Is Animal Collective the most pretentious band ever?

Not a drop of pretense in their music. I don't see how anyone could see that.

Radiohead, Grimes, Bjork, Swans among others I'd consider pretentious (although I like all them as well)

this, AnCo themselves seem really unpretentious. they're just making the music they want to and having a ton of fun, no different from bands like Deerhoof. their fanbase tends to be very pretentious though because ever since MPP it's been flooded with pitchfork-core plebs who think pop music sucks and their taste is obscure and unique even though they listen exclusively to albums pitchfork has given BNM or BNR
