>I can't even drive to LA to Las Vegas for 5 hours without needing 2 long breaks. How did you even manage to do that every day?
It was 2.5 hours each way, would feel like a break after 2 hours but close enough to work/home at that point to just push through... I don't think I would ever do it again, but when I was starting out on my own I didn't have enough money to rent a place close to work, I looked at sharing with housemates but never found a place that would take me, eventually met a girl who had a place closer to work (45 minutes by bicycle ) and moved in with her

>>
>>1029256
>I can't even drive to LA to Las Vegas for 5 hours without needing 2 long breaks
Christ, the pussies on this board. I've done multiple road trips involving 3-5 days of +12-hour-a-day driving, with only stops for fuel. My old Camry could do close to 500 miles on a tank at ~75mph, so if I fueled up in the morning, I'd usually only stop *once*.

It's not all that different than spending all day in the saddle on a bike ride, really. Plan ahead, get comfortable, get in the zone. It's a matter of mental fortitude and willpower.

On the other hand:
>>1029250
>I used to commute 5 hours a day by car, god it is soul crushing, got through a ton of audiobooks that way
Fuuuuck that sounds terrible. My pain threshold for a commute is around 1 hour each way, or less with traffic (I can not STAND sitting in traffic jams). 2.5 hours each way sounds absolutely miserable.

>3-digit interstates are state-specific, usually spur routes, city bypasses or 'rings'. There are technically three '405's, but only one that has national recognition.

Well if you're from the northwest the only 405 that comes to mind is the one outside Seattle. There isn't a single 405 with 'national recognition'.
>>
>>1030621
There's also the 405 in Portland, which we shut down one morning a year so that people can ride their bicycles on it. That's a lot of fun.

Portland should close the I-5 between I-205 and 217 junction and turn them into a boulevard with (light-)rail line along it.
>>
>>1030635
Or complete the 205 loop (it was originally planned to loop up to Hillsboro) close I-5 between 217 and north Vancouver, scuttle the interstate bridge, and reclaim the whole stretch for train/bike/residential.

i had a job in LA and stayed at a hotel some XX miles away. everyday around 9am (supposedly after rush hour) i would start driving the hour and a half towards worksite. i did about 3 hours of traffic there everyday. then one day i was dicking off on my bmx bike and in about an hour of wandering i had ended up at my work site. if i had head there on a roadbike with direction in mind, i could have easily commuted it in like half an hour, i think i looked it up and it was only like 8miles or something.

Because then there would be traffic in the sky. You'd have to wait 1hr to get permission to depart and then probably will be exposed to more dangers while enroute because aviation safety laws are built around the "big sky" concept where collision of two planes is unlikely. Once the big sky theory isn't valid anymore, aviation becomes extremely dangerous

Hey man, the future is going to suck. There's gonna be an explosive expansion of the human population mass, severe poverty, restrictions on human rights by our governments, horrible crime. The best thing we can do to prevent it from happening is, to make sure there won't be a future!
>>
>>1029616
>>1029623
Your only choices are a jammed freeway or a slow speed limit residential road meant for local traffic only and going in a square grid rather than a pathway route. No main streets allowing 50 to 70 km/h travel in the city. If they call something a "main street", its still just a square grid street that leads nowhere and has you stop at traffic lights every 15 meters. American traffic planning is so minimal and pre-communist whereas Australia, Europe and Russia have developed past these times to the modern age in traffic solutions.
