Are drop ends a meme?
Yes
Stem on flat bar bikes is optimized for flat bar reach. Hood position on drop ends is just too far out, which is exaggerated even further from the bars being so wide. Maybe if you had a 120 mm stem and reduced it to 60 mm it might work.
>>1071410
no, but they're not quite as similar to actual drop bars as most people think. I had some on my bike for a while before transitioning to full drops.
>>1071425
>he got tricked by the dropbar jews
What is this a race? Fucky half-assed "solutions" are good enough for you. I know because I know what's best for everyone.
Yes and that's a good thing. Memes are life. SLAM YOUR STEM!
>>1071410
Why would you not just get actual drops? I don't understand.
>>1072776
They are cheaper and easier to remove. My point is, it's exactly the kind of things you should offer a child.

i was thinking about having those bar ends for my mtb until develop better fittness. i really struggle with the climbs and slowing the others down. i think i could use less energy climbing if i could grip forward of the handle. not sure if it would work out tho.

real talk, those fuckers made a world of difference when I only had access to a hybrid for two years.
>>1073557
More like someone who does long rides unlike you and therefore wants access to multiple hand positions throughout his/her rides.
>>1074158
It's got naught to do with fitness
It gets your weight further forward on your bike while you're climbing steep stuff
>>1071410
They are very useful if you can only afford a shitty, second-hand flat bar bike and you climb a lot during your commute.
For any other situation, I wouldn't bother with that.
>>1071415
Don't forget that flat bars are usually wider than drops, so drops like in OP's picture will be waaaaay out there.
>>1072776
Let's say you already own a flatbar bike, and you're starting to get hand numbness/pain on longer rides, due to the lack of alternate hand positions.
It's waaaaay easier and cheaper to solve this problem by bolting on some bar ends, rather than buying new bars and brake levers and re-doing all of the cabling on the bike. Don't forget that the derailleurs may not work with road STI levers (Say, you have a Shimano 10 or 11 speed drivetrain, or SRAM 11 speed, you're SOL. Even if you have something broadly cross-compatible like Shimano 9-speed rear derailleurs, the *front* MTB and road derailleurs still had different cable pull), so switching to dropbars will entail some drivetrain fuckery as well.

who needs 6+ hand positions, truly?
>>1071410
Life is one giant meme, follow your heart anon
become the most precious memer and put spinaccis on your bike
(enjoy death from hand pain if the shims don't fail before then)
here's a pic of me last weekend
passed 3 dudes with drop bar ends on the straightaway and won the whole race. $1,000 cash. I'm going for state champion next weekend. Big money. Don't share this move with anyone for another month. 'our secret'
peace /n/
>>1074774
yes that is my point if i have to lean forward and hold myself with arms bent i bleed more energy climbing. i want to conserve energy.

did the seat push your balls up in your bell?

thats not you lying faggot

It is me. Check the footage. I won the race.
Come race me IRL at the state champs if you think you're so smart

i did that once and now i'm stuck in this craphole with you neanderthals.
i'm definitely gonna get some bar ends. today i got so fucking tired of the same hand position by the end i even tried to cup the sides of the bar. i don't even care if it doesn't help with climbing much.

>>1077593
Aero bars
>>1077594
For what purpose?
>t. mountain biker
>>1077595
For getting into an aerodynamic position.
>>1077595
For getting into a comfortable position, basically laying down on your bike. Nice for an extra hand positon on multi-hundred (or multi-thousand) kilometer rides. Ignore anyone that says they're for aerodynamics. Protip: They're not (except when used on tt/tri bikes and RAAM/Tour Divide bikes, but the bike in question is none of those).
