How reliable is your local rail network? are you able to get to work on time using public rail PT?
>>
I wouldn't know. I'm not freight.
>>
metro is falling apart, literally on monday night the train i was meant to catch pulled into the platform with no power, and that section of the line was shut down the rest of the night

LIRR is typically reliable (within five minutes of schedule at worst) when there aren't troubles with the East River Tunnels or Penn Station.

The most reliable branches are those that typically do not serve Penn Station (West Hempstead, Hempstead, and Far Rockaway).

There's a serious problem causing hour long delays about once a month. Sometimes it's electrical/mechanical issues, but the most common problem is just one crackhead deciding to play on the tracks. It brings the entire system to a standstill.
>>
It's falling apart. The national company prioritize long distance high speed trains.

I use only one connection in a "regular manner".
~30 minute ride and my stop is right in the middle of eastern european forest.
There's not even a platform to speak of. Just a flat, raised mound of dirt reinforced on the sides so it doesn't fall apart after rainfall.
Not a single source of light after dusk either. Spoopy and I love this place. Different fucking planet. Once took a late train it was getting dark, I get out, the train takes off and reveals a overturned shipping container and two men in hooded jackets with their hood on their heads in front of an oil drum fire pit.

It's pretty good. The most it's been late is two minutes. May sound like a horror for a Japanese person but for a polish train it's an absolutely decent score.

The (second) most reliable in the world.
Unfortunately we had the 5th breakdown/disruption in 9 days.

You can't say no to accommodating the profit-making mainline rail traffic.

They have an RSS feed for all service disruptions, which in the last 12 months published about three articles per day on average. (Though duplicates happen, when an article is edited, it sometimes shows up as a new entry for some reason).
Every other day there are announcements about a handful light rail trips being cancelled, usually 5-10 per article. They never give a reason for this, but it's mostly lack of drivers.
Then there are traffic accidents, mostly affecting the tram network, happens about twice per week. Also parked cars blocking lines (interestingly these all seem happen in the same street).
The feed also includes planned disruptions like construction works (which we have a lot of for the tram tunnel) but also stuff like some village having a street festival resulting in a bus stop not being served for a day.

My cheapskate city built its rail along existing freight rail lines, and it stops every fucking block as it goes through downtown, so it's fuckin worthless for getting anywhere.

locals like to make fun of it, but overall i's pretty reliable (unless od course when there is some construction or a strike)
but i stopped living that life and am now fully independent due to my new bicycle. honestly, the feeling of having 100% the control over whether you're early or late is so liberating.

Its really reliable since its shutdown for maintenance every second weekend (no joke)

which shits me cause i like to catch the train somewhere and then ride home on the weekends.... or go to ocean and have a few drinks and not drive... all on the weekend

its obvious our train system was built purely for office drones and public servants... god forbid anyone use public transport to have fun

pretty much this. i just moved back to berlin after having lived in frankfurt for years. compared to what's going on down there, bvg/s-bahn service is tokyo-tier

What city?
>>
It depends. I usually don't have too much trouble with Dutch NS or Arriva trains, people jumping on the tracks are usually the biggest inconvenience other than planned construction or renovations.
I don't use it to get to work, but I've only ever been delayed by an hour like once because of a disruption in the train lines.
>>
Eh, if you can get directly onto the train and only need to go either north/south or east/west, you're fine. If it involves the bus or switching to another line or even going too far north that you need to get off and wait for the train that goes 8 stops further north than your current train, you're gonna need a spare 2-3 hours one way. That's not including if it's Sunday or they're single-tracking it.

honestly asking for suggestions of any country that is better in their train reliability.

London underground is great, although you do get your odd signal failure once a day

SEPTA?

LIRR-Port Washington Branch, typically:
-AT LEAST one incident per week that causes more than usual delays;
-ALWAYS later than schedule due to leaving Penn late (waiting for trains to clear the tunnel and cross in front of departing trains);
-Frequently non-incident delays, i.e. some bullshit like we leave Penn extra late, we go extra slow through the tunnel, the DOORS TAKE 2 MINUTES TO OPEN at MULTIPLE stations, etc. that make us 10-15 minutes late, even during non-peak hours;

So honestly, it could be better. Remember, LIRR considers 6 minutes and under to be on time. Are we ever truly on-time, like when the schedule says we're supposed to be there? Rarely. It's so expensive yet has consistently the same bullshit issues. Could be worse.

Came here to say this.
>>
>>1096322

In Northern NJ, NYC and Long Island, the whole rail network is fucked due to a lack of maintenance for decades and centuries. Penn station has alot of old stock track first laid down sometime in the 19th Century that has not been replaced and it caused many trains to get stuck the past year causing delays so unacceptable that they figured they cannot push the issue into the future any longer. So they are doing emergency repairs that have restricted the amount of incoming due to the track being replaced and the situation is not supposed to normalize till September. But that is the official timetable and could get pushed back. The MTA of NYC is also a clusterfuck with old signaling equipment and badly maintained track.

The problem is that the USA has lots of freemarketstani cunts that will scream if the railroad system in the economic powerhouse tristate region is ever given the proper funds from the government. Because "her derrr" that is socialism, but they don't bitch about all the roadways and highways that don't generate any revenue in rider fees unlike mass transit and are total loses...
