hello /n/tards, what you all thing of the "Capsule Metro"
It is a indigenously made transit system by some students from the Tech University in Bandung
Picture shown is the test track

So Rubber-tyred metro / AGT?
Just make a guideway bus / BRT.
Yeah, the main problem is how to make it better than a vanilla BRT line รก la Curitiba.
Guideways are awkward and are worth it if you use vehicles much bigger than buses. So if you plan to use capsule-size vehicles, just use a slightly modified bus.
Save the guideway for when you build a train.
Even a bus is better in every aspect. A total waste of money.

More of a "people mover" type of thing but they like to claim it's cheaper to build than a LRT system which it going on right now in Jakarta and Palembang
About the BRT thing, most cities tried building it but they never feature bus lanes and other essential BRT stuff (Except Jakarta,Where i live btw),so the only "BRT" element is the high doors and the tall bus stops that are very small and obstructive to the sidewalk

They're gonna build a 6-station line in Bandung using the "new" technology aforementioned
This novelty has become some sort of chauvinistic national pride back here

how is an expensive and complex concrete track system with rubber tires in any way better than standard steel wheels on steel tracks? What's the obsession with building guided vehicles without standard steel tracks? ffs steel wheels on steel tracks is literally one of the greatest inventions ever

Rubber tires have better traction and a rubber tired train can take on pretty steep grades. It's also relatively more silent compared to standard trains.
That's about it.

Well some news outlets here call it LRT

idk ,most big cities here have very chaotic urban planning as suburb development is very Highway/Car-Centric in the 80's and 90's (And still is now untill recently)
My city built an unguided elevated busway without facilities for the disabled (Only metal stairs) and without transfer facilities so i don't expect it to be good
And most cities got BRT wrong by seeing it as an "Advanced" bus service with high doors only without the lanes
Land aquisition is also a problem here along with rioting minivan drivers and the spread of Online based transport like UBER
Paint a bus lane on the road. Buy a bus. It's cheaper, faster, less obtrusive and it looks better. Or do it right and build some fucking rail.

Typical Indonesian "BRT" example without the lanes
The Transport Ministry here gave away these buses for cities to improve their public transport
Even if the city dosen't have high-floor bus stops...

which part of such system provide cost advantage over LRT/etc.? I have taken a look on videos about the Guangzhou APM and can't find anything special about them

sooo.. pic related?

Love that old comfy pic desu.

Not familiar with the system but as they are fared in station instead of bus itself, it could prevent norml passenger from boarding the bus at regular station which don't have faring capability?
