If you're riding exclusively for exercise the bike doesn't much matter (it's time and effort that matter), but exercising on a better bike will be more enjoyable because you'll go faster/farther with the same effort.

Put the other way, there's no disadvantage to training on a super light bike - regardless of the bike, it's still up to the rider how much effort they want to put out, and where they take their heart rate.
