Hard mode, no rap
My top 5 would be
The National - Sleep Well Beast
Sufjan and co. - Planetarium
Slowdive - s/t
King Gizzard - Microtonal Flying Banana
Flotation Toy Warning - The Machine That Made Us
Granted I've really only listened to the most notable releases so far in 2017. It takes me a couple years to dive deeper into the less popular stuff.
>>75077765
This album disappointed me a bit but Lit Me Up might be my song of the year
>>75078767
Why is it dissapointing to you? I find it very mature and focused compared to previous Brand New work. Every song gets better on relisten to me too. I think ive heard it almost daily since release without being tired of it
This, made me cry a few times. Only times it didn't it was when I was playing it in front of people, for obvious reasons.
>>75078794
It just focuses on some of my least favourite aspects of Brand New as a band. Songs like No Control and Waste are just a little too alt-rocky for me to find interesting. I like their post-hardcore influences the most and consider Daisy to be a masterpiece so I was kind of hoping for a Daisy part 2. I'd give SF a 7/10 if I had to rate it but it's just personal preference
>>75078900
Interesting points but I feel like trying ro redo Daisy would be lazy, instead they went in a new direction that worked equally well in my book. Both are masterpieces
>>75078893
yes yes yes yes yes
Way more interesting and varied than a lot of the other '10's post punk acts like Savages imo
>>75078794
I need to listen to it again but personally a lot of the songs just sound like they decided "slower and longer = more mature" without actually thinking about whether the songs were interesting or not
It's still got a lot of killer tracks though
>>75078977
Eh I can see how thatd be a first impression, its an album where little things stick out on each listen. Like on No Control the build up the end gets better every listen
>>75078767
>- Sleep Well Beast
>Sufjan and co. - Planetarium
>Slowdive - s/t
>King Gizzard - Microtonal Flying Banana
>Flotation Toy Warning - The Machine That Made Us
HOLY FUCKING FUCK GO BACK TO P4K YOU ARE WHITE
>>75078767
I've never really been a fan of The National, how does this one compare to their other albums?
>>75079271
>first song is the only thing of substance
>aoty
>>75079160
I'm actually in the same boat as you. I like Boxer and a handful of songs on their other albums but they never struck me as anything too special. That being said, the new album really did blow me away. The song structures work very well with the subdued vocals and the concept of the album is great. I'd also say it feels really cohesive which is something I felt their last 2 albums were lacking. As someone who didn't consider themselves a National fan 2 weeks ago, I would recommend giving it a shot.
The Clientele's Music of the Age of Miracles is the cutest album I've heard so far.
I also really dig...
Zeitkratzer - Serbian War Songs
Oh Sees - Orc
F Ingers - Awkwardly Blissing Out
Fred Thomas - Changer
Chamber 4 - City of Light
Kokotob - Flying Heart
Han Bennink Trio - Adelante
Children of Alice - Children of Alice
>>75079349
awesome, I'll have to check it out
In no particular order:
King Gizzard-Microtonal Flying Banana
Mac Demarco-This Old Dog
Tricot-3
Oh Sees-Orc
Queen Moo-Mean Well
>>75078794
I was really hyped on it, then i relistened to TD&G and it just kinda blew it out of the water, probably have a similar experience when i relisten to Daisy
I would add Anti-Socialites to this chart as well
>>75081028
See I relistened to TDAG and it doesnt hold up against either Daisy or SciFi to me
random order
that one where the dude talked about how America has done the black man wrong and they wuz kangs back in egypt and shit....what was it calleda gain?
>>75081584
D*MN. (my mom told me I can't swear)
>>75077765
I listened to this for the first time earlier.
It didn't really grab me... I was aimlessly browsing and several songs passed without me even realising.
It's nowhere near bad... just didn't grab my attention at all.
I think my expectations going into it were way too high since everyone's been bumming the shit out of it.
>>75081584
damn...
Either:
>Code Orange - Forever.
>Mental Architects - Ascend.
>Iron Reagan - Crossover Ministry.

>Bear - ///.
>Bonobo - Migration.
>AYS - Worlds Unknown.
>END - From The Unforgiving Arms Of God.
>Mogwai - Every Country's Son.

>Leng Tch'e - Razorgrind.

All American Badass wasn't that good anon
Still listening to the John Maus leak until I decide, but right now it's pretty high up. What are you looking forward too?

>>75081554
Thank you for including all of the names on the side :-)
>>75083005

>>75081220
Either this, Rocket by Alex G or the new Ariel Pink album
I can't believe the lack of attention this got.
I'm seriously addicted to it. I was a bit underwhelmed at first listen and back in july when I heard desire I thought they had completely lost it but seriously I like this as much as GtH, if not more
Drab Majesty - The Demonstration
>>75082588
++ Rozwell Kid and Japanese Breakfast

I'm with you, I was disappointed at first but I've gotten hooked as fuck on it.
Good Shot, Good Soldier might be one of the best songs they've done.
Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to The Surface
>>75087008
I fucking hated this album
>>75087143
That Freddie Gibbs is so underrated, good choice.
What I've listened to the most
>>75077765
I thought I would never be moved by an album to this extend again, Brand New proved me wrong though.
Pic related would have to be my AOTY, technically EOTY, I don't care though, it's really good and I like it.
>>75088158
I always like looking at your chart even though I don't know like half of those.
>>75088158
>Wednesday Campanella
My man
>>75077765
Science Fiction is my AOTY too. Pic related is my runner up.
>>75087290
I disagree. Maybe it's because I had low expectations, but I think it's great.
