Sorry. Most definitely leeward, most probably west
If you xan build an airport with 200m runway on a tiny island with certain amount of population, would it be better to simply use helicopters instead?
>>1043902
Are you referring to OP's pic? Because the answer is "it depends".
>>1043904
Was thinking about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuqiu%2C_Kinmen
>>1043906
You wouldn't have a choice in that case. If you wanted air access, it'd have to be by helicopter.
>>1043907
That's the current situation but I am just wondering if it is possible to craft a STOL field on the tiny island to connect with Taiwan main island
>>1043908
Anything is possible. It's possible to build a second, purpose-built artificial island next to that one and land jumbo jets on it. You can bombard it flat from a gunship and the build a strip. You can nuke it into a crescent atoll and land seaplanes in the lagoon. WWII guys had perforated steel plate they could lay out on a long stretch of beech to land on.
'Possible' covers a very wide range of mostly impractical possibilities.

I stayed on that right island next to the airport for one night on our early flight next morning. Very nice place actually except for all the trash and the burning plastic.

One of the most efficient airports in my opinion, also my favourite. Everything is so easy to find, the only improvment it could use is shuttle transport between far terminals.

Well, yeah.

hate the 20min taxis though

no you need them. at congested airports you need ultra precision to be rated to do simultaneous approaches on same runways, if not you need to separates your traffic vertically and horizontally which gets dicy during push times. Also, having a runway in a random direction is nice to use as a cross wind runway, but if that runway is placed poorly relative to other runways youll get lots of near misses and conflicts in departure.

This has always interested me, that a literal road has to be blocked off for planes to take off and land. There is talk of building the road underneath the runway to ease traffic flow.
too bad kai tak closed down..

>Busiest single runway airport in the world

Yeah it needed to be changed

I thought they were building a tunnel underneath it.
cmon guise keep em cummin
Heathrow's holding stacks always amaze me. It's one of the most efficient airports in the world running at almost 100% capacity.

Height restriction to development is real. Needs to be closed down as an international airport. The bad point is now the runway is a strip of empty land and open space with insufficient anchor development in the future. The cruise terminal is worrying. A municipal/GA airport and heliport with reduced scope for light aircraft at the end of the runway next to the cruise terminal could have worked in companion with a n aviation/transport museum, still providing light aircraft tours roughly along old flight paths and relieving Shek Kong and HK International of civil demands.

I think this is where I landed in Panama for the San Blas Is. Plane had locals with live animals on the plane. Bonkers. The stop before that one the pilots had to land on a strip in the trees, I though we were crashing but then at the last minute there was a part and they landed it.

Too phallic.
SAV has graves under the runway.

That's so cool!
Leger (Private) Airport. Just south of Midway Airport and vicintiy. Just South of Metroplex, Dallas Texas.
Midway Regional. (KJWY). Just south of Metroplex Dallas fort worth area. I was on base leg. Taken sometime 2016.
Another private airstrip about 5 minutes south of Midway (KJWY). These are hard to spot from the air. Fun to photograph. It is one of 3 private Airfields. Look up www.vfrmap.com and type in KJWY in searh bar. Will zoom you there.
Same private Airstrip as image 6401 above post. Just from the other side. I'm flying the plane so I have to pay attention. Take many shots of same as some are not in focus. I genarlly flay about 2000 feet AGL.
Midway Regional. Always something to take a shot of. KJWY
