We almost had a monorail in Jakarta but due to some political fuckery (and of course, corruption)and the debated route(as it only served certain parts of the city catered to The Upper class) construction was stopped and the Concrete pillars serve as a reminder.
There are plans to resurrect the monorail plan but then it was cancelled and replaced with another project called "LRT"

Infrastructure is more expensive that a surface rail line + it's not easy to alter/expand when you want to add a new connecting line, branch, etc. Also, monorails are slow.
