You people won't like what I say but: it's simply more masculine.
First, simply by our culture and tradition.
Second, it accents squareness of male skull and figure.
Third, it's much more practical—less faggotry like washing/drying etc.
There's a reason punk stuck with short hair. Yeah, i know, 99.9% metal bands have long hair. And? This tradition strarted with rock, it used to symbolize rebellion but it doesn't mean shit anymore. Then it was power's symbol of, uh, power. Doesn't mean it has to be forever this way? I don't think so. It lost its meaning unless you larp as a viking. But even then historically warriors of many nations used to have short hair. For, you know, practical reasons.
Post black metal with riffs.
Pic related.

Also, to add to this: last but not least, not everyone has good enough hair. More often than not, it will look like shit. Unless you pour as much effort in it as women do.
>>75043320
So? First, hippies and neckbeards are anti-establishment too. It has become not so much a symbol of rebellion as symbol of chronic unemployment. Second, punk is more about anti-establishment and protesting than metal.
As I see it, metal is about evil and brutality first. Being anti-establishment snowflake is not core of metal, it's more punk than anything. Yeah, back in the day it was protest against religion. But I think true fans stayed with satanism because of mercilessness, raw evil and brutality.

Neither DM nor BM are about what you said. Yeah, as I said, death's gore imagery had been sometimes used for be shock value, in some cases, but more than anything it has been not about punk (used to be hippie) protest, but apology of sheer brutality.

Did you just pull it out your ass? Or do you listen to trad alone?
>>75044508
I mean not eating shit IS a social norm
>>75044460
How do you even associate that with trad? Trad stuff is the least like this. The empowering aspect of metal comes from being hard hitting visceral music with forward progression through riffs. Trad stuff has far more repetitive rock based structures and isn't as hard as the other forms of metal. This one's almost universal in the realm of metal just because of the nature of the music itself regardless of lyrics.
Also, not that other guy so I agree that the latter about muh natural order is mostly just second wave black metal tripe if anything.
But at the same time I don't think metal is really all about brutality and evil at all. There's occult stuff sure, but that doesn't necessarily necessitate evil. There's death metal with gory lyrics, but it's just on a surface shock value level. Metal isn't the genre that deals with actual evil and messed up stuff, that goes to genres like industrial, power electronics, etc.

"cause I'm a rebel, riding fast, drinking hard, playing loud and heavy, yeah"—literally the essence of Manowar etc.
After giving it a little bit of thought though, I guess metal does often come with some degree of rejection social norms—but it's such a basic, entry point of metal, it's too mundane to even mention, and this applies to plenty other genres which are not pop/AOR/easy listening/etc. And actually I don't even think this applies to power, as a matter of fact.
In any case, protest against the establishment is not the end goal of metal, and is by far a punk thing.

>>75044600
As for 'empowering' (fuck that word, seriously), I don't know exactly what you mean, but I think that's more of hardcore thing, and certainly not the first and foremost goal of metal (although its likely product).
I think that a lot of metal has been more focused on music first—the raw energy/heaviness and riffs for headbanging, or at least the atmosphere. The empowerment may come from it, but it's usually not the end goal.

>Manowar makes song about women being their sex slaves with female moanings
>Manowar writes lyrics about kings/gods
why is this band such a joke
>>75045027
But what was posited wasn't exactly rebellion but rebellion into naturalism, which isn't exactly what Trad's all about.
>>75045179
That doesn't work as well for hardcore as it doesn't contain the forward momentum of metal, which thus makes that more frustration/angry type music than empowering.
>>75045272
personally I liked First Kill but not The Mooneyed And Paralyzed as much

Also, synthwave is generally pretty dark-sounding, I guess. You heard of Dance with the Dead?
>>75045583
It's got this slightly dark tinge to it. Sorta why metalheads also like futurepop or EBM or dark ambient as it often has a dark, melancholic tinge to the music despite not being like metal in the slightest otherwise.

If you know your shit there's much of oldschool bm to be found in every aspect of the band, and having absorbed the tradition they can take another step on the road to Hell. Okay I'm done (and gay)

I could tell there was 2 or 3 people overall, but still nobody else ever posted Deicide so I thought I was the only one who liked them
>>75050553

I honestly agree completely, and I would go as far as to say most metal also touches selv-improvement and prosperity. Many of us work out and are high testosterone, and our long hair is a symbol of that, of how the modern male does not need conformity to express himself, and that he will prosper and find himself within strength, not within nu-male shit.

Any song mate, you're missing the bigger picture. It's all in the music, in the riffs, that's why nu-males hate metal.

all of osdm and 1st/2nd wave bm since they're predicated on "only death is real". when you parse through the statement it can be understood as a sort of existential death-awareness that, as a first position, serves not necessarily as self-improvement itself but as a means to see things (reality) as they are (which then can lead to self-improvement). as in it's a mental framework that upends society's value-system constructs as the smoke and mirrors that they are in its death-consciousness. which is why in place of socially polite aesthetics old death and black metal were so able to find, if not beauty, then legitimacy of expression in what was traditionally the ugly and profane
why isn't there a streaming service exclusively for extreme metal

I was in one of /metal/ threads few weeks ago and someone posted: Dream theater:panic attack. I listened to it, it was pretty good, so i downloaded dream theater discography
I listened to the whole discography and there were like 5 good songs, others were pure garbage. I had to force myself to keep listening holy shit.
What do you guys think of dream theater? For me its the worst """" metal"""" band i have ever encountered
>>75052156
I still respect them for being one of the first metal bands I loved, especially their Black Clouds & Silver Lining album, which I still enjoy from time to time as far as nostalgia goes.
I think they're a good band for metal and prog beginners, but not much beyond that.
