You literally fucking cant
>>
>>74963968
Nah. Most music that comes from Washington is shit.
>>
>>74963968
Pennsylvania
>>
>>74963968
>grunge
>backpack rap

What else comes from this state?
>>
>>74963968
Historically, California and New York blow Washington out of the water ya goof. And I might also throw in my home town/state of Chicago, IL. Maybe Louisiana if you're into jazz, blues, dixieland, ragtime, gospel, etc. and any offshoots of those.
>>
>>74964058
Macklemore, the greatest rapper of all time, of course
>>
>>74964058
Jimi Hendrix
>>
>>74964012
yep
>>
>>74963968
I'm from here and I really dont get where you're coming from
we have KEXP?
>>
>>74964275
And twee.
>>
>>74963968
CA,NY, LA.
>>
>only has one relevant band
>>
>>74963968
Well California and New York have been the centre of music developments for decades, so probably those.
>>
Massachusetts, honestly. There's also Georgia.
>>
>OK, so you got the 90s Seattle scene, the K Records/Olympia scene, and Hendrix?

Georgia:
>Little Richard
>R.E.M
>B-52s
>Pylon, Love Tractor, assorted Athens bands
>Elephant Six
>NMH (post avery Island)
>Outkast
>Goddie Mob
>Jermaine Dupri and his projects (Ciara, Kriss-Cross etc)
>Danger Mouse
>Cee-Lo
>T.I.
>Luda
>Jeezy
>Killa Mike
>Gucci, assorted trap and snap stars
>Black Crowes
>Drivin'N'Cryin
>Janelle Monae
>Gladys Knight
>India Arie
>Usher
>Allman Brothers (founded in Jacksonville FL but based here)
>Black Lips
>Coathangers
>Mastodon
>Deerhunter
>Manchester Orchestra
>Johnny Mercer
>Blind Willie McTell
>Ray Charles
>Otis Fucking Redding
>James Fucking Brown

JB is the trump card. Louisiana can claim Louis Armstrong, who is debatably more important. WA cannot compete.

>>74965034
props
>>
>>74965118
Honestly, just off the Athens scene or the Atlanta Southern Rap scene, Georgia would have a pretty good claim; having Ray Charles, Otis Redding and James Brown basically makes them overtake nearly everyone.

The one thing that makes them stand out from North Carolina which could have had a claim, what with a surprising amount of great musicians being from there, is that the college rock scene in Georgia manages to be great, while North Carolina's is merely good.

Illinois, New York and California could have a claim, but while they have really high points, they also have really low lows. Georgia is pretty much steady.
>>
>>74965371
>north carolina
>college rock scene
Guess i wasn't looking for it, because that's news to me.
t. NCfag
>>
>>74965443
The Durham-Raleigh-Chapel Hill triangle, pretty big college rock scene.

t. NCfag (sorta, from another country but I'm probably staying here)
>>
>>74965443
not him, but the 90s Chappel Hill scene was strong. Squirrel Nut Zippers were cool to me, they're from Durham I think? And Little Brother/9th Wonder are pretty dang great. Not sure what's up nowadays, but I'm sure something's bubbling
>>
On my RYM, Seattle ranks 5th in cities, behind NYC, LA, DC, and San Francisco. So I guess that means for me, Washington falls behind New York, California, and DC (if you count it).
>>
>>74964012
PA resident here, what good music comes from here though?
>>

And Seattle is in Washington

Fuck you I'm not a uscuck
>>
>>74963968
Proportionally, you're right
>>
>not CA or NY
There's good stuff from basically every state, especially WA, but if you believe that any other state has contributed as much to art and entertainment as those two you're delusional
>>
>>74963968
south dakota
>>
>>74964181
who had to leave the country altogether to actually get to do shit
>>
who's from maryland? All I know are smaller bands and musicians from there, I can't seem to come up with any well known musicians from MD
>>
>>74963968
New York
Illinois
California
Georgia
Massachusetts
>>
>>74966268
Kek more like Americas trashcan
>>
>melvins
>modest mouse
>hendrix
>phil elverum
>nirvana
>beat happening
>unwound

washington is pretty solid actually
>>
>>74967133
I'm from Md. Animal Collective and Zappa are the first I always think of.
>>
>>74963968
>better music state than washington
all of them
>>
>NIN
>Guided By Voices
>O'Jays
>The Breeders
>DEVO
>Bobby Womack
>Isley Brothers
>Art Tatum
>Albert Ayler
>Roland Kirk
>Dead Boys
>Pere Ubu
>Brainiac
>Why?
>Sun Kil Moon
>Bone Thugs n Harmony

bow before Ohio's might
>>
>>74963968
>Vancouver
Uh, British Columbia isn't shaped like that?
>>
Florida is way better than I thought it would be
>death metal
shit that's it
>>
Illinois is undoubtedly the best state (for music)
>>
>>74964003
So wherever you're from has shit grammar eh?

>Dilla
>Eminem
>Juan Atkins
>DJ Assault
>a million other techno guys I don't know
>Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels
>Seger
>The Detroit Emeralds
>Kenny Burell
>Thad and Elvin Jones
>Yusef Lateef
>Paul Chambers
>Donald Byrd
>Milt Jackson

Washington and Ohio are definitely the best states. And honestly I only really say Ohio because of Devo haha, but yeah those two
>>74971049
What the hell comes from Illinois? I'm from there and can't think of any music except like Mudvayne and Chicago rap

I keep hearing about New York and the scene there. What is it about NY specifically? Is there anything worthwhile played there?
>>
>>74966087
dead milkmen, hall and oates, philly soul artists to many to list
>>
YEEEEEEAAAAHHHHHH

WA is best state altogether not just for music
>>
>>74973836
amen, brother
>>
>>74972844
I'd say the only real rival you might have is Georgia, because they can keep up with Motown. That said, Illinois, NY and California can keep up, but it's not a guarantee.
>>
>>74968885
also Roger Troutman/Zapp and Ohio Players, duh. good list tho.

>>74975320
fucking love the Milkmen. you slept on rap, tho. Schooly D, the Roots, Bahamadia, and a little outfit you may have heard of known as DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. I also love The Goats but nobody really knows them.
