The industry will soon push 28mm to replace 25mm just as it pushed 25mm to replace 23mm, mark my fucking words.
>b-but my bike came with 23mm, and I swapped to 25mm when you told me 25mm is fastest, now you say I need 28mm? oy vey, I don't have enough clearance, so now I need to buy a whole new bike, because these narrow tires just aren't fast enough! Here's my 6 million shekels rabbi, now give me that fast shiny new 28mm bike! Oh what's what? I need a fat bike too, cause 5" is just as fast as 25mm? Okay here's more shekels, I'll take a fatbike too! And I'll win all those cat 6s against roadies on this new fat bike!
>>1046042
It's indisputable that 28mm tires are faster than 25's, though.
>>1046042
And then, next step is to push back to 23mm because of groundbreaking new memetunnel research that shows that in fact 23mm is fastest
>b-but if I put 23mm tires on this bicycle designed for 28mm, I'll have too much gap between my tires and my stays/forklegs, and I'll look like the fred that I am! We can't have people knowing I'm a fred so I guess I'll have to go buy a new bike made specifically for 23mm tires! Here's more shekels rabbi, thank you for this enlightening information on which tires are fastest!
>>1046044
industry shill pls go
>>1046042
good, I already run 28mm.
I know what you mean, and I know that industries like to push things for profits, but if you look at the recent evolution of TT bikes it is quite clear that real aero science came into bike design only recently.
And if the pro peloton start using 28mm, you can say that 28mm is indeed beneficial. They take any small advantage they can I would assume.
I don't give a shit what is fastest, I'm not racing. I just don't want to get beat to death by the shitty roads around here so 28s it is.
>>1046042
>not having a frame which can accommodate all tyre sizes
i live near B-roads so anything less than 35mm is the same as a steel tyre.
I have 28mm tires. It doesnt look right when I look down at my wheel, but it doesnt feel any slower. Certainly comfier though. And you can really push tje cornering. I think im gonna keep 25mm on my other bike tho.
I have 28mm on my fastest bike and I would not run anything smaller on any bike. Maybe an indoor track bike, but I don't have any use for that.
28s are where it's at, but 25s and 32s are both similar to ride.
>>1046042
>allowing yourself to get pushed around by trends
>reacting to 3mm changes in tire width like its some huge deal
Technology changes. Get over it. This only matters if you're a racer (in which you should be used to changing gear chasing after tiny advantages) or if you're a fashionista (in which case fuck off)
Also lol the narrowest tires I own are 35mm.
somehow i though I was on /p/ and i was going to say that not only that picture is absolute shit but it also doesn't look either 28, 25 or 23mm
also i run 35c's kek
>>1046119
I thought this too at first
"What the fuck you stupid shit, 28mm is already the UNIVERSAL standard in nearly all personal devices, home security, point & shoots, fixed lens compacts.."
>>1046042
>The industry will soon push 28mm to replace 25mm just as it pushed 25mm to replace 23mm, mark my fucking words.
and then 32, and the back to 23mm again
>>1046059
They just ride whatever they are paid to, they would ride a 90's rigid for the right price!
28mm too wide, 25mm is perfect
>He fell for the skinny tire meme
/n/ is full of fags
>>1046042
You think that's bad? Come to the MTB world where there's a new wheel size, axle size and drivetrain standard every 6 months.
>>1046044
Nope. At roadie speeds, the drag/weight penalty outweighs the efficiency. Yes, I know the drag and stuff is minuscule and a fraction of a watt. So is the power savings going from 25mm to 28mm.
>>1046148
The metric shock thing and boost were just too blatant, there's going to be a push to stop doing this stupid shit at some point.
>>1046148
Hey yall, come back to beach cruiser land. We've been on 26" forever.
This one has sick barends and Brooks saddle
Anyone who isn't going through at least one set of tires per season won't ever care.
Anyone who is won't ever care.
So what's the problem?
>>1046165
>>1046042
Reminder that fatter tyres offer less rolling resistance (up until a point)
They also offer a much more comfortable ride.
>>1046187
I don't know that those schwalbes are a particularly good example, since the guy said in the tests a couple of them had noticeably different construction.
I'd be really interested to see how compass fares along the line, but that would be the most expensive RR test in the world.
as far as I know you can still buy 23 mm tires no problem
anyway you guys all got Gatorskin tires, so losing another 5 Watts shouldn't be a problem
>tfw all of my LBS' sell nothing but 23mm tires
Buying overseas shit on the internet is such a pain in the ass
>>1046230
23mm is fine. I still ride it preferentially.
Ignore memes and ride your fucking bike.
>>1046242
I don't care about memes. I care about tires too hard and narrow on shit tier third world roads.
>>1046148
400$ for Eagle cassette
I hate 1x with a passion
I have been riding 28 mm on road and 29ers off roads for like 15 years. Stay mad.
>>1046148
>filename
Made me chuckle.
>>1046148
1x11 and 1x12 are the biggest memes, even worse than 27,5 and plus sizes
Weight savings are nonexistant, you're crosschaining 80% of the time and you loose about 1/3 of your gear range.
If you own a 27,5+ bike with boost, "shapeshifter" and 1x11 you're the best goy
>>1046150
Except they're actually better
>>1046293
Do you still use rope wrapped around rims?
>Rubber tyre meme
>>1046259
I went 1x for $40: $20 for 16 + 42 cogs and $20 for a narrow wide 32t. My cassette is now larger than my brake rotor.
>>1046167
>Brooks
gets me erryteim.
>>1046167
>Brooks on a cruiser
>not sprung
Pleb.
>>1046293
1x isn't a meme. The simplicity is nice. You shouldn't be cross-chaining if you have the right gear range. You don't need gearing for 60km/h when you rarely go above 35km/h on the trails. Run the appropriate sized chain ring so you're mainly using the middle of the cassette.
>>1046353
The Sunrace 10spd 11-42 cassettes are ~$60 and shift a lot better.
>>1046443
>>The Sunrace 10spd 11-42 cassettes are ~$60 and shift a lot better.
Are you saying that SRAM's flagship mtb shit doesn't shift well?
>>1046042
Don't forget you also need new rims that are wide enough for aero gains.

>>1046457
The Sunrace cassettes shift better than a add on 42t sprocket and a 16 tooth replacement. Neither is going to shift as well as a $1500 flagship drivetrain.
>>1046463
Ah ok.
>>1046042
I just went from 25 to 28 mm, just looking that picture.
>>1046461
interesting read, thanks m8.
>>1046122
This guy gets it
>>1046878
You sound mad as fuck.
>>1046892
How the fuck does he sound mad you fucking downtube? He's right on both counts
>>1046897
You sound mad as fuck
>>1046897
down tube is a bicycle part, not a pejorative.
>>1047105
not sure if i want to call newfag or support the meme.
Same with disc brakes on road bikes- I can bet that the vast majority of pro roadies do not want them, but it's not like they have a choice, they are bike manufacturer's best advertisers.
>>1047113
How about neither
>>1046878
>anti-Brooks memer
Leave.
No one tire is the fastest. It's proportional to your weight. you want a certain amount of rim drop when you sit on the bike, meaning if you weigh 200 lbs you'll have to put your 23s up to 115psi and youll feel every spec of dust on the road. Like wise, if your a tiny person at say 110 lbs, you'll be fine on 23's
>>1047293
>>1046165
>>1046167
>tfw want to stick a Brooks saddle on my badge-engineered Raleigh Sports
>mfw it would cost almost as much as the bike did
I know one has to pay for quality, but still.
>>1047105
It's both you fucking downtuber
>>1047293
Brooks is shit.
