What's your budget? Do you want a sub? how many speakers? How big is the space of which the set-up will be in?

Budget $100-$300, I dont nessisarrly need a sub, but I would like the setup to have some punch in the low ends, room is small

I have a medium sized Bose sub in my parents house I could take
I got 2 shitty Bose satellites given to me by a relative, since they couldn't figure out how they work, and then found a subwoofer at the side of the road. Boom, speakers.
You'd be surprised at how often that kind of hardware is thrown away. Check your Salvation Army or whatever the hell for old-ass receivers or satellites or what have you.

in my old room I was able to wire 12 speakers together with shitty wiring, I got a 14" piano amp from my church for free, two speaker towers, a bose sub and two surround speakers. I stripped a 1inch jack and some other wires and stuffed all the connections into 2 outputs on a radio receiver and the shit bumped

Just bought 3 pairs of speaker from my local thrift store for a total of $22. Good shit. The speakers aren't the best but they work for blasting music for a party.

Is $300 a hard limit? If you're willing to spnd $50-80 more you could have a very good setup.

What do you have in mind?

I'll just throw out some recommendations of various price points and info about them.
Elac B6 $280
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014GSEQ06/
Very good speakers that can get loud and have the low end you're looking for. They require a good amount of power so you're gonna need to spend a little more on the amp.
Fluance Signature $200
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A5UI5V0/
This is what I'm using right now. Very good. Love them a lot. Better suited for up close, but in a small room they'll still be good.
Kanto YUMI $IDK
https://www.amazon.com/Kanto-YUMIP-BLK-Passive-Bookshelf-2-Channel/dp/B01DPRZ2ZW/
Amazon doesn't have them right now, but I'm sure there are other places you can find the. Easy to power. Have decent low end. Best for a desk so that could limit you for a room setup.
I'll make an amp list in a second

Also you should ask /g/. /hpg/ might be able to help you better. I'm not an expert on speakers at all. Most of what I know if from reading with little amount of hearing them myself. It would probably do you some good to ask others.
