What does /n/ think of these locomotives?
>>1072212
Wow the Britbong loading gauge is small.
>>1072351
And what of it?
>>1072212
It's a really useful engine.
>>1072436
Yep, all around Southern England they went. Yet a pair went to the Edge Hill Light Railway, an endeavor that was near dead on arrival.
bootleg e2s
>>1072212
best terrier is WCPR no.4
>>1074216
sure gavin
>>1074216
Wasn't that one scrapped?
>>1074215
How?...
You think they are small until one is next to a P Class. Prefer A1 to A1X though.
Any of you lads work in the rail industry? Got an apprenticeship assessment day booked with Network Rail on the 31st and looking for some advice.
Pls take an A1X as a peace offering.
>>1074387
Likewise, Fenchurch has this design.
>>1074400
I don't but my sister's boyfriend is. However that's the same Terrier as OP's photo yet however.
>>1074451
XD, I'm a thick shit I said however twice!
>>1074451
Fair play, I'll admit I'm biased towards BR black!
Have a much smarter looking one in SR livery instead.
>>1074674
An Isle Of Wight Terrier too I see.
>>1074679
Good Eye!
I might post a few other types of British tank engines if people wouldn't mind? Trying to only post hi-res pics and I've only so many Terriers I'm afraid.
Don't tell the cyclists, but it's nice seeing a good old fashioned train thread on /n/ imo.
>>1074686
It's okay and it is, who cares what the cyclefags think? Anywhom if you want to know the current whereabouts of Sutton it's at the Spa Valley Railway undergoing overhaul.
>>1074704
That's good to hear, I'm always impressed by the time and money heritage railways invest in restoring various bits and bobs.
What's your favourite tank engine anon?
Pic related is one of mine; a (ex)GWR 1400 tank engine.
>>1074829
Oh I like the 14XX too.
>>1074940
Yeah here's another (much better looking imo) in GWR livery.
I've been tempted to get a few DLCs for Train Simulator as what I've seen, they're really accurate recreations, but fuck me they're expensive.
>>1074962
I have a Hornby model of a 14XX, 1427 it is numbered with the post war letterings. Yet the one I have has the letterings nearly worn off.
>>1074976
Do you have a layout atm? I've got a few Hornby locos in storage as I don't have the space for a layout yet, been thinking about getting it all set up again.
I've always liked the simplicity of an 'Austerity' styled engine, such as the Q1; to keep it thread relevant though, here's a Hunslet.
>>1074995
That I do, also I have a model of a J94 too.
>>1074996
Cool, when/where's your layout set?
>>1075004
It has no setting location or time setting wise. It's very simplistic and me and my dad share it.
>>1075008
Oh cool, that's what I used to do as I find it a bit difficult to commit to historical accuracy.
Pic related I find interesting an ex GWR 5700 which (among several others) sold to London Transport and were used well into the 80s iirc.
Got any pics of those models anon?
>>1075010
I don't have one in London Transport livery but here's the one I have.
>>1075011
Looks cool, I like the addition of the crew!
>>1075015
I bought it second hand from a model railway exhibition two years ago.
>>1075017
Fair play.
I hope no-one on /n/ was affected by what happened at Manchester recently. Without going full /pol/ I'm seriously concerned about what will happen to this country unless we start taking action.
>>1075083
I hope May does take some kind of action about it but still. Let's have /pol/ discuss it.
>>1075108
Yeah I'd rather keep the discussion thread related anyway, so that's probably for the best.
Getting back on track, another nice pic of the 5700 class
>>1075186
Here's one Pannier I've seen many times.
>>1074400
I've been for the same thing at York - A basic knowledge of the railways and just common sense will get you through the day. Day works like this - Split into three groups, one does a Q&A with a ex-apprentice, one does admin stuff (paperwork) while the last does the interview. Interview isn't anything technical, just "what would you do" questions and the like.
Group activity for me was trying to build a bridge. Didn't complete it.
I got to reserves, so good luck.
autism
>>1075218
Thanks anon, that's very helpful at calming my nerves!
Hope this Jinty is a good reward.
>>1075202
Lovely photo. Any idea what rolling stock that is? Looks SR to me, but by no means an expert.
Didn't mean to split my post in two but the captcha was really playing up for some reason.
>>1075218
Sounds like fun.
>>1075223
Thanks. It's British Railways Southern Region
>>1075227
Thanks, as a Southerner that's nice to see! I'll probably dump a few more pics tomorrow as I've been busy recently, make up for lost time and all that.
So if anyone has any requests I'll try and find something?
>>1075228
No problem, I live in Kent and I've been at college/Betteshanger today.
>>1075431
That's cool, I'm in Kent myself.
Sorry I had to temporarily abandon the thread, had to go deal with some stuff.
What are you studying anon?
>>1072351
Invents the locomotive,
Lets built some long railways
Hills everywhere, gonna need some tunnels
How big should we make them?
How about only as big as needed to fit the loco in?
[some time later]
I'm going to build a new loco/wagon/carriage, how big can it be?
You see that tunnel....
As much as I adore 14xxs and other Western finery, getting back on topic, an A1
>>1072212
A CUTE
>>1075997
Don't worry, I was away too and sorry if I just left this thread. I am studying construction.
>>1076157
The A1 design is best.
>>1076161
For sure.
BritBong trains are so cute
>>1076938
For sure.
>>1076823
That's pretty cool; I have a few friends in the industry, great career for sure.
>>1077144
Nice, how long have they been in it? Plus I assume that photo is on a preserved railway?
>>1077144
3 years is the longest; we're all quite young.
You'd assume right, it's on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. That pic in particular was taken in 1998.
>>1078542
I see and speaking of the Keighley And Worth Valley Railway the Coal Tank came down to the Bluebell Railway for their branchline weekend back in May this year.
>>1078544
Bluebell Railway is a fantastic visit, I'd recommend it to anyone.
Finally got another A1X in pic related; probably the most famous one too arguably.
>>1078628
Oh I've been to the Bluebell Railway before and especially that Branchline weekend. Fenchurch is probably the second best, which I prefer the A1 design best.
>>1078633
Fair play, Fenchurch is a close second as it's also very nice.
Got an email from Network Rail saying I'd gotten into the reserves for the apprenticeship scheme, like the earlier anon in York; so I'm hoping I get in via that route.
>>1079665
That's good, may you be passing NRM York at all?
>>1079689
I wish! Never been to NRM and it looks amazing. I'd be at Gravesend Depot if I'm lucky enough to get picked out of the reserves.
Have you ever been to the NRM anon?
>>1079698
I've never been either but I know they have a Terrier called Waddon. Yet I would like to go but at the same time people say or have said that the NRM is messy and displays are dirty.
Plus that sounds good, being at Gravesend Depot.
>>1079706
Really? That's a shame, as they have so much history on-site there.
Yeah lots of stuff happening there with High Speed 1. What's /n/'s opinion on the proposed High Speed 2 anyway? As it's generally hated by the public, although if done right, I think it could be quite a good idea.
>>1079814
Yeah, on HS2 I am quite mixed about it.
>>1076825
Indeed it is.
>>1079706
The NRM is a fantastic place for britbong trai/n/fags like us. The main displays in the hall are great, but there's a backroom you can go in that's just piled to the ceiling with trinkets, models and the like.
The Crewe Heritage Centre is worthwhile too, and both places have vantage points to watch trains out of York or Crewe stations.
>>1080109
Indeed it is, I've been to the Didcot Railway Centre and the Swindon Steam Museum Of The Great Western Railway.
Both of which I really liked going to.
>>1080111
I'm going to Didcot soon, what are the exhibits like? Anything on the NRM's caliber?
>>1080117
From what photos I have seen of the exhibits locomotive wise that they look clean. When I went to Didcot was back in October 2013 and Swindon back in September last year.
When I went to Swindon City of Truro and King George V were there.
>>1081489
Ah, 32678 Terrier I've often seen.
>>1081498
Personally I think it's cool how some of the old style signal boxes, like in your pic, are still in operation.
In fact, iirc there's even a few semaphore signals still on active service. Maybe someone with more knowledge can shed some light?
>>1081502
This one here in Canterbury West station.
It looks like it is in use, despite this photo being nearly three years old.
>>1080117
Didcot is better. Superb. Best railway centre in the UK especially for GWRites
>>1081543
I'd like to go to the Didcot Railway Centre again someday.
As we're now speaking of the GWR on a Terrier thread I may as well find a Terrier in a GWR livery to compensate.
>>1081510
I know there's still a box active at East Farleigh too; albeit electrified. Even has an old fashioned level crossing gate too!
>>1081544
Do you know much about that pic? I wasn't aware that the GWR used Terriers, so now I'm very interested.
>>1081502
>In fact, iirc there's even a few semaphore signals still on active service. Maybe someone with more knowledge can shed some light?
Most of Cornwall is still semaphore signalled.
>>1081574
The Great Western Railway got their hands on a Terrier that ran on the Weston Clevedon And Portishead Light Railway, however I believe that Terrier was scrapped.
>>1081575
Hastings station in Sussex has some too.
>>1081574
Nice, especially with the old gate too.
>>1081575
>>1081586
Wow that's pretty cool, I had no idea there were still so many semaphores in active service. Really gives off the 'classic' train feeling seeing them in action.
>>1081588
Yeah that gate is still manually operated too, which is also a nice sight.
>>1083013
I wouldn't really know if they're in use.
Glad to hear that those gates are in use.
Also, these models are the Terriers I have, left is 2662 (Martello) and No3 (Bodiam).
>>1083054
Very nice engines, you're tempting me to start buying some new models, but alas I don't think I could afford it right now unfortunately.
>>1083094
2662 is second hand and Bodiam I got from an information centre at Robertsbride Junction station.
>>1072351
Smaller gauge allows for tighter curves without resorting to expensive infrastructure like tunneling
Also, the axle load is lighter so stuff like track and bridges cost less money
