EAGLE FOR THE MASSES
THIS IS NOT A DRILL

>The 50-tooth cog is aluminum, but the other 11 cassette cogs are stamped steel. The entire unit is held together with more than 100 stainless steel pins.
I know weight savings and all but I don't like aluminum sprockets

i feel you on that bud. i'll probably wait til some long-term reviews drop both because i'm curious about the life of the aluminum 50 and because i want to buy a new wheelset for my cx bike in the immediate future.

it's an sscx bike right now, because i fell for the 'one ring: suffer-ring' meme but the frame has tabs for a derailleur hanger if i want to swap to geared.
really want new wheels and hubs first though.

It's more because 50 is bigger than a MTB chainring, and they need it to have thicker splines.
Its still way cheaper to get a nos x9, xx, or xo crank, a narrow wide chainring and an expander cog for the 10s cassette. You'll only miss 1 cog at half the price and no mtb needs a 50t.
Oooooo! 1x12...I can finally have what the guys running 2x6 back in the 70s had without having to shift up front! So exciting!

pretty exciting when you have more terrain to consider shoving your bike up, down and off of than flat tarmac or (gasp) GRADED tarmac.
Can I mount this 11-50 cassette on my rohloff hub?

>specific cog that gets used most is designed to wear out faster
That's more super villain stuff than Shimano could have ever done
>>1081864
Non issue. The 50t is definitely not going to be the most used cog unless your climbs are so steep you have to winch up them slower than walking speed. Even with my GX 11spd I don't find myself using the 42t granny that much.

Oh, I misunderstood. I was totally wrong. I was thinking in reverse, as if they had made the smallest one out of aluminum
