what are your favorite Zappa albums and what are good ones that aren't the most popular?
Fuck yes a Zappa thread.
Hot Rats, Apostophe, Were only in it for the Money and Sheik Yerbouti are obviously the best well known stuff. Personally though, I think nothing beats Joe's Garage. It was my intro to Zappa and remains my favirote album of his.
As for the most "obscure" Zappa I like, you can't go wrong with Yellow Shark.

Yellow Shark - one of the finest examples of his classical music, played by a competent orchestra.
One album I don't see mentioned often is "The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life". Late Zappa, live album, big horn section and great arrangements.
My personal favorites are Burnt Weeny Sanwich, Hot Rats, and Absolutely Free (a full-on prog album in 1967!)
As for moat underrated, Chunga's Revenge and the other Flo & Eddie albums - sure, there's a lot of comedy, but there's also some tight performances and Frank's guitar tone is impeccable
Lather is undoubtedly zappakino
The Grand Wazoo is my favorite, some really trippy fusion stuff.
The Grand Wazoo is my alltime favourite Zappa album. Also Shut Up and Play yer Guitar
I am slowly getting into Zappa atm. So far I really like Over-Nite Sensation and Joe's Garage. Some of the silly stuff like Sheik Yerbouti is great too, I think.
i just listened to Sleep Dirt it was good especially at the start and end
My favorite albums are the more rock-oriented ones from the mid 70's: Joe's Garage, Sheik Yerbouti, One Size Fits it All, Overnite Sensation, Zoot Allures, and the list could go on. As for compilations I fucking love Shut Up and Play yer Guitar.
Not sure if obscure but Sleep Dirt was unexpectedly great. Might be the only album where I heard Zappa playing acoustic guitar.

What's some good entry Zappa? I started with Weasels since I saw it on /mu/ a lot, but it just seemed like pseud garbo. I do like London Symphony Orchestra and Hot Rats, though.

Zappa isn't pseud though. Weasels Ripped My Flesh isn't substanceless rymfag experimentation, the guy is a composer and modeling the structure after Stravinsky.
My favourite Zappa album. Not joking

It's some of the best doo wop I've heard. There's nothing wrong with liking well produced 50's rock and pop
I've always had a soft spot for One Size Fits All, it was my first exposure to FZ. Plus George Duke

Yeah, I like it because it is a parody, and doesn't take itself seriously. It's honest
