Soundcloud posters will be drawn and quartered. (Just kidding, getting angry about soundcloud posters is just plain silly. It won't stop them! But also, don't post soundclouds, this isn't the place for that. You just end up looking down syndrome retarded if you do. Retard.)

I've been making shitty hip-hop and rap beats for several years now, but I want to do something that I think is even more fun.

I'd love to get more into EDM, but I also want to get to a point that I can set up and, one day, perform at some shitty open mic night.

Is there even a point to trying to do Live-EDM these days, or am I just going to end up smacking my spacebar on my laptop and flailing in front of a bunch of drunks?

Does anyone have any recommendations for some artists I should look in to that do more than press play?

it depends on the note's funcion within the scale.

if you have a scale which its first 3 notes are, the first, a minor third and a major third. the minor third interval is actually the scale's second, so the scale is made of an augmented second and a major third
>>
I managed to setup the MiniLab and put the AnalogLab software as VST on Ableton. But if i run it as a VST on Ableton i get some delay on keystrokes and the pads are really unresponsive, but if i run AnalogLab by itself everything is fine.
What do.

Oh shit I didn't even know this was a thing!

I've been making electronic music for about 5 and a half years. Lately I've been putting a lot more focus into my guitar playing, and this is just a little snippet of something I'm working on right now

Is this a bad mix or is the guitar recording just shitty? I can never seem to mix heavy guitars well I can't put my finger on what specifically is wrong though, it's just off.
>>
>>75003434
>https://clyp.it/f2ibiehw
IMO the guitar is mixed WAY too loud relative to the drums

what are you running it through before it goes into your DAW?
>>
>>75003536
noted. an alesis multimix 4.
>>
>>75003591
I'd suggest recording through a legitimate guitar amp if you can. I'm not entirely sure why, but once I started running my rig through my Mustang II, all my guitar tracks just immediately sounded better even though I was running them through amp models and all kind of other things
>>
>>75003642
i record with a mic in front of my amp into the mixer into my daw. Clean guitar honestly doesnt sound bad at all the recordings actually sound pretty good or at least better by comparison, but anything with gain starts to sound hissy and lofi, dont know why and id hate to blame the mic when im probably at fault for shit micing.

I'm thinking of using my dad's spare/old iPad as a controller for my VSTs. Right now i'm trying to decide between the Lemur app (based on the Jazzmutant Lemur multi-touchscreen midi controller) or Duet Display (essentially gives you a second screen on an iPad)

The pros of the Lemur seem to me like it's more customizble and multi-touch, although you may have to make a template yourself if you can't find one. It's also fairly cheap.

The pros of the Duet is that is gives you exact visual copy of said VST, however, I don't think it's multi-touch as far as i'm aware. It's also far cheaper

Thoughts?

it's universally approved of

i mean if you don't know what or why you're buying it or if it's worth it that's kind of a lot to shell out. what are you trying to accomplish?
>>
>>75009881
fair enough.
do you own one? what interface do you use?
i just looked at the apollo as a good upgrade from the scarlett 2i2, mostly for the unison technology and the plugins.
>>
>>75009986
desu it's mostly just fear of dropping all that money. i've been shopping around for a while but just afraid to pull the trigger. wanted to see if anyone here has any experience with it or can attest to the plugin quality
>>
>>75009988
I'm not him but another interface to consider is the audient id22. The big plus is it has ADAT/optical in, so you can expand your amount of inputs with outboard preamps. Only downside is it's USB not thunderbolt
>>
>>75010045
awesome, thanks for the recommendation
>>
>>75009986
>I have no logical rebuttal so I greentext
what a dumb, typical channer

>>75010019
Your music will improve much more from being able to hear what you've recorded and what changes you're making in the mix. But do w/e you want guy. Right now you need an interface with the right number of ins/outs and maybe a couple built in preamps - of any quality. It's 2017, and the technology makes it so that you're spending $1000 on .1% of a difference in overall THD.
>>
hey i'm looking for feedback on these vocals (it's me singing or atleast trying to)

to be honest I'm trying to break out of my comfort zone
>i know that mixing is shit didn't even try

https://clyp.it/5x3jtdjz
>>
>>75010087
because lack of a perfect room doesn't make investing in a quality interface worthwhile dipshit, you just jumped to the room treatment meme immediately with no details provided

>>75010045
seconding this rec

i've spent way too much time looking into this shit and decided to upgrade to the audient over my shitty little scarlett when the funds permit it

adat opens up more possibilities if you're recording drums etc in the future

>>75010019
again, you haven't said what you're trying to accomplish.

it's a worthy interface but if you've got a pair of rokits and you're all in the box it *would* be a stupid buy. as far as plugins go, there are a lot of options and nobody knows what shortcomings you're trying to get over
>>
>>75010087
right, I get that. i already have the monitors in place and a reasonably good room acoustically. I'm simply looking for an opinion on the apollo and its plugins, if you own one.
>>
>>75010334

Hard to really sing out with the kind of quiet vibe you have going. Original uptempo version has room for a little more soul because it's faster and he can project more.

Glitching/chopping up vocals can be fun. Nivek Ogre did this pretty successfully in ohGr and later Skinny Puppy albums. Here, it's just enough to complement the vocals without being intrusive:
https://youtu.be/H2f37_UBvtU?list=PLvoyyfOXQgB8v3SYPVo31KnbRR-HZmVOj&t=121

Pitch shifting alone or layering them can give interesting results. This song by The Knife does both of these:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtdE7yMDdiA

Old talkboxes are cool too. Shobaleader One did it all over their first album, d'Demonstrator:
