>>1025049

>>
>>1026186
I like it. It's pretty light for a cruiser, and actually has decent geometry. I ride it on rail trails, and back roads, sitting upright is such a nice change from being low on the bars. Yeah it's slow, but I can really take in my surroundings. I'm debating upgrading the hub to SRAM automatix, and using it to commute.
>>
>>1026197
>It's pretty light for a cruiser
Modern cruisers with aluminum frames are significantly lighter than mountain bikes. My 1979 Schwinn Spitfire which I am trying to restore weighs 45 lbs but doesn't even feel that heavy. My new cruiser weighs around 29 lbs.
>>
>>1026621
>My new cruiser weighs around 29 lbs.
I kind of regret buying a 29er though. I can't find cheap cruiser tires for them (most are MTB). I could buy Conti or Schwalbe tires but those are more expensive. I guess it's a comfy ride but it uses weird rims too (so I have to get extra long Schrader valve tubes). Beach cruisers are really common, so maybe I can trade for a 26" one (or maybe a cheap 700c fixie). It's a cheap wal-mart bike anyway so I don't care.
>>
>>1026644
That's interesting. I almost went for a 29" over my 26" Fuji. I figured it was a toss up between cushy riding, and nimble handling. I never thought 29" tires would be hard to find.
Hows the quality of the Walmart cruiser? I imagine if there is any bike they can get right, it's a single speed.
>>
>>1026651
>Hows the quality of the Walmart cruiser? I imagine if there is any bike they can get right, it's a single speed.
From experience that is generally true. Cheap cruisers are not bad if you assemble them yourself. There's an interesting blog post by a guy who rode a Huffy Cranbrook (only $79!) 300+ miles and enjoyed it.

It rides fine. The fenders got bent out of shape and I took them off around 3 years ago. I took the chainguard off too; there was nothing wrong with it, but I didn't like the noise riding off curbs. It is a surprisingly good bike for mild off roading. Some of the bolts were rusted, but the bike has been stored outside for the greater part of 3 1/2 years. The coaster brake is a cheap brand (KT, I think), but it stops well generally. I even took it to the skate park and rode up and down the quarter pipes. I let one of the BMX kids ride it and he had fun even after almost wiping out. That's what I like about cruisers. They are in some ways like adult sized BMX bikes. I could make it into a "klunker" with a BMX stem.
>>
>They are in some ways like adult sized BMX bikes. I could make it into a "klunker" with a BMX stem.

I bought my Fuji originally with the idea of making an adult sized BMX bike. I ended up enjoying the stock handle bars a lot though. I think there is a decent market, for upright nimble bikes that is being missed out on. Most single speeds embrace the tuck, which is fine for minimizing drag. But it's not the type of riding most people grew up on, and an upright posture is much more enjoyable for fucking around. Sadly most upright bikes, look at feel like they were ordered from AARP magazine.
>>
>>1026725
You can kind of tuck on a cruiser by putting your hands in the middle; it's the seating pasture more than the bars that make it awkward.

Cruisers seem to be popular more with older riders and young women. In my experience, they are not really slower than mountain bikes on pavement. For overweight people riding to get in shape, they are a good option. Cruisers are absolutely better than any $99 dual suspension abomination with grip shifters.
>>
I found Vittoria Tattoo Light 2.3" (ETRTO 58-622) tires for $15 each on Amazon. Unfortunately I accidentally got the non-Amazon Prime ones. Still, they look like good cruiser or BMX-style tires. The only thing I worry about is the coaster brake skidding destroying them. Here is a mountain bike with those tires.

>>
>>1032222
There are no barrel adjusters on derailers anymore (rear derailers used to have them, can't say I remember ever seeing one on the front) and the levers don't have any built in either. No idea why that is, it'd be understandable with under tape cable routing but would be easy to do with those side exit cables, but that's the way it is and those in line adjusters are the easiest way to get the shifting correct.
>>
>>1032228
Don't 9 speed rear mechs, specifically the 7700 mech, (with the exception of xt and deore shadow) all have barrel adjusters? Most bikes from that era had them on the dt cable stops too.

How is it not redundant clutter?

>>
>>1032233
My mistake, I did some research and you are correct. I could've sworn road mechs ditched the barrel adjuster like MTB ones. I'm not a roadie so don't I'm not the most knowledgeable, likewise I can't tell the age of those shifters by looking at them (I would've guessed fairly new based on it being a quite modern frame and I know there are still some current shifters with side exit cables).

My point still stands for the front mech though, without that in line adjuster it'd be a pain to get it indexed, and I suppose if you may as well adjust both in the same area and close to the shifters instead of having to move back and forth.

What was your reasoning for not just getting some bar ends? The only advantages I could think of for bullhorns is being able to use bar end shifters and possibly slightly less weight.
>>
>>1035524

I tried bar ends and disliked the wide hand positioning at the end of my flat bars.

The real advantage I was looking for is getting down in a headwind. Since the top tube on the mtb is short, the bullhorns make for a good grip/elbow rest combo.
>>
>>1035535
So why not cut down the flat bars? That way you can choose any width you want. You could also place them inboard of the grips, that way you can have a narrow aero position and a wider flat grip for more leverage and stability.

I didn't want a true aero position (narrow) because this is a winter bike and I wanted better control.

The flat bar I had was tapered and I wasn't able to shift my bar ends to where I wanted them while still fitting my shifters.

>>
>>1035433
this is one of the most retarded things i have seen in recent years.
>>
>>1035565

I guess I just always assumed road was longer due to the angle of my back when I'm in the saddle. Maybe top tube length isn't a great measure, but I would assume that at least the overall reach distance on MTBs is generally shorter, right?
>>
>>1035567
I'll admit it looks retarded, but I really only use this thing for winter commutes. It was cobbled together from spare shit in my garage and fits my needs perfectly.

>>
>>1035576
No, it's longer you retard. Maybe if you didn't have the stem adjusted to maximum height you'd have a more aggressive posture.
>>
>>1035579

I have dropped the stem down since I took these pics.
>>
Let me adress what you are about to adress: I am aware that I am utterly shit at wrapping my bars. Does anybody have a good link I can follow for a good method?

Also I used the Prologo finishing tape because I only had yellow and green live wire tape, and it looked awful. I put the prologo tape on to cover it and it has held out since.
>>
>>1035586
No need for tape, go from the inside out.
>>
>>1035586
Looks tolerably okay to me, the right side is wrapped in the wrong direction and ends a little further from the stem than on the left side - but in practice those things don't really matter. If you want to get better at wrapping bars you just need to practice - even pressure and consistency are key.
>>
>>1035586

>>1035589

Its ok from a distance, only just realised there's more of a gap on the right! Hoping to get a set of compact bars in the sales after Christmas so I will recycle this tape and try again. These bars are tricky to wrap, I find, because they're quite old fashioned angular ergo bars. Or thats my excuse anyway.

In positive news, this tape feels great. Thanks for the feedback!

But what's really wrong with it? I like that style of bike. It looks cheap and reliable. American beach cruiser bikes are like that though, but usually with 26 inch wheels. There aren't that many cheap 700c road bikes with coaster brakes. I think a lot of the Russian ones have 26" wheels too, so they are just like American cruisers but with straighter geometry.

Yeah. That's why I like them. I would actually like something like you have though. I'm not too old for drop bars yet. I like those pedals too.

Yes, 6.0. Got if for the price of a 5.0 cause Canyon failed to deliver for 3 months. Doesnt matter much and I got a huge discount now. Didnt check it out, but the bolt is probably under the top cap, saw that before. The rack coupled with an ortlieb roller bag is awesome, bought a shitload of xmas presents, bottles of wine, meat and other stuff and put it all in the bag today. No more biking with a backpack on.

dude, we've all seen your bike. you're spamming it in every thread. You're not even posting your cockpit in the cockpit thread.

just chill out. the reason you're not getting a huge response is because your bike is completely unremarkable. posting it everywhere is not going to get you any more (you)s. we get it. you love your bike.

Geo's not bad, actually the axle to crown length is too short for that frame.

Whoever owns this bike should add some fork spacers to bring the frame up a little. Unless, of course, they feel good with a bike like that, and then it's just a matter of opinions...

Problem? I like multiple hand positions during long rides. When I ride a few hundred km I get tired and like to lay down on my baiku. And aero bars weren't even designed for racing, they were designed for long distance riding/touring/randonneuring as an extra hand position.
