Our city has quite a few pedestrian streets. There is an effort to convert a main avenue downtown to a walkable car-free transit boulevard.

In my city, every Sunday from 6 to 14, they close a number of big road stretches, though they're usually not connected with each other so it's just for leisure rides rather than transportation. Still, it's fun to see cagers rage when they're confined to a single lane.
