Specifically fuck these two boring, directionless, and bloated albums.
And this is coming from a guy who loves Ambient music.
i just hate how dense the recordings are. i like eno's take on ambient music where the setting you're in kind of blends with the music since it's production is much thinner
Never really liked Brian Eno type ambient, Stars of the Lid has some swagger and style rather than just being a slab of sound

How do you discern good ambient from bad ambient?
>>75193740
Good ambient.
>>75193854
Boring textures is usually what makes bad ambient.
How about this, I fucking hate anyone who starts threads about music they don't like. No one fucking cares. Move on and focus on music you like.

"No"
Eno's music for airports has arguably 'boring' textures, but still manages to be a fantastic piece of music.
It remains engaging without being overbearing. That is how I rate good ambient.
And SotL is not engaging.

this is much closer to the original definition of ambient that Eno coined which involves the music blending with literal ambient background noise. He came up with it while recovering from an injury and the record he had playing in the background was barely audible
