>Father John Misty
What does /mu/ think
I enjoy his stuff. Can get a little tiresome after so long because a lot of his song have the same sort of mood to them. But he's not bad.
Sometimes he feels kinda tedious and but then there'll be a line you really connect with and it hits you like a truck.

I think Honeybear really hits that line between mushy lovesongs and self-decrepitation that made it a really enjoyable album. But if you go to far into self-obsession and self-analysis, you eventually stop saying anything at all and it becomes annyong and meaningless.
Which is what happened with Pure Comedy, where he's so far up his own ass he stops ebing itneresting.
where's /pol/ when you need them? :(

very awful garbage
>Fear Fun
good shit. was nice to see a new act coming through with so much personality, musical diversity, and sheer energy. also helps that it's easily his wittiest and funniest record. 8/10
>I Love You Honeybear
arrangements are quite nice and he still does a good job of keeping things varied but a lot of the fun energy from FF is missing here, though it makes up for this with a really nice concept that leads to some of his most authentic and emotional lyrics. 7/10
>Pure Comedy
he kinda disappeared up his own ass. I didn't have anything against a 75 minute album from the guy on principal but the variety, energy, and clever observations are totally absent here amidst a bunch of samey piano rock. has some of his best material to date (Leaving LA, Bigger Paper Bag, The Memo) but is ultimately dragged down by the bloat. the concept doesn't help this. personally the idea of finding humor in the fucked up resonates really strongly, so I think it really says something about the effectiveness of this album that the lyrics, outside of the songs I mentioned, didn't connect with me at all. the observations he makes are really shallow and honestly make him seem fairly out of touch (the taylor swift line got an audible groan out of me). idk. don't see the hype personally. appreciate the ambition Joshy, but more Fear Fun please, less of this. 5/10
tldr; I'm autistic

>Trying to imply that there is any philosophical meaning in this guy's lyrics beyond the basics you figure out by the age of 10.
Pure comedy is a great album,it describes him and his approach to music perfectly.I listened to it once, when i was too bored to write in youtube "Luis ck".

good read. thanks anon
FF > HB > PC

I would disagree about the taylor swift line being out of touch. Don't people still jerk off to photoshop porn of celebrities? or the fappening and all of that.

I'd say it's absolutely true, but it's such a bland, vapid lyrics on the level of "nobody talks anymore, only looks at their smartphone"
pure comedy aoty what a writer this fella is

I basically exactly agree with this. Fear Fun is a wonderful record but he's gradually moved in the direction that I never wanted him to go.
He's a cuck or somethig I guess?
His cynicism is really normie-tier, it's like reading the snarky comments below the fucking Guardian articles. The things he hates are precisely what makes human existence charmingly ironic. He claims he's too well-read, but he should've read Baudrillard or something to have something actually interesting and controversial to say. "Pretentious" is the word that for once applies in this case.
Musically speaking it fits the mood really well but it gets old really quickly as well.
