It went wrong in that it was awfullly chopped and screwed 80s tunes slowed down, it is very samey.
Vaporwave like 2814 is what keeps it alive.

I'm happy Vaporwave seems to be coming out of the internet-meme era and can just be continued by fans and artists like any other music genre.

Hopefully people will move onto low-fi hip hop or something and over-expose that instead.
