How do i get into classical music?
>>
Not worth it imo.
Unless you're just doing it for posturing it takes way too much effort and is basically a hobby in and of itself.
>>
listen to erik satie and be done with it
>>
>>75049268
"listen to it"

watch documentaries about it or about composers.

If its worth listening to music, its worth listening to good music.

Classical is some of the best music (being written by highly trained professionals), so why not put in 5 minutes to work out what classical is and which parts of it you like?

Part of music is the journey of discovery - finding out about new composers or pieces or styles. There is no lack of variety with classical - 500+ years of the most varied genre there is.

>>
>>75049318
I listen to baroque and romantic era music. I'm just saying that I don't really consider it worth the time I put in and I realised that my love of classical era music was just posturing.
>>
>>75049333
get hooked rather
>>
>>75049338
OP clearly isn't referring to classical era, rather classical music as a whole.

Ever "liking" something for posturing is purely retarded either way. There's some great music written in the classical period. Haydn String quartets and symphonies, pretty much all Mozart and Beethoven are sensational.
>>
>>75049385
Sorry I meant that I'm not intelligent enough to understand and comprehend classical era works because they are too complex to the point where I'm bored if I can't whistle a nice melody like I can romantic+baroque.
>>
>>75049338
this was a difficult thing for me. i definitely loved these exact two genres but i hated the image it portrayed. some broke joke driving a shit car pulling up beside you jammin rachmaninoffs piano concerto 2.
like you gotta wear a fucking monocle and be filthy rich to enjoy it.
>>
>>75049268
I'm not too into classical, but what's a good recording of Adagio for Strings?
>>
>>75049482
try the original string quartet version instead, an ensemble of strings removes the intimacy of the original

Classical is a meme just because it was composed hundreds of years ago
People in 300 years will consider Kanye and Kendrick Lamar same as classical so it means absolutely nothing

Why are retarded plebs like this even allowed in /mu/?
>>

>listen to a mediocre composer and be done with it
???
>>
>>75051391
Hey wtf dude I know I'm a pleb, there's just nothing I can do about it.
I'd rather just listen to a bach choral/cantata than a symphony, aint my fault that beethoven's hard to appreciate
>>
Listen to "The Lark Ascending"
>>
Also the planets by Holst
>>
>>75049268
Just listen. Tastes within classical music vary as much as they do between other genres.
atm, I am really into Ralph Vaughn Williams

He is at least trying, whereas the majority of the board would never give classical a chance.

With memes.

finally someone else who's fallen into the Satie rabbit hole! I've scraped the classical barrel for a while and I still think he's one of the greatest. So sublime, melancholic.
>>
Ok I was hoping you guys could help me, I'm trying to write an orchestral piece and want to add a pizzicato string section, but I need inspiration. What songs can I listen to to get a better understanding of how to achieve that sound?
>>
How to get into "modern classical"? I can listen to electronic/musique concrete all day, but most of the "modern classical" stuff I hear is just obnoxious.

Listen to Liszt and be down with it
>>

Beethoven's symphonies aren't that hard to get into. Try his third symphony, it contains as much emotion as any romantic piece.

opera is the final boss of music.

Just a few simple starting points really. There are many more composers (and more periods), but ultimately your best bet is to try out a few composers from different periods to see which ones you prefer the sound of.
