My shimano sora front derailleur cage broke. Should I replace it with the same or are there more durable alternatives?
Replace it with a SRAM.

cable ties bruh

I have another Sora FD in the parts bin
You in socal?
Nothing wrong with Sora, will just have been bad luck.
>>1073816
No, Finland.
>>1073806
What the hell were you doing that you managed to actually *break* it? There should be almost zero force on either derailleur at any given time.
Go look at the Shimano compatibility chart and see if 105 is compatible and get one of those. Front derailleurs are not expensive so why not get an upgrade?

Looks like he tried to shift into the small cog and the cage pushing on the chain made it give up
>>1073847
That's what he gets for cross chaining
>>1073849
Nothing wrong with cross chaining. It's not 1980 anymore.

Why is that galvanised bolt not screwed in?
>>1073915
more aero
>>1073818
This probably. There's nothing that is more durable about the upper tier cages except the pivots are made better so they get less sloppy, and sometimes the plating is better and more durable.

How new is this bike? Maybe just take it back to where you bought it and ask them to fix it for free.
>>1073834
Yeah If you were in the US I'd just give it to you for free
But I think Finland is too far sorry man

I tried to contact the supplier(bike-discount.de) but they are being dicks and don't reply to e-mails. I'll have to call them or something.

No. The only force on a downshift is the derailleur spring, and that is waaaaay too weak to even bend the cage - never mind cracking it open. I'm guessing something got stuck in the chain and was forced through. Notice how the deformation happens where the cage is narrowing.
A piece of gravel or twig combined with extraordinarily bad luck. Or he fucking stomped on it/crashed.
