Average cyclist weighs 200 lbs
Average car weighs 2000 lbs
200/2000 = 10%
cyclist contribute to 10% of overall road damage yet pay 0% of the road repair cost
and they wonder why "cagers" hate them....
bad logic, but good girl
ill allow it

truly downs my tubes
this is obvious bait, but for those wondering: the common rule for the wear incurred on a road is proportional to the weight of the vehicle to the fourth power, meaning the wear of a bicyclist vs the wear from a car is
(200^4) / (2000^4)
which comes out to one ten-thousandth as much wear.
unfortunately, the "road repair cost" comes from the highway fund which is only paid about halfway by usage taxes (gas, tires, registration, tolls), with the other half coming from the general tax fund, which cyclists pay into just as much as anyone else. meaning:
cyclists incur one ten-thousandth as much damage to the roads
yet still pay half as much in taxes
>According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the average vehicle weighed 3,977 pounds in 2012

I own a car and a bike.
Your argument is invalid.
>>1063627
road repair costs where I live are paid by income tax. most likely this is true where you live too. I make $115k a year, which means I'm contributing more than most cagers. you're welcome, btw.

>9 ton big rig
Maybe just the tractor. A fully loaded tractor trailer is going to be four times as heavy.
>>1063641
Wait, then how much more damage do 18 wheelers and other huge trucks do compared to regular cars? It must be that most of the damage is done by them, not 'regular people' right?

How did Opie get both these numbers wrong?
>>1063998
it's actually 100% gas tax you dumb fuck
>>1064358
sure kid
>>1064291
Pay your taxes you worthless shit.
>>1064291
Yes, but if you make them pay for all the road maintenance, businesses will pass those costs on to consumers of the products they haul, so everyone ends up paying it again.
>>1064342
It's actually subsidized big time boi.
>>1064326
The numbers for the cyclist seem reasonable.
An average North American has a mass of 80 kg and the mass of the bike, clothes and luggage will round up to 90-100.

Is that a Salsa Vaya?
Man, I want one of those.

>road damage
Square law applies. Doubling the weight quadruples the road wear. Even accounting for obvious troll, your numbers are way off.

Bikes have weight too. The average American male weighs 180-195 pounds and the average bike probably weighs close to 30 pounds. That said the average cyclist is going to be lighter than the general average, probably closer to 170 pounds so 200 pounds total is a pretty good estimate.
>>1064001
I had no idea an H2 was so much heavier than a Tahoe.
Also, how does the road wear work with regards to weight distribution? A semi can haul 40 tons, but that's on 4-5 axles instead of 2.
>Fat Man on a Freakishly Heavy Bicycle
It's like they added that line just for me!
Thanks for paying for our fun, cuck

Your average cyclist drives a car too.
