What it that bridge looking thing towards the bow of the ship? Is is a ramp for loading ro-ro cargo?
>>1038449

Cargo unloading boom. Uses conveyors to unload the cargo instead of cranes or other shore side unloading rigs
>>1038476
>Honestly how do you let a freshwater lake freighter get that bad?
The worn sides are mostly from rubbing up against the lock walls in the Soo locks, and due to the restricted shipping season the companies let vessel maintenance take a back seat to cargo ops. On the lakes it's rare for you to go more than a day or so before making your next dock.

A few months ago I found this dank t-shirt in a thrift shop, "Great Lakes Freighters", with just a bunch of drawings of ships laid out, ala a "blackstock's collections" image.
Unfortunately it was YM size ;_;

Fuck yeah. It's the best part of living in a great lakes city. That and the siberian winters

>Being this fucking ignorant
You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Waves out on Lake Erie can easily exceed 25 ft, especially during "the gales of November" Just google "The Edmund Fitzgerald"

While that may be the case if you look closely at your images you can tell that those chops are not even 10feet tall.
The angle and distance of the shop coupled with the size of the droplets being wicked away by the wind tell me that your first image is an 8 foot chop and the other two barely cut 6 feet. If even 6.

People keep underestimating the Great Lakes and they keep getting fucked.
Sinking freighters, dismasting sailboats, boats capsizing...
get gud and respect the lakes or you'll die.
