Well, guitar jams are not music for one thing. I mean, it isn't music, you know, it's wanking. That's what is says "jam." "Jam" means "wanking." It's not music, it's meaningless soloing, it's got loudness, and it's got...it has no meter, it has no rhythm. It's not music. It's...you know, it's okay. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, I have no problem with it. It just isn't music, you know. And people who get to be great at jams are not great musicians, they're just great at jams, you know. There's no road from jamming into music, you know what I mean? And, music is something you can get better and better and better at. I don't know if you can do that with jams. I don't know if whether it has that kind of space in it or that it leads into infinite possibilities. Music does.

I didn't really get into the Dead until I was in my 30's ., now I love them.

and Jerry is correct about rap, and I say that as someone who listens to rap.

I attended one of these so called rap "music concerts" and let me tell you what I saw. First of all guess how many guitar solos there were. ONE. One guitar solo. Not one per song, one for the entire performance. And guess how long it was. Less than a minute. LESS THAN A MINUTE. I was literally able to stay awake for the entire length of the guitar solo. That is not speaking me being hyperbolic. Care to guess how long the concert was? 7 hours? 6 and and a half? 2 hours. A 2 hour concert. And the cost of the tickets? $180? $150 maybe? They were $20. There fans were actually able to afford to see them.

It sickens me to see what we fought so hard for in the 60's sink so low.

If it doesn't have a guitar solo it's not music.
