Wow, that's a big train.

I saw an O-scale model of a UP 4-8-8-4 on sunday... "holy crap that's huge.." was all that came to mind.

Those Poles liked armored trains.
Narrow gauge bonus for my last pic.
Armored trains are one of the stupidest ideas ever thought up by military idiots. You can stop one with a crowbar. Picture is of heroic Cuban bulldozer that won the battle of Santa Clara in 1958.

They were pretty effective in the Russian Revolution, but armored trains make no sense post-WWII.
What's the point of armored trains? Can't they just derail it with an ied or shell the track?

I saw a Gauge 1 model at an expo back in January. It was roughly the size of a small child, and probably cost more than a second-hand car.

They were a good way to patrol/guard important infrastructure (railroad) with heavy weaponry when the alternative was to walk or load everything onto horses.
Sexiest train reporting.

Is train driving a good career? Do you get paid quite a bit for doing it and is it fun?
I'm sure it'd eventually get boring like everything does. But it'd be fun to do like, for a couple years, right?
Austro-Hungarian armored train during the First WW.

/k/ builds a train.

>Armored trains are one of the stupidest ideas
The idea isn't to use a train as a weapons platform per se. But trains already have to run for logistical purposes. And that makes them targets. So add defensive weapons (mainly AA) to protect them.

Would ride this one straight to hell.
