It already has a duorail and such a new system would suffer from incompatibilities everywhere.

I'm still sad about that.
>>
>>1085954
Monorail is shit elsewhere than its habitat.
The HKSAR-CPC evil axis is trying to build one in the open spaces of Kai Tak Development, not somewhere hilly, curvy, crowded.
We have enough demand for more heavy rail.

THOSE AREN'T MONORAILS. Everyone calls them monorails but they're not. APMs have way more in common with light rail than a monorail.

1. Limited space
By that I mean very limited, between narrow streets, skyscrapers, road/highway medians, and somehow you want to fit in some transit, meaning you or historically your ancestors were dumb.

2. Gradient
Hilly terrains and built-up areas along sharp slopes like Chongqing)
3. Curves
Requirements on turn radius stems primarily from 1, sometimes 2 to navigate along ridgelines and contours.
4. Generic people mover
Then you should ask yourself why not get conventional rubber-on-rubber guideways. You never know when you need to branch out from the existing corridor.

Complaints on footprint and visual obstructions are fussy. Get a cable car if you care about them that much

It did. It took the state government almost 25 years to finally admit it served no purpose, so they bought it back from private ownership and demolished it.

Its legacy will live on in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
>>
>>1086639
1. It's situated on Kai Tak, ruining the flat landscape.
2. Cost-wise it needs more than double the fare to survive financially compared to trams, and has minuscule RoI.
3. The new bridge crossing would cuck ships out of a typhoon shelter. Tram will use the former taxiway bridge.
4. The HKSAR is using this to excuse themselves out of the congested inner city industrial area and demand for heavy rail.
5. HK needs tram on Kowloon.
6. Monorail still takes up valuable space ground level with poorer accessibility when low floor street level stations will do.
7. Absolutely worse flexibility and room for expansion.
Hong Kong can use a monorail, not in Kai Tak.
A competing new East Kowloon Line (related to aforementioned heavy rail demand along this corridor) is the perfect proving grounds.

Infrastructure is more expensive that a surface rail line + it's not easy to alter/expand when you want to add a new connecting line, branch, etc. Also, monorails are slow.

Because they're expensive, noisy, ugly and the complex track infrastructure is a bitch to maintain. Not to mention they can't go as fast as the heavy rail we already have. Also, we have a meme streetcar the leftist city government is sinking money into so any major public works are off the table for the next ten years.
