Who likes trucks?
Discuss and/or post pics on nice diesel beasts
cab-under master race reporting
Heavy hauler!

A lot of truckers in the US are still very fond of the long nose classic look and not functionality.
>>767660
There are advantages:
-potentially better aerodynamics (not often used)
-crumble zone in case of accident (why would the driver want that?)
-No need to tilt cab
-easyer access to engine bay
-Less height restrictions to cabine
-engine not immediately under driver (noise)
-more intuitive to drive because front axle is ahead of driver
-longer wheelbase makes tractor much more stable in solo use
-much more room to fit all the technology (do you have any idea just how cramped the engine compartment of an Actros or TGA is), bigger fuel tanks possible
The US don't have restrictions for the lengh of the tractor (nor for tractor + trailer), so the cab over engine concept doesn't offer too many advantages to them
always liked the volvos
>>767700
Also it looks like you're sitting so low that it would be a safety hazard because you can't see further down the road than the Honda Civic in front of you.
>>767700
good points!

>>768152
wow this looks so comfortable
>>768152
Where are the giant gearshift levers? Don't tell me it's an automatic?
>>768214
It is. Look at the 'shifter' on the right edge of the driver's seat. I just drove 10 days in a similar one. Auto is shit. SHIT.
Nothing worse than having to work around the transmission rather than having it work for you.
>>768197
It's not if you have long legs. Volvo seats are very short (front to back), so it constantly feels like I'm going to slide off the front end.
Many cyclists have gone under trucks here recently and been absolutely wreckt.
Truck drivers have an even more hostile attitude towards cyclists than car drivers.
But they're careful and pay much more attention because they have a healthy fear of killing someone unlike most drivers.
They're kind of like huge thugs who hate woman because they're afraid of being convicted of rape.
Trucks are fucking terrifying. On the open road they're bad, but if you have to ride through heavy truck routes in industrial areas, be so so careful. These things are rolling death.
In New Zealand roading is all geared towards trucking. Rail freight is almost non existant. Steadily more and more small towns on the main routes are being bypassed to make trucking more efficient. This kills the town. The bakery closes down which makes a huge difference.
How could any self respecting cyclist not hate trucks?
>>768341
how is it you put yourself into harms way and then blame everyone else for a risk you knowingly took? Stop shitting up the trucking thread you stupid fucking cyclists have enough threads to shit up on your own.
>>768341
Why are you talking about trucks like they are individuals?
>>768333
is it an I-shift? I've heard a lot of drivers like them
>>768341
Bikes come on trucks bruh. Every fucking physical thing you ever buy touches a truck. I'm a cyclist and involved with trucking.
Aero trucks with carbon fiber trailers when?
>>768814
I came. Thanx for the new desktop wallpaper.
>>768814
That is ugly as fuck. I can't imagine a driver wanting to drive that ever.lol
>>768850
You must really love paying a lot more for gas.
>>768854
>gas prices around the world tumbling to lows not seen in 15-20 years
>hurrrduurr you must really love paying more for gas
>>768814
Fucking hell that's beautiful!
would love to drive /10

That speed and fuel efficiency will make freight rail obsolete.
>>768858
Why did you intentionally ignore the point? And the fact that they will inevitably go way back up?
>>768862
> That speed and fuel efficiency will make freight rail obsolete.
Rail will always be more efficient.
>>768862
Oh child, you'll never beat the efficiency of rail.
>>768854
>>768858
The concept is designed to run on natural gas. Not the type of fuel that Ameritards call "gas".
http://news.walmart.com/news-archive/2014/03/26/walmart-debuts-futuristic-truck
>Although the prototype currently runs on diesel, its turbine is fuel neutral and can run on compressed or liquid natural gas, biofuels or other fuels.
>>768867
>Oh child
Don't patronize me you autistic fucktard. The only reason I'm allowing you to reign on /n/ now is out of pity. Rail is dead. You know it. I know it. You can have your fun now but soon /n/ will be bikes, planes, and trucks. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Thank me later.
>>768877
>rail is dead
Huh, better tell that to my bosses and all of our customers that ship far more by rail for much cheaper.
And nobody is denying that trucks are fir that last mile, but you're never going to be able to move as much grain or other bulk products by truck as you can rail.
Love 'em kenworths
>>767334
Why did Ferrari build a truck?
>>767307
I love the strictly utilitarian looks of the Japanese cab-overs for some reason.
Where is the sleeper?
I wonder how over the road trucking works in japan?
>>769568
There is no sleeper. Basically a day cab.

Rail can compete for the last mile for places where there is rail access. There's no inherent difference in cost between a rail tractor (shunter) and a road tractor (truck), nor is the workload of a truck driver inherently easier than that of a railroad engineer.
However as long as the railroad pays for the rails but the government pays for the (truck) roads, it doesn't really make sense to compete for it. Plus, railroads are more unionized and have to comply with much stricter safety regulation.
>>768862
cool! but ill just take the trailer

>>768333
pretty much all euro trucks are autos or syncros
>>770122
Yet another reason to not live in Europe.
>>770071
>nor is the workload of a truck driver inherently easier than that of a railroad engineer.

Confirmed for not knowing what it takes to shove 8,000 tons down the side of a hill with no airbrakes to a spot.
>>770275
Really? Try to do the same with a 8,000 ton truck.
If anything, railroad engineers have it easy enough that they can at all do that and—get it—call it a routine job.
>>770361
>Implying you carry 8,000 tons on a truck.
>Implying you'd be allowed to move 8,000 tons on a truck without air brakes on the trailer.

Here's a gallery with more pics.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with synchros
if i could get a peterbilt nose and cab on some small wheels, dropped with a pick up truck bed, i would be proud to drive what i drive
i like the less flashy guady one better, white would look nice. definetly gotta tonedown the flashy trim to keep from looking like a douchenozzle
I'd love to own this international cxt with a manual transmission.
These things are awsome!

I drive a volvo FH12 like this one, but its purple. 420 hp 12 litre with 12 speed syncro box. Its a pretty sweet truck. Bit old but its only used for flat towing busses when they break down so its not doing big ks. Before that was a C series ERF, which I dont have any pics of either
>>778294
I should say also, its got a big concrete block on the back for ballast, I welded a couple of old quick releases to the back of that so we can put our mountain bikes on top. So its a big truck with bicycles on the back towing a bus, thats /n/ as fuck.
>>778301
You have to take pics of this!
>>777670
FEMA death truck?
>>768814
Shame it's wasted on Wal-Mart.
>>767307
That us one of the ugliest pieces of shit I have ever seen.
>>768333
You realize of course that if you lift the front of the seat edge up and at the same time pull it forward, you gain about 4 inches of seat depth..... and the I shift 13 speed is the best transmission on the planet. The. Best.
>>770758
Just delivered this guy to OK
>>780101
I don't see your mom anywhere in that image.
>>774883
so whats the deal with these? are they like motorhomes's used for deliveries?
i would soooo totally be a trucker if i could drive one of these
i wouldnt mind losing out on some loads cuase of the length and weight
i wouldnt mind getting paid less if i got to make stops and hang out in town for a couple hours in the cool cities
would be bitching to live in one these with a gf

>>781010
>motorhome
Yes.
I've only seen one of these in Australia. The driver was a regular for a while in one of the warehouses I worked and he always did a Queensland run (from Melbourne). He said he knows a few others like him and they were all grey nomads who lived on the road with their wife. Making money on the road to fund their retirement.
His truck was called 'The Flying Dutchman' and he would always come back from Queensland with watermelons to give to the forklift drivers. Top bloke.
>>773803
it looks like hit hit a wall
>>783869
>welcome to australia
Not nearly enough Loadstar in this thread.
