Prince was OK in the '90s, the symbol album was actually one of his best and there were other stabs at rap/urban funk fusion that somewhat justified that whole aesthetic. The problem was that he then founded a new record label that gave him license to release his work tapes, which makes his '90s repertoire seem worse than it was.
