What does /mu/ think of the band Steely Dan? I liked Countdown to Ecstasy enough but desu it was kind of thin, how does the rest of their discography fair?

Also, RIP Walter Becker.

I read about Aja being really good, but I didn't know if their overall discog was worth checking out. Thanks for the tip, if you have any select anon picks to share I'd love to hear em.

qued em too, thanks. If anyone wants to use this thread to talk about whatever Steely Dan the like then please do, my late father was into them so it's why I'm trying to make an effort, thanks.

Wayne Shorter on the saxophone too, if I recall correctly.

I think you mean best

I disagree.
Although not their strongest effort Countdown to Ecstasy is a good album that certainly has it's moments.
Bodhisattva, Your Gold Teeth, and My Old School are but three reasons alone why this album is worth the price of admission.
Plus it has Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and Rick Derringer. If it weren't for that fact, they wouldn't have written Ricky, Don't Lose That Number, which would be included on their next album, Pretzel Logic.
It's a solid album. Maybe not their best, but I don't think Steely Dan ever really had a bad album.

GOAT band, literally the GOAT. I would have killed myself if not for their music.
I could listen to "Babylon Sisters" 1000 times. The atmosphere and production is jaw-dropping.

Surprised that no one mentioned the Josie song

I personally liked it since it was the first song I heard from the band.
