>Try to find info on trains
>Find a forum
>Forum is full of literal old men who spout off ISBN numbers and tell the OP to buy those books if he wants info
>Books are long out of print or expensive
>Rinse and repeat with the other communities out there
Is there any other hobby full of people as backwards as there is with trains? Most hobby groups out there have no problem sharing pictures or info but for some reason a lot of train hobbyists have this sense of "honor" and believe you should track down print materials because "it's the right thing to do." I even saw someone say they had a picture an OP was looking for but he wouldn't share it because it was in a book, and if OP wanted it he should purchase said book.

It just blows my mind that that there's so much information out there that's not being shared because a bunch of old people think it's wrong to share it.

tl;dr Is there like an archive of train books anywhere? I have a thirst for knowledge.

Only senior citizens and people who are too poor to buy their own PC go to the library desu.
>>

trainfags are autistic, more news at 11

A place with a very limited selection?
>>
>>1096651
Or people that are serious about researching a topic. Books are often out of print and the cheapest, easiest, and best way to get them is through the library. Especially now that libraries loan one another books all the time.

Further, I cannot fault the gentleman much for not posting a photograph from his book. It is technically copyright infringement and it is wise to support the creators of this content. Otherwise the knowledge might be lost or never even collected.

I have quite a few train books that I bought a decade or so ago, I've checked some of them out online and nowadays the prices are way more than what I originally bought them for. The problem is that most railroad books cover niche topics and are printed in limited runs for a few diehard fans who never intend to resell them. Thus quantity is limited and prices on the used market are exorbitant. Same goes for certain model train models.

I would scan and upload certain books I have but the problem is not that I am fundamentally opposed to sharing. I'm just too lazy to do so and there's not much return on time invested, unless I planned on scanning it and then selling the physical copy.

What books are you looking for?

>out of print
>reference book that require a 1/1,000,000 miracle to receive a second edition/printing.
>secondary sales supporting the author
WEW FUCKING LAD
>>
>>1096666
Stop crying and get a library card, sonny. You can even check out some of those nip comic books you like so much.
>>
>>1096668
No, they make me pay for them to ship books.
If copyright was sensible and only lasted 2-3 decades, then an absurd amount of knowledge could be digitized and archived.
>>
>>1096670
A lot of shit is already digitized by Google, they just can't make it available due to copyright issues. Which is pretty frustrating especially when they material you want to view is from fucking 1925.
>>
>>1096672
The content I want are the legal codes from a non-extant nation.
Orphan copyrights are cancer.
>>
>>1096657
>What books are you looking for?
Anything related to British trains.
>>
>>1096670
>He doesn't know media mail shipping is super cheap
Oh man, $3 to send you an out of print book is such a hardship.
>>
>>1096724
Last time I asked for a digiralized scan of about 30 pages of a thick book from Australian library and get charged 15AUD
>>
>>1096773
Enroll in a university nearby or contact one and see if they'll give you library privileges for some kind of nominal fee.
>>
>>1096776
That still only give me access to libraries in my territory instead of libraries in Australia
>>
>>1096649
If you think a library would carry some of the obscure books the OP is talking about, I have a nice bridge and some water-front land you might be interested in buying.

>Anything related to British trains.

Well hang on fuck me, there's a shitload of in-print and second hand books on "British trains". Shit I accidentally have two copies of one about Westerns because I forgot I already had that one and it was cheap on Amazon.
>>
>>1096638
Things are complicated copyright-wise, because a lot of information and pictures are "stuck" in various long out of print magazines and books. These old farts very much honor the copyright law and yes, many of them have the mentality that acquiring the knowledge was hard for him, should be hard for the new generations as well.

This shitty hide-the-lamp-under-the-basket mentality. Autism spectrum, rail hobby and old age tends to do that to a person. It's prominent in the electronics community as well though in there a spry mind can device the solution from available facts.

Except I live in the US where no one else gives a shit about british locomotives, and the ones that do are autistic Thomas fags who only care about protoypes that their favorite characters are based on.

Finding shit here is even harder.

>Finding shit [in the US] is even harder.

Look on Amazon.co.uk & ebay.co.uk. Look at specialist sellers like https://www.bookdepository.com/category/2974/Trains-Railways

Most all of them will ship internationally.
>>
>>1097014
That's because British trains are the most autistic type of trains to focus on, American diesels being the least autistic. Big steam also attracts lots of spergs.
