Why is pop music so boring now? It used to be upbeat and fun, and the shit was still fun to listen to. Now, everything is so boring and slow.
>Look What You Made Me Do is just some immature fueding over an electro beat with some annoying noises
>Despacito is just some spic talk with drum noises and a faint Spanish styled track
>I haven't heard Bodak Yellow on the radio yet but it's probably just some hipster bullshit
>I haven't heard Wild Thoughts yet but it's probably another generic rap song over a shitty beat
>Attention is some puny bitch with auto tune
What happened /mu/
When i was growing up popular music had a lot more variety.
Punk, metal, rock, pop, rap, r&b, etc.
As someone who grew up in a time like that i can say from my perspective that music has become bland and the only forms of popular music that seemed to be allowed now are pop and pop rap.
I mean, if kurt cobain were alive today he would get his wish to never be famous.

>Bodak Yellow is rap
>Wild Thoughts is hip-hip rock fusion
Guess I'm not missing much

I don't think rock's making a comeback anytime soon. My younger brother's hoping to get rich making rock music, but when I don't want to break it to him that he won't break through. Pop and rap are the only genres represented, and somebody needs to change that.

No, what i really miss is variety. Popular Music in general got whittled down to just pop and pop rap and its such a garbage time to be alive.
Its like how movies are nothing but remakes and comic book shit now.
Mass media in genreal besides maybe TV took a real down turn in the teens decade.
pops always been pretty generally shit lads what were you expecting looking at the billboard hot 100 as your source of quality music

What we're talking about is the variety. If you look at the charts 15 or 20 years ago, you can see all types of genres represented in the charts. Even in 2010, you can still see this trend. Sometime in the last few years, this changed, and all we've had since was slow pop and generic rap, with an occasional indie or rock song thrown in. It's extremely boring.

its been like that for forever. If you look at the most popular songs of the 60s you'll find it's mostly the pop sound of the era with an occasional rock song, not that dissimilar to today with hip hop. Today's charts cover everything from reggaeton to country to rap to rock to soul, which is say is pretty par for the course in the diversity of popular music
