The point of these threads is to there is no point to these threads encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

hard mode: must not be bad
for a band that feels like I never know what they're gonna do next, the new boris album feels exactly like something I'd expect from them. not their worst but for sure their most predictable.
also watching xavier: renegade angel again and it doesn't have the same magic watching it sober as apposed to when you're half asleep at 1am and you can't remember years later if the cartoon was real or if you just imagined it. definitely something you have to experience in context but i'm enjoying it decently atm
>>75156574
>never know what they're gonna do next
>boris
gee i can't tell which of their songs they're gonna play again and which ones will be new
also i started watching xavier a while back because of all the memez but then hurricane happened and i haven't cared enough to finish it
maybe i should i only watched 9 episodes lol
>>75156552

where did you find that pic because i'm like 40% sure I might've taken it
also replaying good songs in a different way > playing new shitty songs
at least in boris' case
I mean if you watched 9 episodes you're halfway through the series lmao it's only 20 episodes. Easy to get through in an afternoon and it's all on youtube.

they're live shows from the 70s but they were released in 2017, therefore it is a 2017 release. '77 Live came out in 1991 and no one is calling it a 70s album. (i hate to use lrd as an argument but that's the best example in this town)

it's mainly to demonstrate how much the band has progressed/changed their sound to their final live album and what they changed from their original songs + for people that want to jump into the live album with zero context. With a lil conceit I can say it's fun listening to the mixtape then 98.12.28 right after

Definitely, which album did you listen to? I think probably the only one worth it is Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River and that's still like 2.5/5 tops
New Bjork song sounds like an Arca song. It's kind of interesting. It's also kind of interesting that such an odd non-song was selected as a single leading up to the album's release instead of something accessible, like Stonemilker was for Vulnicura

Really living up to your trip, good work
For Phillip Guston is a great piece, but leaves me empty, bored, and disturbed. All definitely intentional-feeling, but I think it's enjoyability wanes for me after the first hour or so. In contrast, the Rothko Chapel/Why Patterns? release feels more sparse in an almost unsatisfying way. No matter how many times I would revisit Feldman's material, there was always an element of "not getting" to it.
That is, until this release. Crippled Symmetry feels like in ways a happy medium and imo is Feldman's true masterpiece. The whole piece is skeletal, but never empty. Repetitious but unpredictable. As unnerved as I was by FPG, its length at a time begins to feel like a detractor, where as Crippled Symmetry left me much more satisfied.
A perfect summary of less-is-more in several ways.

>Traffic - The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys (1971)
I own this one but hadn't given it much of a serious listen yet. The title track is of course a career highlight as people that listen to much Traffic might already recognize. For all intents and purposes this is later-era Traffic, but I still have to consider this the full realization of their sound. The debut had at least a couple stand-outs--"Dear Mr. Fantasy" being one of the true lasting documents from The Summer of Love. John Barleycorn Must Die also has fun moments but overall is memorable for just that--some whimsical (if gimmicky) jazz rock suites. Steve Winwood had a great talent but a bit of it just falls into that category that's found itself on the silly side of rock history.
This one is indeed a serious outing. Jazz rock in a way that feels not so forced or cheap, mind you. There's a grey area in which jazz, psychedelic rock, and early prog coexists and Traffic has found it here. I could go on and on about the title track and how I think it's bar none one of the best rock songs of the 70s in how it has this self-contained hazy atmosphere that could drift on endlessly (and did at times in live performances). This is an abstraction, but it sounds at moments here as if Traffic and Led Zeppelin had a similar vague but fixed object in mind as inspiration with wildly different interpretations of it.
Again, self-contained vibe. "Hidden Treasure", for example, is just such a well-written and developed idea...they were so in-tuned at getting it all out on this album: the 70s rock of "Rock 'N' Stew"; the pastoral, progressive, jazzy folk of "Rainmaker", etc. I just ask that the listener let go of preconceived notions about these sometimes-out-of-vogue genres and consider what they've done here.
