It will pass with time, don't worry. Most of the people call metal fans "rockers", and I tend to find different names for rock related genres I listen to so as not to get associated with those scene fags.

Most of the metalheads won't like noise rock, didn't like it at 15 when I got out of metal. In fact, people who listen to the genres of let's say, thrash or death, aren't open to anything else besides metal. Black metal kinda makes you open to neofolk and industrial music, doom metal makes you open to shoegaze etc. But not death or thrash, he is irredeemable if he only listens to these genres.

Thrash and Death are some of my favorite subgenres and I'm pretty sure I listen to basically almost everything, and I'm far from being the only one in this situation

Work backwards, do they like NWOBHM? If not, get them into that, then bridge the gap into traditional and then into rock music. Motörhead would be a good example of a rock band heavy enough for metalheads.
