why are airbus planes so ugly?

You could argue they're run-of-the-mill, the bare minimum of design, and generally uninspired/soulless, especially when it comes to the A320 family. To be fair though, the 737 family has been going down this path ever since the -800.

However, I will have to disagree with you regarding the A330, A340, and A350. They are amazingly beautiful. Hell, even the A300 and A310 are great.

I disagree on the A330, I think it looks to utilitarian, but not really so in a good way. It looks a lot better than an A320, but I think the 777 has the "beautiful workhorse" look down so well that the 330 can't beat it there either.

The A340 on the other hand looks absolutely stunning.

Prettiest plane

The single-deck AB widebody designs are perfectly cromulent.
A380 looks like it has a giant tumor above the middle deck. A320-series is perfectly nice to fly in, but looks like nothing at all. In my bizarro-world fantasies, the VC10 would have been re-engineered into AB's narrowbody

Most planes look so similar that it's really hard to compare them in looks, they're all pretty much bland white cylinders with wings.
