Why is it called a "semi" truck anyhow?

wet farts: the thread

Semi truck is just 'semi-trailer truck' shortened. A semi-trailer is a trailer with no front axles; so most trailers today. A full trailer has 1 or more front axles, which is not the same as a semi-trailer with a dolly; though they look very similar to the untrained eye.

This would be a good starting point for AI controlled trucks, once driver safety is no longer an issue and road space utilization is more important.

I saw a model of this thirty years ago in Polk's Hobby in New York. The bitch cost $50 which was outrageous for a die cast model.

In German Nutzfahrzeuge are alle vehicles that are used for a different purpose than individual transport.
Nutz- comes from nutzen which means using.
