Are roadsies the most retarded people on earth or what? how come they pay upwards to 8k for a rigid bike? Its just tubes welded together and off the shelf parts

Not even endurofags are this dumb

yeah, no

For what they are, high end road bikes are indeed overpriced. Yes there is some justification with the amount of R+D and quality manufacturing that goes into making something so light that is still has usable strength and decent aerodynamics (wind tunnels and software ain't cheap and don't play much of a part when it comes to mountain bikes) but that still can't completely justify it.
>>
>>1060963
They're about as stupid as people who would pay upwards of $13,000 for a full-suspension bike.

Roadsies detected

All consumerism is cancer. And the term you want to use is Fred not roadie. Roadies are just people who ride road bikes, many which are second hand.
>>
>>1060963
Holy shit this is some putrid bait

Are all MTBs above a certain price point dual suspension? Or are there plenty of high end hardtail cross country bikes with state of the art components?
>>
>>1061076
>Are all MTBs above a certain price point dual suspension?
Well of course, there's always going to be a suspension frame more expensive than the most expensive rigid frame. Just look at the image in the post you're replying to, it's the most expensive production mountain bike and it has a suspension frame.

That doesn't mean there aren't 8k+ high end hardtails, but you can always take the parts off one and stick them on a higher value suspension frame.

>>1061076
nope and yep

BMC's are shit. Only roadies are stupid enough to buy them.
>>
>>1061076
Full suspension mtbs tend to be more expensive but there are some very high end expensive hardtails.(like $10k+) But really only cross country race bikes fall into that category. And some xc race bikes have a small amount of rear suspension. But hardtail xc race bikes are still popular as well.

It's worth it for the ability to ride up a hill as well.
>>
>>1060963
It's mostly a technical issue. (high quality) Tube welded together would be less than 500$. Making it aero, lightweight, strong, rust resistant, lowering vibrations, more comfy (and so on) as a cost.

If you want a bait, talk about wheels price, not frames.
>>
this is impressively stupid
>>
>>1061197
His point is that in comparison to suspension frames a lot of road frames are overprices. Suspension frames are much more complicated, use more material, more expensive materials, and just take more work to produce.
>>
>>1060963
tf?
my bike was $700
a pretty good price for such a smooth saddle paddle
>>
>>1061208
Suspension frames might use more material and be more complicated in terms of construction. However suspension frames aren't engineered as far when in comes to weight and aero. And especially the aero part is what makes the R&D expensive on road frames. Also all carbon frames are done by hand to molds so that part is the same on both. Laying up the carbon slightly different doesn't really matter. The price of materials is negligible when we're talking strictly frames as using slightly more carbon doesn't make the frame more expensive because in the end of the day carbon itself is relatively cheap. It's the process of engineering it into a shape that is usable that's the expensive part in a frame, or any other carbon part.

All that said most of the high end road frames are massively marked up. Manufacturers like Giant and Canyon seem to be doing just fine selling world tour frames for slightly over 2k.

And all that said I still can understand the reason some people spend 5k on a road frame. I personally can't see myself paying more than double what I paid for my Ultimate CF SLX frame for a frame. But I understand why getting a certain frame can be important for some people.

Still most the people on those +5k road frames get them because they're the type of people who buy their way into every hobby they happen to get into and get the best money can get as money isn't a problem for them and they want to get the full experience. And for them the best money can get is something prestigious and expensive. ,

> However suspension frames aren't engineered as far when in comes to weight and aero
Perhaps not aerodynamics, but weight is certainly a factor. Not all suspension frames are heavy pigs with no regard given to saving weight. Saving weight is also much more complicated because of how more complicated the frames are and the much higher and varied forces involved.

Fox 32? 100mm?

I have 140 and my bike was 10k less
>>
>>1061602
That's their highest end 32, retails for something like $900. There's no need for more travel for what the bike is designed to do and so larger stanchions are also unnecessary and would just increase weight.

You are kidding right? No one can be that dumb

I enjoy riding up the mountain. Its hard and makes the downhill feel better. That said, im road riding the entire way and probably would wuss out on the same grades on hardpack.

It's like you don't even ride a bike.

because your wife has four strokes when you tell her you spent 13 grand on a bike for your club rides.
