These are the leaders of a 100mt long, 23% incline segment. Guess I won't be getting any KOMs soon.
>>
>>1011580
KOM's measured without power data or heart rate analyses, especially on non-dedicated cycling paths or greenways, should be instantly disregarded. It upsets my autist tendencies when some douche gets a top mark solely because they used their GPS unit while in a car, I really hope that Strava is working on a away of weeding out these cheat times.
>>
>>1011582
I used to report whenever someone's recording was obviously done from a motorized vehicle, but as you can see this shit has gotten out of hand, so I give up.

Went for a ride this evening about 15 minutes before sunset. The weather was very nice ... too nice. After doing a few loops of an industrial park, I rode back into town. Since it was dark I figured the MUP would be a better choice for getting home. Nope.

Stealth pedestrians everywhere enjoying the warm evening. No close calls but I had to dial back my speed a lot. I'd get to a T intersection in the path and have to listen for any bikes without lights. So I abandoned the path and got back on the road.

A light on the bars just doesn't cut it for riding the MUP in the dark. Changes in grade and turns have the light frequently pointed in the wrong spot. Next time I'm going to put a second light on my helmet.

Riding at night is pretty fun though. I seem faster in the dark.

Does photographic evidence not count?
>>
>>1011612
On a fat bike forum some people occasionally post ride videos that include on bike footage, along with footage where the camera was placed on the ground. Watching the videos I can't help ponder the logistics of them.
>ride over something you think might look neat
>stop
>setup camera
>ride back up the trail far enough to be out of frame
>ride past camera
>go back and get the camera
>repeat

Some of them have so many camera positions, I'd swear they spent twice as much time placing the camera as they did riding.

Picked up a cheater bike on Monday evening.

Haven't used much of the motor yet 'cause my daily commute doesn't have any significant inclines where it's actually needed.

Will hopefully be taking a good long trip on Saturday to put it through its paces.

what speed is it limited at? The normal ebikes here are limited at 25-28kph so with a roadbike you are significantly faster than them. Theres no reason to get them unless you are 80 years old, and I get a bit sad if I see a <50 year old using one of them. These 25kph limited ones are literally swarming the streets.

For the actual commuters there are 45kph ones too but they have a number plate and have to obey moped rules, like obligatory helmets and speed limits, and you rarely see them.

Finished the climbing challenge, feels good man
Though I remember last year I'd finish them in a week, man have I gotten lazy
>>
>>1011800

Limit is 15.5mph I believe however that's just how far the motor will help you, after that your own leg work kicks in.
>>
>>1012009
why even bother then, unless you live in a veeery hilly area. Does it have enough power to drag your fat ass up the hills at least? The ebikes here often have only 250watts of power which with the heavy bike and heavy rider is only enough to make them crawl up the hills.
>>
>>1011627

lel, that's a tiny ass head tube.
>>
>>1012020

Hills is basically the entire purpose for me getting it. I live in Northern Ireland and am quite keen on my photography but my weak bitch knees suffer if I try to cycle up the likes of Cave Hill or all the way to the Mourne mountains which are idyllic locations for photos. So I splashed out and got this thing to take the edge off.
It handles most climbs well enough, even with steeper inclines I find myself being able to get up them far quicker than I ever could on my usual mountain bike.
I usually only use the e-assist shite when I need to get up to speed quickly, after which I can switch it off, or going up inclines. The bike is grand to use without the motor and even provides a better workout in some cases cause IT'S SO FUCKING HEAVY.

I'll be heading out for a decently long trip this Saturday to put it through its paces. I'll report back here with pics and details.
>>
>>1012028
cant you combine sport and photography then and get in shape so you can climb the hills like a true champ? Are your weak bitch knees from being out of shape or actually chronically shit?
>>
>>1012049

Why are you so weirdly obsessed with my cycling performance?
I regularly jog and have my own free weights at home, I'm in decent shape. I just prefer getting around on my mode of transport without wrecking myself man. Chill out.
>>
>>1012051
>Why are you so weirdly obsessed with my cycling performance?
not him, but it's probably because it's supposedly the reason you got a motorized bike.
>>
I developed a nasty case of vertigo shortly after finishing a ride yesterday. I felt like crap rest of the day and had trouble walking in a straight line. Turning my head while walking was definitely something to be avoided.

Seems to be mostly gone this morning. Probably an ear thing as I had a perforated ear drum that never seems to fully heal and can be reaggravated during allergy season when I blow my nose.
>>
Oh man i'm seeing these super long rides and i'm baffled, i went on a ride today that totalled 30km and I'm fucking dead in my feet right now from how tired i am. Granted I am seriously out of shape
Hopefully i can reach these levels at some point in the future.
I'm looking to get a Road bike to replace my mountain one but im still on the fence about it.
how do you guys orient yourselves over those long distances and going to places you dont know? I did the 15k to one side and i was feeling really lost and just came back
>>
>>1012083
just to clarify this was my first serious bike ride outside of commuting to and from work which takes less than 10 minutes
>>
>>1012083
I use HERE maps on my phone, you download a map of your whole country so you can access it even if you don't have a data plan. And don't worry, you'll be making long trips soon enough, when you first get into cycling your stamina improves surprisingly fast.
Also get slick tires for your bike if you haven't already. Have fun.
>>
>>1012087
Why slick tires if i may ask? and how wide for that matter, i have quite wide normal tires
>>
>>1012051

>>how do you guys orient yourselves over those long distances and going to places you dont know?

I used to do the same little laps all the time because I didnt know the roads too well. Then I decided to get a GPS headunit. By plotting routes beforehand I have explored the area and gone on huge rides without ever needing to worry about getting lost, or slowing down to check where im going. I also now know the area very well and can do long rides without needing the directions. It costs a fair bit but its one of the best things I have bought.

Routebuilding has become a thing I enjoy now. I spend lots of time trying to figure out routes with as few as possible lights or crossings, and I check out roads and crossing on streetview to see if I could race through there without too much of a holdup. Feels so good when you nail a 100km ride without having to stop or slow down once because of the route. Ive got a ton of roads and bike paths available to me in the neverlands it allows me to do this kind of shit, in a murrikan grid you probably wont have much of a choice where you go.

Its all about how much you want to spend I guess, but if you have the money I would strongly recommend.
>>
regarding Strava, do i need a data plan to have it work when im out on a ride?
I dont have any sort of data plan on my phone so i would only have internet at home and then i'd be flying solo, does the app work anyway or should i find an offline map app?
>>
>>1012101
Because they give a smoother, faster and more comfortable ride, provided you're riding on pavement only. Wideness is up to personal preference, I usually go for 2"
>>
>>1012114
No, the app can work with GPS only. You then arrive home, connect to your wifi or whatever, and upload the ride.
>>
>>1012118
thank you very much for the info, will hop by the local bike shop and see if they have some to sell me, will i need to change inner tubes as well?
>>
>>1012120
No, as long as your current tires and the new ones are of similar width.
>>
>>1012119
>[Strava...]can work with GPS only.

Yes.
The Strava app can record a ride without a cellular-data connection. When you finish a ride it will periodically check for an internet connection (e.g. WiFi) to upload the ride.

>>1012114
>[another...] offline map app?

RideWithGPS has offline turn-by-turn navigation. you need a subscription to create your own routes, but many features (e.g. printing maps and route sheets) are unlocked if you use rides created by a club administrator.
>>
>>1012119
>the app can work with GPS only

But does it have offline maps?
>>
Late supper so another late ride that was half in the dark. Since I was already late getting going I didn't bother trying to track down the helmet mount for my light. Instead of my Ixon IQ Premium, I opted for the brute force of my 3 emitter 1000 lumen light at 50%. The brighter light was pretty decent on the MUP since it throws light everywhere. The Ixon is underpowered and focused too narrow for twisting paths.

Nice thing about an evening ride is that its shorter so I don't have to pace myself and push a lot harder.
>>
>>1012183
No
>>
>>1012183
>>1012297
It does but I dont know exactly how it works. My phone has no data access and I still get a map if I check. Maybe it saves from a certain radius from where you last had internet or something?

I wonder if they let the interns do weekend forecasts, because the 10 km/h wind ended up being 20 km/h when I left the house, and 30 gusting to 40 a few hours later.

Had a slow leak and had to top off one of my tires twice. Found a metal ammo box on the side of the road, which turned out to be a geocache. It was actually on the road so someone probably moved it from where it was meant to located. Several more inches of rain Monday Tuesday followed by low temperatures, so tomorrow will be the last gravel opportunity for most of the week.

So i just did my first ride with my road bike, i usually rode a commuter just to go to work and back and this made a gigantic difference i'd say.
I could probably have gone further but it was extremely dark out and i didn't bring my front light so i just did around 20k.
For reference i weight 87kg and am 1,70 so yeah i'm a fat manlet.
Bike is a Triban 520
Also i dont really understand what some of these numbers mean, i was using strava more as a map than anything.
Any tips for you experts? I'm in it mostly to lose weight

for me losing weight was more about diet than anything. I was lifting and riding and desu I was only sleeping 3-4 hours a night at that time. I lost about 10 lbs a month for 4 months solid before it slowed down. Just ride and enjoy exploring new areas on your bike. oh and check out my fitness pal to count calories, its a nice tool to get you to a lower body fat percentage.
>>
>>1011613
i dont see anything wrong with picking a session spot and filming for a while. helps you hammer out your technique and feels good if you film something rad.
>>
33 miles, 3,400ft. Climbed Montebello until the pavement ended than then kept on climbing the fire road over the top of Black Mountain, then descended Page Mill.

If you get into cycling from having done practically no exercise, expect your weight to not drop much for a few months. Muscle weight gain can match fat loss at the start, so weight won't be the best indicator of progress.

Went on a little ride out of work, and as soon as I was on the bike I felt like a god. Usually my FTP would be something around 260 and it would be quite tough to hold that for a prolonged time, that shits gets me going at 175bpm usually. Today I was doing 300 watts for long stretches at only 170bpm and feeling quite okay. And when I got home I still felt good.

Feels good to have a good day I guess, now I want to figure out how to make more days good days, because this was a fluke.

Short sloppy windy ride on my fat bike today. We got snow yesterday and last night but it is wet and slushy on the roads. It was nice riding on the grass where the snow was the deepest, but my legs are going to need to readjust to that bike. The forecast has revised the temperature for the next week down to no higher than 6 C.

I did some laps around the local steep hill. I did not even go that hard and took it very easy on all the non hilly parts, and still I am absolutely destroyed.

Short steep hills are just fucking murderous, no chance to get into a rhythm and I automatically put down a ton of power because I automatically try to maintain speed.

Conditions before i left home today
Didnt expect it to be icy at all but it was. The bridges were fully frozen. First snowfall and its cold enough to ice over already....
>>
0 °C very damp and a bit windy. Rode for about an hour, I couldn't have gone much longer because my toes were starting to go numb. I should have wore my winter clipless boots instead. My saddle needs to be a little more than 1/4 " higher when using those boots and I didn't feel like making the adjustment before going for a ride.

I'm optimistic daytime highs will return to around 12 °C until the end of October after the current weather system passes. Most of the snow we got should be gone by the end of today. It already melted from the paths / roads yesterday, and those will dry out today if there isn't any more rain.

I also bought a fake leather jacket for casual use but used it for biking today to university and it's warmer than my goretex. Also costs a third of the price of gore. Is it just a meme?

Not sure how to dress for tomorrows ride. Weather's just starting to turn here so too warm for the full on cold weather gear and too cold for shorts and a jersey.

Forecast says 1-2°C when I leave warming to 10-12°C, light northerly wind. Guess it'll be arm and knee warmers and maybe a softshell jacket or baselayer. Don't think it's time to bust out the full length bibs yet.

Went with Jersey, shorts, long sleeve baselayer and summer gloves. Pretty much spot on tempwise: chilly when I set out but warmed up on the first hill 1-2km in. Didn't realise I spent so long on my coffee stop, got caught chatting to the barista. Usually 15 mins in and out. It was on a well paved straight main road and i'm on 28's so it's not too bad. The singletrack country lanes at 30-40km/h are way scarier since you can't see far ahead and there's random gravel and earth along the centre of the road so keeping a good line is tricky.

I went for a 3 hour wander around town. It was damp and cloudy but fairly pleasant. With the recent rain and snow the roads in older areas are covered with a leaf puree.

While going across a bridge where the road narrows I stepped on it a bit getting up to 32 km/h. When I checked my mirror for cars I saw a mountain bike coming up from behind me very fast. As it went by I saw it was an e-bike with a big mid-drive motor.

How much did you guys ride and what was your average speed when you started?
I started about a week ago and rides of 20 to 30km at around 20~22km/h average.
I'm mainly riding to lose weight since im almost 90 kilos, any tips?
I have changed my diet so as not to consume so much garbage and eat healthier food
>>
>>1016424
there are 3 things you need to do in order to get 'fit' nutrition, exercise, and SLEEP. aim for 8 hours.
>>
>>1016424
Been at it for almost 3 months now, when I first started a 20-30km ride was like "holy hell, how am I gonna do those distances".
But I kept upping my distance and pushing myself and you'll be surprised just how much you can do. I went from 10 -> 20 -> 35 -> 60 -> 100km all rides on sundays with shorter rides during the week.

I deff notice that I'm riding faster than when I started but headwind always makes my averages drop from like 25kph to 22-23.
>>
>>1016426
Its extremely windy where i live since i live right next to the ocean but when i do get to a sheltered road i just feel myself going faster and not having to work so hard.
>>1016425
My problems here is that the only exercise i dont abhor doing is cycling so its what im doing currently, hopefully ill get a bit leaner.
For the nutrition part i mostly just mimic recipes i find online because i can't cook worth shit
>>
>>1016427
>Its extremely windy where i live since i live right next to the ocean but when i do get to a sheltered road i just feel myself going faster and not having to work so hard.
Well yeah, cause there isn't wind pushing you back. learn to love headwind, you'll get faster against it and even faster with no wind.

Also losing weight with cycling is p hard to do, maybe you'll get the odd kg lost but after that it's down to nutrition and extra stuff you do off the bike.
>>
>>1016424
I have recently started riding a bit more frequently than I used to. However my daily distances osculate around the 20-30km mark. But my average speed ranges from 13-18 km. I'm sure I could make it bigger easily, but the road conditions near me don't really allow me to break the limit of 50 km/h (excluding two "bike roads" that actually let me break that magical limit). Thus I'm forced to take the rides in the woods or through the small villages and micro towns around me, but then I can't really accelerate myself there to the point that I would be satisfied with myself.

As for the details, I'm a fat beginner, 95kg 178cm. There are mainly forests around me and the bike roads in my town aren't all that common, sure, there are quite a few of them, though it's still not enough for me to ride on them seriously. I'm lucky enough that there aren't any steep slopes around me so these kind of things don't really slow me down. But I just feel kinda pathetic not being able to ride with the speed I like in my town or near it without using the streets outside of the city. I'm mostly riding casually, twice or so a week, lately for 20km distances, though I'm a fat faggot so even that distance makes me sweat like crazy.

Anyways, I just wanted to write that I'm honestly amazed with your average speed, I wanna know how you do it.
>>
>>1016436
I share the sweating problem i'm 87kg 170cm, im a fat manlet beginner.
I don't know how i get these average speeds, my legs are pretty big but its just the speed i feel comfortable going at, i've maxed 50 something but i mostly say at 25 tops.
I've been pushing my max distance everytime i go out, 20km isn't much but when i get close to 30 my stamina starts to go, the downside of having been a games with no social life all my life i suppose.

I only have 1 bike road here and it's absolutely atrocious and is always filled with people jogging who won't let me through
>>
>>1016424
I started riding again almost exactly a year ago after 10 years of smoking and no exercise. First time out I did 10km at 17-18km/h and thought I was actually going to die. Just kept at it trying to do a bit more each week and now I'm doing 120-150km a week with a long ride like >>1016099 on the weekends. My aerobic fitness is still my weakness since I still smoke but it's improved a lot in the last year.

>>1016441
Ride on the road not the MUP if you want to go fast. I pretty much never bother with bike lanes since they're full of pedestrians and you have to stop and give way at each junction here.

Just under 3.5 hours today with the temperature around 3 °C. Felt fairly cold with a wind 25 gusting to 40 km/h. I could feel myself running out of energy around the 3 hour mark.

7th rigid mtb ride in a row. With all the shit weather I haven't taken my touring bike out since the 1st. The CylcoX King tires I have on it seems to dissolve on asphalt so I'm saving them for gravel, but the gravel roads have been too wet.

I've been mostly riding around town with my Edge 800 on map display and going down random roads, paths and alleys. I made a very convoluted route file for today, so the garmin was constantly beeping at me. It was also acting a bit goofy giving turn notifications 200 meters out which meant occasionally having to pass 2 roads before reaching the one it wanted me to turn on.

Went up the "mountain" for the first time since June. Four months. My fitness has all but disappeared and it was by far the slowest time ever up it. Hurt like hell.

Some notes:
-got passed by what I assume was a regular commuter on a >flat bar road bike with a rack and panniers and maybe a backpack too. Hardman,
-definitely need to go back to the stock saddle for this bike, need the cutout. Tried various angles on the arione and my perineum does not appreciate any of them
-need a compact chainset, probably. Was over 200W (I'm weak, I know) at many sections with less than 60 cadence. Not cool.

Went on a nice nature-y loop after work, was sick all week so it was nice to finally get out again.

Also I nearly got viciously murdered by some cunt parked in his car on the cycling path who swung his door open just as I passed, there was a high kerb on the side of the path and I only just squeezed through. If he was just a tiny bit further in his move of opening the door he would have caught me. Fucking cunts not paying attention, looking behind before opening the door is literally the first thing you learn when you become a cager. The last few years I've been using Strava to find new places to ride (looking where other people like to ride) and keeping track of where I haven't been yet (empty spots on heatmap).

A few years back using the heatmap and my Edge 800 map display I set out to ride the entire city a chunk at a time. And since last year I've expanded my exploring to the multitude of unpaved roads surrounding the city.

Made the video with this: http://renderfast.com/runparticles/ and Cam Studio screen recorder from about 80 rides covering 4,000 km.

I've been down the road near the landfill many times this year. There is a recently paved road up that way that lets me bypass the city when heading east.

For the roads outside the city I've covered just about all I can. It takes a ride of 4 hours or more to cover new territory. The small rectangles are 1 mile by 2 miles.

Bay Area got rain (finally!) but it meant today's fire road climb turned into a mud slog.
>>
>>1017880
That's really cool, must've taken you a long time to do that.
>>
I went for an early 50 km ride to beat the forecast rain. Had to fill a slow leak in rear tire twice before it ended up going completely flat. Rear tire on my Troll is little annoying to change. Horizontal dropouts make getting the wheel in and out tricky, particularly getting it back in. Also the tire I got from the discount bin at the LBS is tubeless ready, hence a really tight fit on the rim. I have to make sure the bead is pushed into the center of the rim all the way around just get enough slack to get the last bit over the rim even with a tire lever. Got home just as the rain was starting. Grabbed a 2nd and 3rd overall on two segments on the way home, though the first one was out of 7 riders. I was more impressed with the second one since I reached the start point just after a left turn instead of having 3 blocks to gradually buildup speed before the segment starts.

I said fire road, not singletrack. There's no trail to "ruin", and they're already washboarded to shit by the forest service trucks anyway.

>>1018433
They're ok at best. You can shift from the hoods, but not really from the drops. I'd prefer regular bar end shifters, but on an off-road bike, they get bashed into things a lot out there (including my knees). Retroshift (now re-branded Gevenalle) is definitely a compromise, but they're reliable in the muck and you can fall back to friction shifting if necessary, unlike brifters.

I tried a set of Suntour Command shifters once. The ergonomics are pretty terrible. T shifter lever may block the hooks, the hoods, or the ramps from your grip, so you have to modify where you're gripping the bars based on what gear you are in.

2.5 hours at 0 °C with a 35 kph wind. I was expecting to keep the ride short when I left the house but it didn't feel too bad when I got going. HR was up and slow to recover so I think its time for a rest day after 13 straight days of riding. I've been steadily losing weight all fall and have dropped below 160 lbs for the first time in probably 15 years. One thing that seems to be helping is replacing lunch with a large salad which has all but eliminated fast food from my diet. More importantly the fiber helps move things along quicker in the morning routine before heading out for a ride.

Took my touring bike out for the first time since Oct 1st. My legs felt ok but my HR was mid 160+ the entire ride. Nice to be able to go fast again. I was planning on doing some gravel so I ignored the fact my tires felt under inflated and squirmy. Turns out they were 30 rear 25 front which is a bit low for 700x32s. Was a pretty nice 8 °C but the wind was stronger than they were forecasting.

I like it a lot, but I'm also pretty flexible so the aggressive geometry suits me well.

Had a nice gravel ride planned for today, then it poured overnight. Going to go for an evening ride instead since the wind is supposed to die down. Shitiest October since I started riding year round. Even if September is wet October is usually awesome, but 14 days of rain and temperatures well below normal, insufficient to quickly dry out gravel roads this year. And tomorrow another cold saturating rain, but I should be able to sneak in an early ride.

Western Canada. September was great, but most of my rides in October the temperature has been between -3 and +6 °C, maybe 2 days over 10.

If all the moisture this fall translates into a super snowy winter I'll be happy. I only got out snow shoeing twice last winter and neither time was very good.

Temperature dropped fast this evening when I went out. Riding around the MUP in the dark I kept flushing out rabbits. There are so many of them in the city. Once the creek freezes over coyotes start coming into the city parks to hunt them. I've come across random rabbit parts on many winter rides.

I was slow today, not sure if it was the wind as it didn't give me a huge boost on the return trip, but the direction shifted a bit. Days like these I'd love to have a power meter so I could non-subjectively know whether it was me or the conditions that sucked. Despite its limitations I like the features of the powerpod, like being able to give you the effective headwind. It would be great if the manufacturer worked with the ANT+ group to get those incorporated into the spec.

Saw some nice halloween displays, I'll have to take the time to get pictures of them tomorrow.

Strong wind today. I was just as slow as yesterday but my legs felt better. My hi-vis windstopper jacket can be a bit of a hindrance on cloudy days like today. Most of the time I find it better if cross traffic doesn't even know you are there. Drivers kept randomly slowing or stopping while I was waiting at stop signs, bogging down traffic and fucking up the gaps in vehicles I was planning to use to cross. No idiot, you don't have some magical power to control the vehicles in all 4 lanes!

>tfw constantly shitting pants while riding on the first few snow days
Every fucking year.

I can't help but ride overly cautiously and still feel like I'm gonna wreck it constantly when the first snow comes down. Even with the front studs, Schwalbe btw, it just feels wrong. Combine that with riding clipless and I've got absolutely no confidence in my riding. The memeskin I've still got on my rear tire certainly isn't helping and it is legitimately the absolute worst traction of any tire I've tried on snow/ice. Just need to get used to riding in snow again to regain that confidence.

I'll probably be doing donuts with the memeskin on the ice rink come new year.
>>
>>1021581
Just ride with like half pressure, it helps a ton. Of course you're gonna be a slug but you're a slug already from the sound of it.

I feel you tho, I'm not very confident in my cornering either, actually slipped out in one last year and ate dirt and it wasn't even snowy or anything. I'm even more of a coward in corners now.
>>
>>1021583
It isn't a problem with pressure or traction, other than on the rear tire but that's not really a problem when riding.

It's about not being used to snow/ice after riding the summer on asphalt and riding too carefully because it feels wrong as you know it's more slippery than dry or even wet asphalt but aren't really used to how you can take corners. Takes me few weeks every single year to get used to riding on snowy/icy roads without feeling like I'm about to slide out all the time.
>>
>>1021581
Why the fuck would someone ride clipless in snow and ice?
>>
>>1021581
The wheels can slip out sideways very easily when its slick. So you pretty much have to corner with the bike as upright as possible which feels weird and you have to turn slower.

You also have to be really careful anywhere a path has a significant sideways slope to it as you tend to get pulled to the low side and risk wiping out if you fight it.

The absolute worst is a little bit of snow on top of ice. It raises your tires just enough that studs are useless.
>>
>>1021599
Because it really isn't a problem in normal snow and ice. And they're set up to pretty easy release so I can get foot down when necessary. It becomes a problem when there is sludge that melted during the day and then refreezes into all kinds of shapes that make riding in a straight line impossible. But I change to flats for the spring for that reason.

Normal ice has pretty good traction with studs, especially if it has any sand on it. Packed snow is even better. As anon said the worst times are when it's fresh snow on top of ice or when partly melted snow refreezes.

>>1021614
Yeah it takes some time to get used to cornering again.
>>
My mtb had a flat when I was geared up for a ride this morning, so I just pumped it up and hoped for the best. Ended up lasting over 2.5 hours before it started getting noticeably soft and made it the whole 3 hours. After repeated difficulty crossing this one intersection all week I figured out a better way to deal with it. I turn left down the alley just before it and pop out through a parking lot which lets me get into a left turn lane so I can wait for traffic to clear one side at a time instead of needing it clear in both directions.

I've been riding my rigid mtb all month due to weather. I think my legs have finally adjusted to it, since my avg HR dropped below 140 for the first time in a while.

I'm not sure if that adjustment is inherent in the switch between geometries, or if the fit on one bike is just wrong. Or the mtb having a 7 speed cassette forces me to work more and shift less. Or urban riding with lots of turns, stops, accelerating instead of rural cruising with few stop.

I seem to have been building muscle all month since I'm loosing fat but my weight hasn't moved at all. Probably also explains my higher than normal HR.

Throw in the weather, just too damn many variables.

GPS on my new phone is garbage despite having gps+GLONASS compared to my old one which was just GPS. It cut about 10km off the ride and threw my speeds out, the 75% quartile speed seems accurate though. Next purchase is definitely a decent bike computer.

Great ride though. Around 15C and no wind so I was comfortable in my summer shorts and short sleeve jersey. Passed loads of groups out in deep winter gear: thermal knicks and cold weather jackets, they must have been boiling. Did babbys first hill too, 2km at 6% average with 1km of 8-9%. I live in a pan-flat county so this felt like an alpine col. Favourite barista was working too so I got a decent espresso on my stop.

First week of November weather is looking better than anything we had all October. Nice to get a few 4+ hour rides in while I can. Found a 1" crescent wrench embedded in a dirt road today, perfect for using with cassette lockring tool.

Went out for 70 km this afternoon. Once I turned south it was immediately apparent the wind was much stronger than the forecast 20 kph. Temperature got up to 17 °C which was a bit much for my winter boots.

I was looking at the HR reading on my Garmin before I left the house since it was nice and low. So I sat down for a bit to see how low I could get it, and saw it go as low as 54. That's 21 bpm lower than what my resting HR was when I first got my HR monitor about 6 years ago.
>>
I sometimes have an incredibly low heartrate, like 30bpm lower than usual when riding tempo, but it only happens like 1/100 rides. I dont feel any different on the bike. When I go for a little sprint or something it does rocket up to normal but as soon as I go back to tempo again it drops massively. Would be interesting to know where that comes from desu.

Did a 200 km brevet today. Temperature started at -2 °C and got up to 18. Pretty slow over all. The guy I rode with wasn't feeling well, going at his pace my HR in the low 120s / high 110s. He thought it was just because he hadn't ridden in a few weeks and that it would pass. Then 100 km in he remembered that he had a flu shot yesterday too. At 115 km he decided to call it quits and slowly roll along until his ride showed up. Right on cue as I broke off to finish on my own the wind picked up, so I was working much harder but not going any faster. Since I was on my own I skipped the usually late lunch, just refilling my bottles when I got my card signed, so the elapsed time ended up being among my better ones.

Swapped tires last night for gravel ride today. All ready to go, and the rear tire was flat. Turned out there was a fine metal wire embedded in my slick and it was holding the air in the tube until I swapped tires.

Hit a HUGE pothole that was masked by a puddle, popped both tubes at once, and only had one spare on me. Luckily this was about 2km from home after a otherwise uneventful 60k training ride before school. Frame and components are otherwise fine, so all things considered, could have been much worse.

kek that same exact thinged happened to a dude riding a few meters in front of me a while ago, only reason I managed to avoid it was because he crashed into it quite spectatucarly. He ended up with both tubes flat and a very wonky rear wheel.

Today I drove about 80 km to do a hilly 95 km route. But the wind was much much stronger than forecast so I only did half of it. Managed to KOM a segment on the return leg. Once you start hitting 60 kph on dirt, you don't look at your computer very often. The return leg was pretty awesome, a rolling descent and at the apex of the rollers my speed was still over 40 kph.

I got in about two hours of riding trails today, great riding except that my waterbottle bounced out somewhere in the middle of the ride. Hopefully I'll find it in the coming weeks, fortunately I was on trails near my house that I ride fairly often.

Trek 520 touring bike with 700 x 35 Continental Cyclo X Kings. I wouldn't recommend those tires as the compound is too soft and they wear very fast.
