I don't think /mu/ hates lofi hip hop all together, it's more those stupid youtube livestreams that are constantly in the recommended section

A lot of it is pretty lazy, I think that's where the hate comes from.

i dont like how boxed in it all is, all the artists have the same anime aesthetic (i love anime but its tiring) and the same kind of samples. besides its a genre that lends itself to background listening so the music tends to have little experimentation.
Tomppabeats did something unique with Harbor, with the short song format the album has some character of its own

It's too much of a safe genre. Everyone loves a chill beat, but it takes a lot of effort from the artist to be doing anything amazing or unique with lo-fi hip hop.
