Tell me why I should get a Vaya.

Whyte hardtails are very good. I don't know if they sell them in Germany yet but they're extremely high quality.

They make fun bikes at decent value and I like the decal
Still would get a Jamis or Kona equivalent over a Salsa since they're cheaper

try canyon, rose bikes, radon, orbea, NS bikes, dartmoor or if you don't might ordering from the UK, bird, cotic, ragley,
>>
I want a Colnago. I've always wanted Colnago, since the day I started riding a bike I always wanted a Colnago. I've had Look, Specialized, Raleigh, De Rosa, Panasonic. Now I want the bike.

Am I being stupid for paying a few thousand pounds more than its equivalents for a name? I love the styling, the colour, the fact that I can (and will) be flying out to the factory to get sized for it and it's made from bits of Ferraris and so on but ultimately it's a £10k bike for an average rider with no real performance or ride advantage over the competition.

It's not really the money. I just like it for purely aesthetic and gut feelings. I've done the same with cars before, it's a bit of a letdown.
>>
>>1029153
sounds expensive desu, but you spend your money how you see fit
>>
>>1029153
If you can afford it, why not. At least to get it out of your system.
>>
>>1029153
it's better to spend £10k on a bike you'll use for your life, than pay £2-3k every few years for a bike you don't really like.
>>
>>1029152
cotic bikes seem to be steel frames only
whats best for a hardtail? opinions?
I think steel would be better just for durability
>>
>>1029162
steel is usually prefered as it gives a more compliant ride, which helps to cushion out the bumps, as it's not as stiff as an aluminium frame, but it's also not as brittle as aluminium and is easier to repair if you were to have cracks, but it's down to the rider to what they prefer, as aluminium is just as good as steel, also aluminium is a fair bit cheaper too.

>There's not many 26 inch components around.

I mean, there's only OVER 30 YEARS of used MTB components out there. That's nothing at all! Might as well give up and throw away your 26" wheeled MTB at this point because you can't find parts for it anymore.

Fuck, what's even 26" specific other than the wheels? The fork? What else?
>>
>>1029197
the entire rear triangle of the frame, for instance.
>>
>>1029153
The V1-r? Hey if you can afford your dreams without getting into crushing debt, fucking do it. And you'll probably be faster on it unless you're already riding something like a NK1K, Venge ViAS, or Specialissima.
>>
>>1029316
is the rear triangle a consumable on mountain bikes now
>>
Tell me if this is a fair price:

If it is, please don't buy it. Lemme have it!!1!
>>
>>1029329
I would not pay $600 for that. Maybe $450, and I live in a city where bike prices are horribly inflated. But I'd never buy a bike without test riding, unless it were custom.
>>
>>1029329
It's better than what you'd get for that price new, but the ability to test ride and haggle a s/hand bike is pretty important. If a bike can't ride no hands, the wheels don't sit and spin straight in the frame or it has hairline cracks then it's been crashed and it's not desirable at all. Hard to tell this from photos, although it looks ok.

Specifically on that bike, i'd want to know if the triple shifts well. Old STI levers get fucky and if the front doesn't shift well, it's a project worth naught $200, as opposed to a bike with a nice complete group. Spraying the shit out the levers with WD40 can do some good though.

I like a closeish cassette and a triple, it's the compact double and 11-28 of yesteryear, the gearing most serious roadies in the 90s who climbed rode. There is more weight and complexity, but the shift pattern and gear overlap is nice imo. 9 speed parts are cheap and readily available.

Factor in $60 for new tires, and $20 for a new chain. Maybe offer 5 if you really like it.
>>
>>1029344
Yeah if I were to get a bike with an old triple it had better be friction shift or Campy.

A LBS near me has a like-new '05 Bianchi Veloce made from 631, with full Campy Veloce 10x3 (pre-QS) and Vento wheels, with a Butterfly Ti saddle, for $650. I'm seriously considering getting it, even though I really don't need yet another steel roadie and it's probably a little small for me and I'm supposed to be saving for an Infinito CV

sup /n/

I'm a uni student in the UK, and have ~£1000 budget to spend on a new bike. I ride a fair amount (rode a couple of thousand kilometres across Europe this summer, and commute around London every day) but actually don't know a lot about buying bikes- I daily a beat up 90s MTB and went across Europe on one of my dad's bikes (alu frame, carbon forks)

However, I'm looking for a road bike, probably full carbon, if this is beneficial over alu/carbon mix.

Height: 6'2
Riding- Roads (dur) around England mainly, mix of hills, crap roads, flats etc
Budget- ~£1000

Do I want disc brakes/is that in my budget?
Should I go carbon or aluminium?
Should I save some money and upgrade wheels?
>>
>>1030149
for £1k to get carbon you'd have really crap components, so it's worth going aluminium with better components, like there's this for £900 which'll give you £100 for a new saddle and/or pedals
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBPXLDNRIVHRD/planet-x-london-road-sram-rival-11-hydraulic-disc-road-bike
>>
>>1029924
keep that fork, and get a shorter stem, as 30mm will fuck the geometry of your bike, and probably rip the head tube off.
>>
>>1030149
also any of these are good bikes for your budget
https://www.evanscycles.com/kmlp/pinnacle-arkose
>>
>>1029924
A longer fork will actually shorten the reach of the bike (which is what matters when you're standing up) so it would be counterproductive

See if your bike will take a reach-adjustment headset, if not sell the bike and buy something longer
>>
>>1030164
>>1030166

Thanks, I'll look at a good alu/carbon mix with something like Tiagra/105- I can always do things like upgrading the wheelset at a later date. Are disc brakes worth it of rims? I've only ever used discs on mtbs
>>
>>1030173
in wet and cold weather they are worth it, and it's nice to know that you won't need to replace a rim after a few thousand miles.
>>
>>1030174

How does it work re changing wheels? Do only specific wheels work with them, and how standardised is it?
>>
>>1030175
as long as it's a disc hub with 100x10mm will fit in the front and 135x10mm in the rear, and it'll be 700c/29er rim diameter, disc road wheel sets have been around for a few years so they are pretty easy to find
>>
What reason is there for me to get a cyclocross bike over just throwing some drop bars on one of my rigid frames?
I'm in love with the paint jobs on these Fuji's but I don't see anything that makes it really seem all that different aside from a bit lighter and disk brakes.

no seriously, I have a <1k euro bike and it has lasted for over a decade so far. incorporating repair costs lets say another 600 euros or so.

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU PAY SEVERAL THOUSAND POUNDS EVERY FEW YEARS. WHATS WRONG WITH YOU.

also I would like to point out that if you get a very expensive bike, you better not be an idiot that leaves it out in public to be stolen. because even u locks can be cut through in seconds, and there are professional thieves out there

Verenti Substance (wiggle.co.uk) or Genesis CdA10 (Evans) if you can stretch the budget by a röding.
>>
>>1031361
What makes the CdA10 with its mixed groupset components better than the Substance?
>>
>>1029316
Wrong, it's 26+, which will clear a 27.5x2.4 no problem. Can also clear a 29x2.0. Fork is 27.5.
>>
>>1031362
Who said it was? But it's an aluminium frame with a half-carbon fork, while the Substance is steel. They're just different options.
Charge has some nice bikes in this price range too.

Cop or not? Looks like the perfect commuting bike for me. I also hear the sport SS is a really well built model from japan.
>>
>>1031765

Not measured it. I'd say it's within normal parameters at a glance
>>
>>1031835
'Made in japan' is normally a good thing, but with bianchi, they where the cheap models. 'Sport' is also universal bicycle language for entry level. Golden arrow is also pretty crap. All fine though, just don't 'upgrade' (fuck with, waste money) it.

It's in nice original condition (aside from the rims being drilled for schrader valves). It's got the reflectors, pie plate, og brake pads, etc. Most of the wear looks from mother time. This is the best kind of bike to buy. A coat of dust, dry bearings, cheap and unmolested. It will need (some- a lot of) work though.

It would make a great commuter (unless you're weak and somewhere hilly in which case the gearing is too high), but it will never be a great road bike.

As long as a steel frame has been protected from rust and physical impacts, it doesn't degrade over time. With that bike I'd be more concerned with the condition of the wheels, the crappy brakes, and the mediocre drivetrain (esp. shifters) than I would about the frame.

So after taking apart my wheels to clean some shit off my bike I realized how heavy they are so I decided they will be the next thing I upgrade in it.

It's a Canondale CAADX 2016, it has 6-hole discs.

I really have absolutely no idea where to start as I've never bought or built wheels for a CX bike like this.

I've built road wheels before and I know that if I don't get all compatible componentes I'll end up wasting a bunch of money and time, so maybe someone can recommend me where to start? Or maybe even a wheelset that I can just buy?

Again, I can build wheels, I've done it before. Just not for CX bikes with disc brakes.

I'm looking to spend around 300-350 pounds (that's around 400 dollaridoos).
>>
>>1032011
for around 400? shit
Williams System 25 are great but they're like $525. Scan your local CL or watch pinkbike/ebay for some sweet deals, always a good way to get more value.

>>1031915
The frame would probably be fine if it's steel. Could be rust. The brakes and shifting are almost guaranteed to suck shit though. Used is a good way to go but man get something more recent. Not worth it.

>>1031759
Get something used on craigslist or up your budget. Anything around 200 will be abysmal. Even used for that amount should absolutely not be used for actual mountain biking on serious trails, the bike will be rattled apart on rough singletrack.
>>
>>1032118
>Williams System 25
I've been checking all kinds of wheels and these look pretty nice, and light.

However I'm still a fat fuck and all the lightweight wheelsets that I'm seeing recommend max rider weight of 210ish pounds, now me being 200ish it actually makes me a bit scared to ride just 5% away from the max weight.

I guess I'll wait to get lightweight wheels until I stop being a fat fuck, which shouldn't take too long anyway.

Thanks m8

its gonna be my first road bike, im currently riding a old but good hardtail and have done 100-150km trips and stuff. wanna get deeper into cycling ( i dont care about racing, but i do compete with myself, like to explore limits).

should i go used? what brands/models should i look for? try to stick with big names cause im not in the states or europe but we have decent distrubution. just not worthy to import something weird with this budget.
>>
>>1032643

If you're doing 150km on an ancient hardtail, you'll be happiest with another steel hardtail, updated with disc brakes, better tire clearance, etc

Surly and Salsa come immediately to mind, but are probably not really in your budget. REI's house brand Novara may be worth a look.

I'd suggest getting an entry level road bike with the new 2017 sora, new tiagra or 105 (new hood shape and cables routed under the bar tape) from a shop with friendly competent staff. Also get some clipless shoes (fit is the no 1 concern, don't buy online, don't limit yourself to road or mtb shoes, buy the ones that are most comfortable), and have the bike store help you adjust your fit. You can buy pedals online. They should do a basic fit for free, help you setup your cleats, etc.

You won't get the best deal and it's possible to spaghetti your way out of getting help from the shop, but it's worth paying the lbs premium for support.

Don't get memed into a 'versatile' bike. Pure road bikes are GOAT. They are also versatile.

Alternately, if you want to be flashy, you could get something higher end used. It depends on your market and how savvy you are.

Don't buy a bike you don't like. What makes you like it or not might be completely arbitrary but it's important to like it or you won't ride it.

I've ridden road for almost 10 years on many different used bikes. The only new bike i've ever had was a shitty mtb when i was a kid.

When i starting spending real cash, my number one priority was probably being flashy. Hence campag record, full dura ace, full carbon, columbus, oria, 531c, 853, you name it. I ride a lot and only now that i have a long term knee injury am i seeing that bike fit should be the number one priority.

If you don't ride much, it doesn't matter so much, but if you're riding centuries, fit is of paramount importance. This doesn't necessarily mean paying 200 beans for some dangus to point lazers at your knees and finger your bumhole, but even that is often worthwhile.

I recently spend 10 minutes walking around a big specialized store looking to try on shoes, demo an allez, and discuss their fancy fitting system. I didn't get approached once. Fuck them. Good shops do exist though.

My first road bike was $100, tange 5 tubing, 7 speed sis. That bike was the zenith of value. Even for 100x the price, unless you're racing, you barely get anything more. It's not an option for many people though.

I've been cycling for more than thirty years in one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world and the simple fact is that there is no such thing as a bike shop or bike shop employee that isn't garbage. Most bike co-ops barely aspire to the level of decency.

If you can't or won't acknowledge this simple fact, there is something DEEPLY wrong with you.

What do you think of pic related for £350 ($444 / €417)?

I've looked at the Decathlon Triban SE 500 which is the most common recommendation in this price bracket (costs £300 / $380 / €358)

But this Merlin thing has racier geometry. I'm an amateur with hundreds of miles of experience, on my dad's bikes. Right now I only ride an old Raleigh road bike from the 80s. My reasoning is that if I splash out for a brand new bike, I want it to be as close to something I could use in a sportive as possible.

I don't do proper racing, or even club riding, right now. I just do my own riding, and not very seriously at the moment, although I used to do some charity rides of between 50 to 100 miles a day.

But I want to up my bike game so I can start going for more proper rides. My current road bike is wank, especially since I took the gears off for the purposes of city commuting. Now I want to do proper riding again and I can either upgrade my current bike (derailleurs and shifters at minimum, and probably the brakes too) or splash out on a new one... which I do feel really guilty about 2bh, because I don't know if I will do enough riding to justify it, or whether I'll get bored of proper rides after a few weeks or so.

Thoughts?

Just to clarify btw

When I say I took the gears off, I mean the derailleurs and the downtube shifters. So it's a single speed now, basically. I shortened the chain, so it's just sitting in one gear on the cassette (no chain tensioner; drop-outs are *semi-*horizontal so I just pulled the wheel back as far as possible to tension the chain)

So I want to do some proper rides, but I can't really on this thing. I did have a Shimano Sora rear derailleur that I fitted to it a few years ago (the original one blew apart), and I think I still have it. The front mech was shit though, the spring was gone. And I might have lost the down-tube shifters. Couldn't find them the other day.

Also as I say, the brakes are shocking. Old style single pivot. I would love to put dual pivots on, but that requires drilling the frame, and I can't be fucked. Maybe just new brake pads? Better than nothing I guess.

So in my situation, would you perform these upgrades, or splash out on a brand new bike?

Pic is from google, but same model as mine. Imagine it converted to a single-speed in the fucked up way I described above.

Writing these long ass posts has forced me to think about the process and now I'm thinking maybe I should do the upgrades. Brake pads are quite cheap - the mechs and shifters I *hope* I can find in the garage. If not then down-tube shifters and a front-mech will be needed. But still - upgrade or buy?

Hey guys
I'm looking for a replacement of my Giant P-SL1-tires. They should provide low rolling resistance, good puncture resistance and -here I'm struggeling a bit- good comfort and grip. I think I'll have to choose between the conti GP4000SII or the new Schwalbe One V-Guard. I'm not a big fan of Schwalbe's MTB-tires, but its said, that the One is more comfortable and grippy than the Conti? Is it right? Or highly subjective?

You could blindfold me and put me on any bike at my shop and i wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

The biggest factor is how it is adjusted

You sound like a douche
>>
>>1034365
I'm sorry, I wasn't very clean on why I don't like the SRAM. I checked some reviews before I tried it and most people said they weren't too good. When I tested the bike it rode very smoothly, but I am afraid they won't last long. But that wouldn't matter since I've got a spare Shimano 105 set. I'm only wondering if somebody has any experience with the bike they would like to share.

45 years old is nothing to a well-built steel frame if the paint is intact and the bike has been protected from corrosion.
Two bikes in my own collection are over 44 years old. Eroica events typically have bikes that are far older than that. The larger problem is what happens to parts after prolonged periods of neglect. Most of the time the consumable items (brake pads, cables, tape, hoods, plastic bits) are in poor condition and need replacement before the bike can be ridden safely. The bike you posted is no exception.

Are all fixies basically the same?

I want to get a shitty commuter bike for locking outside and I'm curious about fixied gear and don't need another geared bike.

I can't tell what the actual difference between fixies would be except that the better ones are 10 pounds lighter than the shitty ones.

I have multiple road bikes, double butted steel, superlight aluminum, carbon fiber, I'm not the kind of person to lay the superlatives on thick. As far as I'm concerned they all seem fine to me after putting on some high TPI road tires and proper inflation. The biggest difference is the steel one is about 8 pounds heavier.

Is there any reason not not just get a shitty hi-ten one?

>I'd like to use it just for lesiure.
I have a foldable BSO and I have carried up to 30kg of stuff on it and it still rides. For some leisure rides I don't think the bike will break into pieces unless you are a landwhale.

>>1035566
>Is there any reason not not just get a shitty hi-ten one?
For commuting, having a non fancy, cheap and reliable bike is the best option. The ride quality won't be the same as one with a nice bike, but you can leave your bike outside with no problem and If someone steals it, you won't lose too much.

The top tube-head tube- downtube part looks welded and does not look very garbon, and you can see welds behind the chainring. Weld=alu

Hello Hello, i need advice from you guys, as im going to go see this bike in a couple hours.

im the guy asking about felt bikes, but now i finally have the correct info. the bike im looking at is an used f75, all stock, 2016, 4 months of use with recipt.
heres the info: http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2016/Bikes/Living-Line-Previous-Bikes/Road/F/f75.aspx

they sell it new here for 1400usd, they want to sell me this one at 1000usd. used market here is way more limited than in the states though, that kinda explains the not so big price drop.

do do you guys feel its a good deal for an 7005 alu bike with 105 groupset?
it weights 8.8kg. that concerns me a bit, isnt this a bit heavy for the price i would be paying?

thanks, and sorry for asking so much before this with wrong info. but now i would really really apreciate your help. i have no close people here that know their shit about bikes, so i have no one to ask. and this is the final yes or no before me going to buy it. thanks!

this is my only other current option, (third option is waiting, im not really in a hurry, other than missing a deal).
Giant OCR1
carbon fork, brakes 105, crankset 105, pedals ultegra, shifters tiagra, seat selle, weight, arround 8kg. dont know the year of this bike, but you can see it has some use.
this bike is beeing sold at 670usd, thats the last price, wont go down.

would you choose this one instead of the felt? or waiting is better? thanks bros

>good deal for an 7005 alu bike with 105 groupset?
1000 is an acceptable price
>it weights 8.8kg. that concerns me a bit, isnt this a bit heavy for the price i would be paying?
I think the weight is acceptable since the bike could easily be lightened by changing the wheelset and tires

>>1036084
this bike is very similar to the one above, I wouldn't decide between the two on price, get whichever fits you better
>>
Between these which would be a good choice for a frequent rider?
I'm somewhere in that budget (400 euro), and I'm looking for a good touring bike which I can upgrade in the future and that will last me atleast 7 years.

Europoor here ,I think I need some advice. I have a very entry level bike, good and reliable but kinda big for me, the fit is ´´ok and not great´´ for 100km rides. I have around 1000 euromoneys saved and was thinking about buying a new smaller bike to ride it during at least 3-4 times a week, 150-250km each week. The local used market is shit, here for 800-900 euro you find 5-6 years old garbon and the rest are low overpriced low tier like my bike (for example a low tier 90's 10sp cost 100-150 euro).

I was wondering if I should buy a new decent sport bike, with tiagra-105 if possible online. At the moment I have seen a low tier canyon bike for 900 that looks nice, Canyon endurace al 5.0, full tiagra groupset and shimano wheels. Another option I have seen it's a decathlon bike with incomplete 105 (no shimano chainring/brakes) with mavic wheels.

Is there any other good option online? aside from some sale from chainreaction/wiggle?, does anybody knows reliable online stores?.

And about the bike size...My current bike has a 56,5 top tube, and I feel like I need a bit less aero position, should be a 53-54 bike better?
>>
>>1036242
The Canyon is nice. Other alternatives that would be very high on my list is a Cannondale. Don't be put of by the alloy frame. They're lighter than some of the competitions carbon frames and known for excellent handling.
The usual suspects - Evans, Wiggle, Merlin - will have one in your price range.

One of the Planet X bikes recently won a road bike of the year award. It's twice your budget, but the cheaper RT80/Maratona models are just barely above your budget.
The now ageing RT58 introduction alloy model has been available at a steal every now and then, and the all steel Kaffenback with hydro disc 11spd Apex 1 fit you budget just barely.

Bike sizing is very individual, but a typical 53-54 frame might fit a typical 175-180 guy. The caveat being that there are no typical frames and no typical guys. As long as you have standover the rest can be adjusted by changing stems/bars/posts - within reason.
>>
>>1036113
Anyone?
>>
>>1036260
Thanks for the webs names, the planet X ones seems to be nice, will bookmark the page and check it from time to time until I decide which bike will buy, because I'm not in a hurry, and the 1k budget can be increased a bit if necessary because with 1,3k there are more options.

I'm not that big (183cm) but the 27.5ers cost the same as the 29ers, and people say 29ers have better capabilities, like rolling over smaller obstacles. Any reasons not to buy a 29er?

(http://www.merida-bikes com/en_int/bikes/hardtails/29-hardtails/2016/big-nine-20-md-4341.html)

Not actual touring, more like long distance driving. I was considering an actual tourer or a road bike but our roads have more craters than the moon.
What's wrong with 29ers?
27.5 tires are difficult to find here at affordable prices and 26er is too small for me.
>>
>>1036551
Don't worry about that, some people even do touring on fat bikes, this summer I saw three guys with garbon fat bikes, they probably were doing a popular 1000-1500km route . Touring isn't about the bike, is about how you can deal with the travel, if you are having fun and want to travel, you can do it even on the worst possible bike, there's a guy on reddit/imgur who has been in more than 125 countries and said that at the begginning he rode on crappy bikes (walmart tier). So, a decent hardtail will be perfectly fine, specially if you take dirt paths, and, 29' can be better for riding long distances than 27,5'.
>>
>>1036561
True, I've done 15km runs in 40 minutes (through city traffic and slight elevation) on a 130 euro bike my dad bought me 9 years ago. I must've put around 50.000 km on that bike, but the frame is too small for me, and everybody I know keeps telling me that so it's time for a new one.

I've saved some extra money but my price range is 400 euros, and since a local bike shop is having a sale I've got my eyes on that one at the moment. It may not have some expensive running gear but I managed the before mentioned mileage on a shimano 7 speed freewheel cassette , some no-brand chain and a front chainring that says Xing Hua on the side. It survived that mileage, 4 downhill descents (paved road, 75 km/h) 1 mtb race and me in my childhood.

We have a local hill with mild trails and a paved road going to the top that all my friends go to for the weekend except me (the fourth time i went with nearly gone v-brake pads and hit a patch of sand in a curve left from road work or something, when I came to a stop mid turn I was about a meter away from the guard rail, haven't been up since) that I would really love going back to again and there are 45 km runs to the nearest town that I've been building endurance for, those are for the moment my requirements for my new bike.

Since I've been out of the loop for awhile I turned to you guys to criticize my choice and give me tips and/or pointers.

>>
>>1037446
You wiping and washing will cause more wear than a tiny coat of dusts. Clean it as often as you wish. Wipe the chain when it starts to look grimy. Wash the sand of with a hose when you come home from a ride in the rain. Give it an annual overhaul with a good clean, new wires, housings and cassette - or do it all a bit early if you're fixing a mechanical problem and need to take it a part anyway. Change chains twice a year or thereabout, assuming you ride a fair bit and all year round.

That would work. Only thing less than optimal about that bike, given your requirements, is that the crankset is cottered and the bottom bracket uses completely obsolete British standard threading that disappeared after the 1970's.

>>1038685
It's pretty low end, I think we could find better on your CL

another option, a bit pricey but nice. I actually own one of these old Soma Competitions myself, they're decent 70's frames with okay parts, but nothing really special.

Another good option, another bike I have previously owned myself. Don't listen to anyone who says that these frames are too stiff, put good modern tires on and they ride great.

you're going to struggle to find anything new and decent for $400, but you could visit this place and see if they have any Winter sales going on. You might be able to get a deal on an FX bike since they're a Trek dealer.

>craigslist
your local CL is awful, not seeing anything there. A couple older road bikes for decent prices but their frames are too big. Most everything else is too small or crappy. I do see a link there for another shop that says they sell used bikes too, might be worth checking with them to see what they have:

What in the fuck are you smoking? BSA threading is _the_ standard. The french and italian thread standards disappeared.
>>

Standard BSA threaded is 24 threads per inch. Old Raleigh bikes (British, but not "standard" British threaded) are 26 threads per inch.

Damn, you're a god

I wish I had better refined what I was looking for. I'd want upright handlebars and fenders at least. Non-rim brakes would be neato.

So I guess I'm looking for a city/utility bike moreso than a road bike.

Do you think handlebar replacement and fender installation would be possible/practical?

Maybe the other Anon didn't notice the Nexus 7sp hub. $400 seems a fair price if everything works. Probably needs new tires. Ask the owner to throw in as many accessories as you can get from him: helmet, pump, lock, whatever.

I'm interesting in cargo trikes and rickshaws. The pedicabs shouldn;t be too hard as I'm in the UK and most of our major cities (except mine, obviously) have them.

I've got my eyes on a Gromier trike, but the back platform looks a bit small and something about made in taiwan puts me off even though I'm sure their quality has risen since I was a kid. I was also puzzling over if I could attach a trailer onto it. A big one like a Pashley Euroload.

As far as rickshaws go, the prices are all over the place so I'm guessing the quality is too. A lot of them do actually get made here.

Would this be rideable for someone 6 feet tall with a 31 inch inseam? 23 inch Raleighs are rare as fuck and I haven't been able to find one other than a 21 inch frame model. I've heard that the top tube was the same length for each one regardless.

Don't know the "types" of bikes, just want something to get around base with. Get to formations in the morning, get to the store, go on food runs, things like that. It's fairly flat land, so hills aren't a big concern

$300-500 I guess. Never bough a bike before, don't know what a good one costs.

I'd like to be able to attach some side bags to carry some cargo, but I imagine that's more about accessories than the bike itself.

I'm honestly more looking for advice on buying a bike than specific recommendation. Never been much of cyclist, just want a healthy way of getting around base, and to save money on gas.

hey man I just bought one of these at a thrift shop for $15. have a reveiw.
the 3 speed hub is great ,but it might take some reconditioning. just keep feeding it oil and its should come back to life.the seat was sent from satan replace it immediatly. i like the slack geometry its a real chill ride. also it preety far on the heavy side, but im planning on turning mind into a moped so I dont care. on more thing you will probably have to replace the cranks soon mine didnt last very long. i just happen to have a spare BB and cranks laying around so it wasnt a big deal. final verdict its not a performer, but its infinatly better than your typical walmart BSO.

If you had the choice between these two bikes- orro gold ultegra and canyon endurace cf 9- which would you go for? Bear in mind if I get the orro it comes with a professional fitting included in the cost, about an hour in length, and then gets set up, including handlebar width, stem and crank length, saddle height etc. However, the orro is about 1kg heavier, and the wheels are probably not as great (fulcrum racing 3s vs dt swiss rr21 dicut).

Any thoughts?

I can only ride the orro, but not the canyon unfortunately. The only reason why I wouldn't get the orro is the fact it weighs about 1kg more and has slightly worse wheels, that's the only thing holding me back from it really.

FX 3 over FX 2 mostly because internal routed gear cables

This is an investment for uni, as cars are overrated, so since I'll be living close-by, I need a nice bicycle for riding 3 times a week, averaging 30 mins-1hour 30 mins a ride. Riding on all flat pavement or paved trail for weekend enjoyment.

Just purchased pic related for 750 eur. Good or bad purchase?, it has full 105 except chainring, triple butted frame and probably cheap wheels. The thing is the bike has direct mount brakes, how are they?. Picked the bike because at that price other bikes have sora and tiagra at 900-1000 euro range.
>>
>>1042315
>>1042111

>doesn't need drops
I'd probably still recommend you get something with drops if you're going to buy new, since they're much more comfy on rides longer than a few miles as you can move your hands around. The whole drops are uncomfortable thing is a meme, they're actually nice if they're not set up too low.

>$1k
I'd probably get a specialized allez e5 sport for $980. Its the version with sora, which is almost as good as tiagra for a lot less money, unless you really have to have that extra cog.

If you like trek, the 1.2 is pretty nice, basically the same groupset thats used on the allez and a pretty nice frame.

If you want disc brakes and 10 speed, the giant contend sl disc is around $1k and has mostly tiagra components, which is a pretty good deal.
>>
>>1042325
you did decent
its not going to be the best frame in the world, and upgrading the wheelset is probably a good idea when you have time/money

overall, that's a lot of bike for the money though, and it looks pretty fun
>>
>>1042367

nearly all road bikes don't have mounts for stuff from my research. deal breaker as 90% of the time I will just be riding a couple miles. also most of the flat bars (trek FX) seem to have less tire issues (flats, gravel).
>>
>>1042521
wider tires are going to have less risk of pinch flats, so that's true
you can find road frames with plenty of mounts, although some brands are better about it than others

if you want stuff with lots of mounts, touring oriented bikes are nice, and usually come with very puncture resistant tires. fuji touring is good for around $750

if you do want to go flat bar, the trek fx3 you mentioned isn't bad, although imo its worth paying a bit more for sora components
