We all know about the air force one or marine one, but how about other countries' VVIP aircraft?
I personally like smaller private jet-type state VVIP aircraft compared to those big-ass converted passenger aircraft, tho each countries has its own reason (or the lack of one) to use bigger aircraft

Dutch pilot anon here.
Not as flashy as others, but coming from a small country like mine, seeing this airplane is always a joy. Even more so that our king tends to fly it himself. Additional benefit is that it gets to show off the Fokker name just a little bit longer
I wonder is our king is an /n/-tard, too
Certainly gets the job done :)

US needs to pack fucktons of troops and missile countermeasures in there.
And an Oval Office.
This country is amazing, stupid, amazingly stupid, and everything in-between.

Classified ad for a DC-6 owned by the former president of Zambia. Any takers?

As do China, Russia, India, the UK, France, Canada, Germany, Brazil and other large countries that are players on the political arena.
The President of Rwanda doesn't need real-time information on most political situations because he has fewer decisions to make for his small country. OTOH, the American President needs real-time information on situations to respond to a constant barrage of requests from military commanders, legislators, diplomats and investors. AF1 isn't only for the President to be /comfy/, it's also for him to stay updated.

More often than not, it's just because of some prez/prime minister wanted a bigger ride, using taxpayers' money on a whim without any kind of oversight
I do get the need for them to buy business jets. It's more economical to travel to neighboring countries (or even other parts of the country) using smaller business jet than having to charter an entire airliner especially for relatively short distance travel. They could charter an airliner if they're going across the globe or having to transport high number of vvip personnel
Using an airliner (especially those wide body giants like B787 or A340) is just a waste of money, space and manpower imo. Sadly plenty of irrelevant 3rd-world countries do this when half of their people doesn't have access to basic amenities

Good for those rural / mountainous airports.

Nope.
Turboprop STOL aircraft (Twin otter, Turbolet, Skytrucks and others of the kind) are better suited for rural/mountainous "airports" (which is more like an airfield or airstrips than a proper airports).

Nice plane OP. i recognise this.
>related story here, regarding this exact plane.
when i was 14, my uncle, who is a pilot in the danish air-force, brought me to his work for a week. And i got to change the oil and do some maintainance on some herculese planes, and on this plane, before the Danish queen used it to fly to Greenland.
Just wanted to share that. its beautifully decorated inside aswell!

>ive got that little fokker in site approach
Until recently, we had a Boeing 757-200 (picture).
I guess we'll buy an Airbus A330 or similar.

The Finnish heads of state usually fly commercial airlines.
Third world business jets make sense though because commercial connections might not be very good, distances are long and roads bad or nonexistent and access to charter planes might also be bad.
I spotted the royal air force today in montreal. It was impressive how big the plane was

They don't have to charter plane from their own airlines' companies tho.
Rwandan president, for example, would charter planes from Greece while Somalian president would charter planes from either Turkish airlines or Emirates for long-distance travel. Unfortunately, everyone else in the continent bought a fucking A3X0 as presidential planes

Didnt they order a 737 to replace this?
>>1004176
There is a reason why Air force 1 is the size that it is. It's logistics. And remember there are more planes that travel alongside it. Some are even cargo planes.

Any airplane can be called Air Force One when the US President is inside. He could theoretically be flying a gyrocopter one day and that gyrocopter would technically be Air Force One. On the flip side, the big 747 with "Air Force One" written on the side is not Air Force One when the President is not in it.
>>1020484
Also, if the Vice President is on Air Force one, but the President is not, it is officially known as Air Force Two.
>>1020484
Very nice tidbit anon. Do you know why it was done? iirc there was an incident where the plane president Truman (I think) and another plane got mixed up with their flight numbers. It was to trump (no pun intended) all other call signs etc. and make it known that the president was on board. Even on his [or her :^) ] usual jet the designation wouldn't be used if they weren't on it. It would be like any other flight.
Correct me if I got anything wrong.
>>1020484
Tecnically it's a VC-25, not a B742...
>>1004034
It doesn't. That's the way RDAF military serial numbers are structured.
>>1020486
Not quite, it's known as "Special Air Mission [tail number]", either 28000 or 29000.
