>>74983731
Even fucking worse. At least RYM gets voted on, Wiki genres depend on who feels like adding them when the mods are not watching their article.
>>74983813
Good pick anon
Has anyone else heard this? Prob one of the best modern prog albums I've ever heard
>>74983739
Gentle Giant is fucking amazing. But I like Power and the Glory slightly better than Octopus
PatG > Octopus > Three Friends > Acquiring the Taste > s/t
>>74983774
This is also really good. Severely underrated. I don't see anyone talk about it. What's your favorite song off of it?
>>74983817
true that. I could literally just go change the genres on any obscure album right now, and nobody would notice
Easily
>>74983838
Probably Jordrök, the phenomenal drumming on it is a pleasure to listen to, such a shame that Mattias Olsson left the band after Viljans Öga
Of course I like all the classics but this album really sticks out for me. Zeuhl with some post-rock and noise rock influences.
>>74983904
What do you say to the people who criticize the album for being "overly pretentious, too long, and full of padding?"
(Not a hater, I love that album too. It was my first introduction to Yes)
>>74983774

does this count?

It has one of the most killer opening tracks ever but the rest album kind of pales in comparison, in my humble opinion

Of course. Great album. Great chops from Holdsworth & Bruford on this one. However I like the second one slightly better.

The build up on Starship Trooper.
Hands down my favorite prog album has to be Lamb I think. It just gives me all kinds of good vibes every time I hear it. Runners up would be Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa and Close to the Edge
>>74986719
I was just relistening to this, I'm on Perpetual Change and the whole album is way better than I remember! Originally thought just Starship Trooper and Your Move were the only good tracks.
>>74986477
Godbluff over Pawn any day. I also really like Still Life.
>>74986225
>>74984883
huge props to these albums, RPI is my favorite kind of prog. Per un amico is fucking fantastic but L'Isola di niente is superior.
>>74983834
I've never heard of it but thanks for recommending it anon. I'll make it my next album to listen to
Either this or Depression, Cressida is too underrated desu
This is really difficult, but if I had to pick it would probably be pic related.

>>74991092
The vocals are the best part what are you talking about? I wouldn't love the mars volta nearly as much without their strange yet catchy choruses
Not my favourite, but I really love it so I'll share it anyway

who said anything about weird I'm talking about shitty vocals from a guy who was in an emo band
>>74990862

>muh muh plant just a plant just a plant it's just a plant muh plant guys it's just a plant muh plant muh plant
>DUDE WEED LOL
*smokes it once and becomes transended*
I Don't think so sweetie.
Never trust an addict, their brains are being controlled and they will stop short of nothing to protect their precious addiction.
Good music, regardless of the lyrical themes or your position on its themes can simply good music. You can't just deny that something is musically good just because it has lyrical themes that you disagree with. But the fact is that there IS no good druggie music. It is ALL based on their cancer-brained druglaced psuedo spiritual BULLSHIT and I don't like it. Oh its a taste thing right? NO. The music just flat out SUCKS! I don't want to hear some gay ass hippie telling me how WICKED COOL he is because he burned some shityt little plant and breathed it in. Big whoop! Let me know when Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and the other greats of old took drugs just to write good music. Use your brains kids, not your garden.
And before you stoners even THINK about replying to me...
This is the only reply you'll ever get you drug addicted freak, and you're lucky for it. Go impose your destructive drug ideas on someone else. How about you turn yourself into the police, "friend"?
>>74991262
Red's great but my favorite is Discipline, followed by Beat with Absent Lovers as a necessary live complement. Levin/Belew/Bruford/Fripp is my fave lineup
Pic related is another fav prog/fusion album.
>>74991600
Jean Luc Ponty kicks ass, I'm just getting into his stuff and listened through EO and King Kong. What album should I listen to next?
>>74991599
ayy
>>74991600
Discipline is actually great. I haven't actually listened to beat or three of a perfect pair yet since I didn't hear good things about them.
Please tell me someone else has listened to this. I've never seen it mentioned on /mu/ even once
>>74991662
Three of a Perfect Pair ain't too bad but stay away from Beat
>>74991743
shit, meant to post link
https://youtu.be/hQTO3yAsvr0
>>74991744
what's wrong with Beat?
>>74991743
I have but damn it's been pretty long. I gotta relisten to it. It's definitely 10/10 prog folk. To be honest I think it's better than Jethro Tull, if we could compare em since they're both prog folk
>>74991801
It's really amazing, I definitely think it's better than Jethro, even though a lot of people will hate me for saying that.
It reminds of Comus in a lot of ways
>>74984401
De-Loused is my favorite album of all time, but between the two, I do think only Frances qualifies as a prog album.
>>74991662

Beat has great tracks on it, so does Three of a Perfect Pair.
Check out Waiting Man from beat, live:

>>74991846
I've yet to hear First Utterance but it gets a lot of praise, what do you think about it?
>>74991599
That's some tasty pasta, friend
>>74991792
Not that Beat is necessarily awful, but compared to Discipline and certain tracks from Three (namely Sleepless and Larks Tongues pt 3) it's got nowhere near the level of musicianship. If you're hella into Belew-era KC though go for it
who cold soup here
dying to hear a sample of lp10
>>74991874
Oh you have to listen to it! It's in my top 5 albums of all time! I love it so much I even use the cover art as a reaction image for other boards
Nothing I've ever heard really compares to it. There are these male vocals that are dark, twisted and perverted but at the same time they go in perfect harmony with the hauntingly enchanting female vocals. It's one the of the most beautiful and disturbing albums ever
>>74986221
I'm happy to see this here, the melancholic feeling that comes along with it for being the "last great prog album" of the era makes it even more impactful to me than the music alone. I also associate it with a really tough and isolating time of my life which I'm sure contributes to how much I love it.
>>74991973
>I love it so much I even use the cover art as a reaction image for other boards
top fucking giggle
I forgot what album it was but I did that with one too actually. It might've not been prog related though. Either way that's awesome to hear, I'll definitely give it a listen tomorrow!
>>74992006
Awesome man, this album is good stuff
>>74984222
I agree with them, then point out that it's amazing for those reasons.
