>>
That's some high level delusion.
>>
>>1074905
It's not delusion, it's clickbait. Outrageous claim is cheap way to inflame interest. Don't click, don't read, don't do anything but block as much as you can.
>>
I already forgot how to change my oil
>>
>>1074904
That's bullshit. Gas isn't going to run out in a couple of decades like this fake news article implies. Electic cars are still regarded as prototypes instead of a real car by most consumers. Funny enough electric cars actually predated gas cars but they have never really had much market share. Even today maybe 1% of cars are all electric, with another 2% being hybrids. And that's a high estimate. Not to mention they are significantly more expensive and are subsidized more than gas cars. Look at automatic transmissions for exampe. Those have been around for decades and only in the past few years have major auto manufacturers done away with selling manuals in the US market. Cars will be driverless before they stop using gas.

I myself own a 15 year old car. Mechanically speaking, it's in great shape, doesn't have too many miles for its age, and gets good mpg. I intend to get another 10 years out of it, though it'll probably see less use as I bike a lot too. Maybe then I'd buy a new Tesla or something with a 1,000 mile range and with a driverless system that won't kill me.

>>1074907
Yeah and it's really annoying how so much clickbait has saturated huge swaths of the internet.

I don't think I still have it in 8 years and if I do, well into the trash it goes then. The roads are already so much busier than when I started driving. The fun is already gone. The relaxation of driving is gone. So I won't be missing it too much. At least I got an excuse to buy a bike trailer...

It is you who is suffering when she gets nailed by Jamal when you're gone.

Yeah, that can be a realistic number when you're factoring in all 7.5 billion people on earth.

I think only somewhere between 5-10% of all humans currently own a car.

Of course oil is subsidized, just like car imports and suburban housing are, and a ton of other things. That wasn't my point though.

When gas will be so expensive everybody will want to seel their cars I'll trade a twingo for a bike and convert it to gazogène.
Then when shtf I'll be the last one to mad max on my coal powered car.

"No more gas card hurr Durr Tesla carz so good space hyper loop by 2020 musk genus apple buy buy buy!"

Too bad a 2008 Honda Civic runs like new

And a 2018 civic will probably be running well into 2038
>>
>>1075289
Electric cars = super expensive consumer electronics.

$100k disposable Tesla car that's outdated when the new model comes out.

Expect to trade in your electric cars like.a new iPhone previous gen is "updated" to be unusable forcing the upgrade and killing a secondary market except for scrap

It's already happened.

Google Tesla s p85d p90d and p100d

When gas gets expensive and carbon fiber cheap, commuter cars will be carbon fiber super-light things.

loads of places are planning to ban ICE vehicles ing 2030, so now unless they are super rare, all prices will free fall as you don't be able to drive them anywhere.

not leasing so you can get that new car smell without being in tons of debt.

also those are just iterations due to the advances in battery technology.

Yeah, and I'd bet that nearly every one of those people would jump at the chance to own one if they had the money. Except maybe people who live on boats, blind folks, and a few bicyclists who post on /n/.

2017 Honda Accord, $0 down $209 a month, maintenance covered for the entire 36 months

All I pay is gas and insurance.

What kind of car are you buying for $5000 these days

A 1996 Toyota Corolla?

I'd be paying way more than $209 to drive that around
>>
>>1077397
>What kind of car are you buying for $5000 these days
a 2005 honda accord
https://houston.craigslist.org/cto/6150082642.html

and you're forgetting the biggest part
after 36 months in a lease you have nothing
after 36 months in a car you bought you have a car worth just slightly less which you can sell

leasing is for morons, as is buying brand new cars

to buy the accord i drive now

i would have had to put at least 5 down, and have a monthly payment of 270 for 48 months at 0% apr

i like the car but not THAT much

i plan to lease another honda in 2020
>>
>>1077568
Perhaps you should live within your means?
Nah, what a stupid idea. Muricans always must have the latest and greatest.
>>
>>1077716
I can afford the car but what good would it be to put another $12000 into it to sell it for $7600 3 years from now?

Your argument is to buy it so I have something to sell at the end of term.

But if it costs me significantly more to purchase the vehicle in order to sell it for a loss what good was the effort of selling it on the first place.

Also we're talking a Honda here that they're blowing out at $5000 BELOW msrp I'm not living above my means at all

it says in less than a decade
>>
>>1077721
Have you considered that you don't need a brand new car always? A 5, 10 or even 15 year old car is completely valid option nowadays and they often provide all the same luxuries as a brand new one does.

I have driven a 3000€ Volvo S70 for the last ~5 years. Not a single major technical problem even though it has over 300 000 km on it. Comfier than majority of brand new cars.

Diesel? Possibly. The auto companies haven't been truthful about diesel emissions in the last couple of years and it has caused more problems in Europe than solutions. United States has not been big on diesel.

Petrol? No. Not for another 20-30 years.
