. And raises a lot of questions. Sorry you don't understand.

Guy with 9 trains!

It was NOS, I must have installed it incorrectly. It was a pain in the ass to install. I remember some nonsense design of loose ball bearings. It all seemed snug with the locknut, but I guess I fucked it up.

I was running indexed, and only 6/7 gears would stay in place after I moved to a new shimano 7 speed. One of the middle cogs wouldn't stay. I hated that system start to finish. Going to eBay the Command shifters to some unlucky soul. However I think I could have reverted the shifters to friction mode if I knew how.

It was only 40mi. from my Hostel in Pt. Reyes to SF (felt like much longer with that climb around mt. tam)

No more closeups, sorry. I will get some next time I go!

Yep, I got a good deal on a NOS aluminum flat bar that matched the width of my original riser bar.
>>891100
It's strictly my commuter now that I have a dedicated mtb. I mean it always was, but it doubled as my weekend trail bike. The pursuits worked pretty well actually, they were just ugly.

The tires in the pic were 2.1, yes. Now that it's a dedicated commuter, I'm running 1.5 Geax Roadster slicks.
>>
>>891149
>>891100
Oops, just realized you were asking what kind of tires I was running. Some dry-rotted Kenda tires I took off a Walmart bike in the pursuit bar pic. Panaracer Fire XC Pro in the flat bar pic.
>>
>>891123
I have the feeling you've never used trigger shifters. Shifting is so much more satisfying with them.
>>
>>891149
>>890154

>>
>>891157
I do, they are both old pictures. I've always had the brake I just needed the cable lol.
>>
>>891153
>Shifting is so much more satisfying with them.

i have the feeling youve never used grip-shift. shifting is so much more efficient with it
>>
>>891190
Not that guy, that's exactly why I don't like gripshifters, it's too easy to accidentally shift if you move your hands around the bar, overlap the shifter and then get low/stand/ride through a rough patch.
>>
>>885655
Not anon, but I recently put a 7 sp shimano freewheel onto my full suntour drivrtrain (indexed) and it works fine
>>
>>891195
Yep. Change position slightly, click click click slip
>>
My gearhub came with triggers, I downgraded to gripshift and haven't looked back. Any gear, any time. But they don't work as well with derailurs.
>>
>>891195
>>891231
Just to make this clear, you both have never ridden a bike with good grip shifters? Because if you had you'd be singing a different tune.
I'm talking about current gen or last gen sram xo, it's amazing. I understand people not liking gripshift based on the garbage the market is flooded with.

Yes, I'm serious. Ride quality steel forks, or carbon if you stay on tarmac at all times. For your comfort, enjoyment and safety.
>>
>>898766
I have several bike One with a carbon fork, two with a steel fork, two with aluminum fork. I've never noticed any serious difference between them except at high speed (one of my still bike starts to wobble then). I'm convinced the thing about uncomfortable aluminum is an urban legend.
>>
>>898766
I ride a CX bike that has aluminum forks. Doesn't the 32c wheels absorb a lot of the vibration? Or am I fucked?
>>
>>898773
It is. Aluminum was popularized at the same time bike manufacturers were going apeshit with stiffness, so people started associating the material with terrible ride quality. It's possible to build a comfortable aluminum frame like the CAAD10 or the old Kleins.

>>898784
You'll be fine. My steel racer has an aluminum fork and 25mm tires, and I can ride it all day long without gloves.
