It's my main mtb. Ride it on rough trails, down stairs, and jump it pretty often. Haven't had a single issue since I've owned it. Just cuz it's old doesn't mean it's flimsy lmao

how much did you pay/whered you get it from?

Got it from a local bike shop for $399. They needed to make room for new inventory so it was discounted down from $500-ish, but its still brand new.

nice. but get that saddle up, slam the stem, and enjoy it!
hope it wasnt too expensive, so you can afford to upgrade when the Shimano Claris wears out.
>>

not bad. once you ride that into the ground you'll be ready for 105, which is where you'll probably want to stop unless you're gonna start racing.

Last time I'll get to post this as I've just gotten a new frame. This one's 12 years old and I've had it for nearly 3, really needs some new pivot bearings.
>>
>>1058947
And this is what it'll be replaced with, Transition Covert V2. Sizing and geometry is almost the same so it shouldn't feel too different.

Upgrades are a full length seat tube for more adjustment room with the dropper post, ISCG mount for a chain guide, tapered headtube so more fork options if I ever need to replace it (think I can also fit an angled headset if needed), should be about 2 pounds lighter, and that raw aluminium is sexy as fuck (it's also just a better looking frame in general).

Commuter/all-rounder. Work in progress, next thing is a rabbit hole wheelset. Need to get all the right parts together.

I bought the current wheelset for a different bike, but it doesn't look quite as bad on this as I thought it would.

Fenders will either need some new stays built (cheapass beach cruiser grade sheet metal currently), or replacement at some point- fitment isn't as great as the original frame I put them on. Kinda depends on how they suit the profile of the wheel/tire combo I want.

Might also rethink the plastic box, but I'm not sure how yet. I'd like something a bit lower profile, with some sort of fold-out top surface I can use to hold shit.

I know the bar ends are backwards, fite me fgt
>>
>>1059104
why the saints?
>>
>>1059106
Mostly because I've had them forever, back to when they were on a hardtail I'd use to ride down stairs and shit. I've kept them because I've gotten really heavy and still need to be able to stop when some iphone-toting retard steps out in front of me.

I'm playing with the idea of swapping them with the BB7s on my junk trail bike, but meh. the Saints may be overkill but they're still very nice in day-to-day use and surprisingly low-maintenance.
>>
>>1059107
fuck don't use the BB7s, they have the look of brakes, but they don't function as brakes.
saints are pretty ballin' brakes, and it's better for overkill on brakes than not being able to stop,
>>
>>1058979
The stickers ruin it. I don't personally like white and black but I could see some people liking it, but no one will find those stickers aesthetically pleasing. If it were me I'd have just the panda on the headtube, maybe have the made in China sticker somewhere more hidden like under the downtube or where the Rockshox one is (is that from the seatpost?).

>>1058992
Should've stuck with Geax, those Contis will fall apart. Looks like a comfy little dirt path cruiser

>>1059091
I'm going to assume (and hope) that this photo is from when you first got it and you have since removed the reflectors. Very nice bike

>>1059107
>I'm playing with the idea of swapping them with the BB7s
No, that would be a terrible idea.

How wide are those bars? They look pretty damn wide, too wide for those bar ends to be comfortable unless you have very wide shoulders.
>>
>>1059112
>assume (and hope)
Google picture my camera sux
>>
>>1059112
i'm keeping the geax's for dry weather and on the turbo, but so far these conti's have done pretty well even though they've only got like 10kms on them, but £12 a tyre ain't so bad if they fall apart.
>>
>>1059104
Your barends are the wrong way around m8
>>
>>1059109
I've found that BB7s are the only mechanical discs that aren't shit... but they're weak without larger rotors. I was commuting on the aforementioned trail bike for 2 or 3 months and managed to not die. They're definitely fiddly compared to the Saints, though.

I originally bought the Saints to replace a set of Codes (2010-ish)... now THOSE are some worthless fucking brakes. Constant need of bleeding, ended up rebuilding both levers on separate occasions because the brake fluid swelled a teflon washer inside the master cylinder and caused the lever to jam. Went through a quart bottle of DOT5.1 before I gave up on them.

Not as clear in the photo, but I also got some Saint pedals. Would recommend, especially for the price.
>>
>>1059118
>I've found that BB7s
But BB7s are shit. Try to catch up, the last 10 years happened when you weren't looking
>>
>>1059115
There are plenty of tyres around that price that aren't shit, my Rapid Robs were only £13 each. I've had X-Kings and Rubber Queens and they both cracked really badly and even had the logos peel away (it's on a separate sheet of rubber that's glued on), my buddy's Queens also cracked. It's a shame as they look nice, are cheap, and the performance ain't too shabby.
>>
>>1059112
>How wide are those bars? They look pretty damn wide, too wide for those bar ends to be comfortable unless you have very wide shoulders.
Wide as fuck, like 30". I do have wide shoulders, and my riding position is very upright and relaxed, even using the bar ends (hence the weird angle).

You're right though, if I wanted to use the bar ends "properly" I might be better off sticking them inboard of the main grips... or just going full derp and fitting some aero bars.
>>
>>1059074
those bars look MASSIVE, why are those drops so deep/big ?
>>
picture is from last September when i bought it, nothing fancy but its fun and its mine.
>>
>>1059121
Just so we're clear, do you mean that there are now cable-actuated discs that are superior to BB7s, or that all mechanical discs are now considered obsolete/BSO gear?
>>
>>1059130
and this picture is from last Saturday on a 30mile ride.

upgrades that i want to do are as follows in this order:

new crankset (left crank arm is rounding and the teeth on the right are a bit shoddy)

lock on grips (still using the stock ones and they slide around with no bar-ends)

wider pedals for my large feet (probably some v12's)

better off road tires (these are good for road and slight dirt but on trips to Sherwood forest i have a lot of problems with grip on the hard trails)
>>
>>1059131
There are dual piston full cable calipers as well as cable actuated hydraulic calipers. Unless you're running drop bars or some other niche scenario that means cable brakes are a lot cheaper/the only option you should be running full hydros anyway.
>>
>>1059130
>>1059133
>those file sizes
Come on, man.
>>
>>1059122
CRC did have a bunch of geax's but all the 2.2+ widths had gone, and almost bought some hutchinsons from decathlon, but forgot about them,

next set i want to try are onza canis's or may give ardents a run.

>>1059131
TRP spyre's and HY/RDs are current the best cable disc brakes.

have had this bike since Jan '16 and have done about 3000kms on it. Paid $1300 AUD for it from a guy on gumtree. absolutely love it (was a steal considering it had Spinergy Stealth PBOs that retail for $1k)but now I kinda want to get into doing gravel biking, looking to save up about $5000 and buy a touring gravel bike and ride from Melbourne to Canberra across Alpine National park/Snowy mountains over the space of about 10-14 days. Any recommendations for good gravel/touring bikes. Currently looking at the Specialized AWOL.

Ewwww. Neat background though - how do Belgians feel about their constitutional monarchy generally? Are there strong feelings about the heads of state? (other than Leo II, who presumably is being tormented in hell by having his hands held under a stream of boiling rubber for all eternity)

>>1059898
Looks like a solid beater, just needs a cargo rack imho
>>
>>1058886
i want your bike how much is it worth?
>>
>>1059906

I wanted to put on a rear rack, but due to the frame design I can't- the holes are there, but they're too close to where the frame is still wide, and due to the angle you can't actually bolt the rack to it which is slightly frustrating... The brakes are also a nightmare to get working properly, and I'm thinking of converting to a 1x as it's all flat, as well as putting on a slick tyre on the rear as the current one is ancient but none of that is really worth it really. I want to get a slightly nicer commuter, but I can't really afford it and this still gets me from A to B
>>

People come in all shapes and sizes, some people are federalists whereas others take more separatist views (especially in Flanders, where the leading political party has separatist ideas).
Personally I like the monarchy, our king has no real power and isn't really involved in running the country, but he's got a kind of ambassadorial role of representing Belgium in the world. Of which I think he's doing a very good job, personally.

Aside from that, King Albert I (in whose honour the statue in pic is) was a total badass and definitely a King for everyone. Very unpretentious, regular king and family who was in touch with the plebs (previously unseen). Refused the Germans passage through Belgium to France in WWI even though our armies were greatly outnumbered. He also took personal command of the armies, and sent his son (the crown prince) to the frontlines.
>"During his time on the front, rumors spread on both sides of the lines that the German soldiers never fired upon him out of respect for him being the highest ranked commander in harm's way, while others feared risking punishment by the Kaiser himself, who was his cousin. The king also allowed his 14-year-old son, Prince Leopold, to enlist in the Belgian army as a private and fight in the ranks."

He ended up dying in a mountaneering accident when he was out climbing all on his own, as he loved mountain climbing. Very cool King, and the locations from the Western Front are filled to the brim with monuments in his honour.
I do need to replace my bar tape. It's the stock that I've had for about a year now, at least it can't get any dirtier. I'm planning to replace it with black tape anyway

For some reason the color reminds me of somebody I haven't seen post here in a long time, he had a (repainted?) blue-green Schwinn with a very similar setup. Anybody else remember who I'm thinking of?

Mostly done, just waiting on some longer brake hoses and new shifter and dropper cables. Currently 14.7kg or 32.4 pounds and should be right around the 15kg/33 pound mark once the shifter is on. It was about 16kg with the old frame so I'm happy with the result.

My Conti GPs were becoming 2spooky4me with the amount of cracks on the thread and the sidewall threads showing. They're probably still safe but... I don't really like them. Grip is poor.

Put on a Corsa from 2015 and an Ultremo from 2013 back in there and bam, ride quality is stellar again.

Thank you pham.

It's the Rose Pro RS — IIRC it was discontinued in late 2013 when Ultegra 6800 came around. Rose moved on to the "endurance" market with most of the entry level stuff much like Canyon did. The Canyon Roadlite was a ~1000€ road bike with similar geometry to mine back in the day.

The gotta-go-fast market apparently isn't the largest. If we wanted to buy this bike again today we'd probably need to look elsewhere or spend some 500€ more.

you should always have lights, even during the day
wear bright colored or reflective clothing if possible too
>>
>>1061604
Lights just make you more visible to others, you still have to rely on them not hitting you
Whereas with a helmet, then even if they do hit you, you have protection, and with good riding skills you can avoid being hit even without lights
But yeah lights and bright clothes are important too. I always ride with lights at night, and a rear light even during the day. Bright clothes when on fast roads, especially in rural areas.

>Those are stock stainless steel bolts on that SKS fender.

this is why we use hyphens, people.
"bolt-on" is a hyphenated word; "bolt" by itself is a noun, and "on" is a preposition, which is how the other guy read it, and so did I at first. "Bolt-on" is an adjective that would indicate the overall design of the entire fender.

Further adding to the confusion, that is _not_ a bolt-on fender in the first place. A standard, normal type of fender is held on by bolts. The fender in question is held on by a quick-release thing. That orange webbing on the seat post is what holds it on. You can adjust the circumference of the strap through the buckle part, and the buckle nests into the plastic and locks in place with just leverage. The bolts pictured only adjust the angle of the armature and fender.

I'm by far not a native english speaker, yet I very much doubt >>1061774 meant a bolt-on fender, because it's clearly attached like you said and not bolted onto anything. Now to think of it, the fender itself is indeed more fugly than the poor bolt(s). So go figure.

There's nothing in particular about the bike that would hint at it costing more than $1k. The drivetrain is old 9 speed, the wheels aren't anything special (something like $80 a rim), it's not dripping in Paul's components, etc. Perhaps the only things that could be considered expensive would be the Chris King headset and the rear rack looks a quality and probably costly item.

At the very most, I've probably spent around $1000 on the bike in the five years since I purchased the frameset. I got the frame on closeout, and built it up with used parts from the local bike co-op. Almost all the parts on it now were either from friends, bike co-ops, or closeout deals. Not including consumables (tires, chains, housing, etc) all of the parts are used, except the wheels, the rack, and the pedals. I built new wheels because the XT=>CR18 wheelset I had was getting too ratty and I wanted a dynamo in the front and sealed bearings in the rear.

I don't want them to keep collecting rust outside and don't have a large house to put them inside. Lmk guys

About 3 months ago I got this bike for transportation around my town. A lot of hills here. It's been about 5 years since I owned one before this so I thought it was time again.

Was only around $125 when I got it and it hasn't failed me yet.

My '87 Schwinn Traveler. Got it from my late grandpa. I put an old tire from my shitty '79 Traveler on the front since the original one was dry rotted. I did order a CST gumwall from Amazon that matches the back. I left the Le Tour for someone else to take, since the tires and rims were both pretty bad. I might get fenders for it too since it has been raining a lot. This is my first quality road bike (I have a GMC Denali and some decent mountain bikes). IDK if I like riding road bikes that much but I'll try to make it my commuter since it is a pretty nice bike.

Dynacraft is a toy brand (they make NEXT and Magna bikes), but that doesn't look too bad. You could always get a cheap pair of slicks for it for some extra speed if you're not into off-roading.

Not very well, it's collecting dust in the basement. Front derailleur is badly out of adjustment and difficult to fix. I think the back wheel may be out of true. Even for a Wal-Mart road bike, it sucks because they have cheaper ones with stem shifters now.

I am enjoying it so far. The bike seems brand new, no squeaking or other noises, all the rubber is still rubber too. No play in any of the bearings, very small amount of grime in hard to reach places. The only upgrade so far was a replacement for that gear change and another set of tires

Cheers fella. I sometimes wish that my phone had a better camera or that I could be bothered to take my decent camera with me, one day.

26" front and rear, the rear wheel is just closer combined with some bad barrel distortion on my phone's camera. Here's a worse version I took with the wheel even closer to the edge of the frame which made it oval.

It doesn't matter because that's the error/recall 09 FTP that they blew out on ultra clearance for under $100 in 2010.

Nice. Those old BMXs are the best.

Definitely plan to clean her up. The paint is kinda rough, so she probably needs repainting. Also the fork is slightly bent backward due to an accident. The front rim is actually from a small mountain bike and is no longer straight. The rear rim is original and in good shape so ideally I want to match that.

Apart from that it's just a matter of rust removal and general cleaning.

Pro: Belt drive; double kickstand; very low-maintenance; modular
Con: Automatic two-position gear works based off of how fast you're pedaling, which is fine most of the time but becomes a real bitch when dealing with steep hills; you have to build it yourself; it's 33 pounds of aluminum, which is kind of heavy.

its the OE stem, what would you suggest for new stem and forks??

Options are very limited when it comes to forks, is that true?

(pic - day I got it from goodwill for $32)
>>
>>1063070
If you like the stem stick with it, it's just that it is long and high rise giving a casual fit. But you can always lower the stem to make up for that, easy to do given that it's the old quill style.
I'm the one that said it's a shit stem but really, if you like how the bike rides, keep it as is. But for the love of Sheldon, fix the fucking position of those levers.

Idk why you'd do that. If you want to ride really technical terrain, get a modern mountain bike (reasonable priced used bikes on pinkbike.com/buysell)
And if you're not riding techy stuff, rigid is better
>>
>>1063114
No those bars are definitely backwards. If you tilt them forwards how they're supposed to be (so they rise upwards at the bend) then they'll sweep forwards at the grips, they're supposed to sweep backwards.

no "probably" about it. that saddle will be a lot nearer the level of the handlebar when you set it up right. left is correct height with proper foot position on pedal. right is showing how the proper height looks with heel on the pedal, it gives you a straight knee. use that as a gauge, but don't ride that way.

Those Ikea bikes seem cool. a little pricey, a little heavy, but cool.
