i envy you

My dad is obsessed with Ryan Adams. He thinks the dude is the greatest thing ever.

I just wish he'd go back to the Grateful Dead and Springsteen instead of this shithead.

I'm a fan of Whiskeytown. RA by himself, ehhh.

Dave Matthews Band, U2, etc

I've never seen DMB mentioned OUTSIDE of the context of their fans.

22 grammy awards

and you haven't ever met a single person who likes them? interesting.

a musician with no fans is the cooolest shit ever
>>
>>74963709
i have to second that actually, i guess no one wants to talk about them after having been forced a download of their weakest record
>>
>>74964072
t. musician with no fans
>>
>>74963709
I've probably met fans of their newer stuff but they're not the kind of people who talk about music much or listen to music
>>
>>74964072
I think we can end /mu/ now
>>
>>74964159
i'll do you one better...
lets end america...
together

God, Ryan Adams is such a dickhead.
I mean, I typically try to be understanding but FUCK. I don't think I could stand to be in a room with him for more than 15 minutes at a time.
>>
Ariel Pink
>>
>>74964044
I have but I also live in Massachusetts where there's actually a noise music scene so that's not too out of the ordinary here.

this is one of my friends favorite songs. he's a manlet, of course
>>

>>74963709
It's weird. U2 are apparently super popular, sold a shit ton of records, won a bunch of awards, and have like the highest grossing tour ever.

And yet I've never met a single person who likes them. I can't name any of their songs. I can't even think of any bands that cite them as influences or any critics that positively rate their music (or talk about it all).

Aside from my best friend I've never met anyone who listens to her without me introducing them to her first.

they occupy the same virtual space as those little vanilla scented world market candles where everyone has at least one but no one really knows why

Because U2 is the quintessential Soccer Momcore.

The people with the lamest taste in the universe like them because they're inoffensive and middle brow.
>>
>>74961974
I know tons of BoC fans, to the point that BoC is pretty reliable music to put on if you don't know someone's taste
>>74963709
I knew people who liked them in middle school and high school. They aren't standing the test of time is all
>>74964044
I see people with Swans shirts sometimes, but yeah, I haven't met anyone who was a big fan
>>74968181
One of my dad's friends likes Kate Bush, so did someone I went to college with
>>74968762
This
>>
>>74961612
Merzbow
My Bloody Valentine
Throbbing Gristle
(or literally any industrial band)
Nick Drake
Rowland S. Howard (in real life nor online)
Jandek
Tonetta
White house (in real life nor online)
Sleep
(or literally any drone metal band)
SWANS
(or literally any noise rock band)

And I've met a lot of people. It fucking sucks where I live, the only people I've met who come close to patrician taste are one or two metal fans.
>>
>>74962967
My brother is a fan of both.
>>
>>74966538
This is one of those moments when I realize there are people on this board who are like a decade younger than me.
I don't know if it's still this way, but if you turn on alt rock radio, pretty much every hour they will play one of the Joshua Tree singles (or maybe One), one of the Nevermind singles, and one single from another of the big four grunge bands. As a result, due to overexposure, I basically can't listen to the Joshua Tree, or any of the big four grunge records.
>>
>>74968954
I just met a Throbbing Gristle fan at my workplace recently. Where do you live?
>>
>>74968954
>My Bloody Valentine
It's a meme these days. Literally; a handful of my friends like some page related to Loveless and I really would doubt they browse /mu/. Tons of people know that album especially. I've heard it being played before just walking around, and I even remember playing it for my bf at one point and him mentioning he'd heard it, even though he's not into music and didn't know what it was called
>Tonetta
Also not that uncommon, I think it's something a lot of fairly normal/non music fan people know of, but mostly because of it being a joke
>Jandek
I am the hugest Jandek Stan, but I have at least met one other fan, admittedly after luckless years
>White house
Someone I went to high school with was into power electronics. He'd share more obscure stuff with me, but I'm sure he liked white house as well. I'm sure he also is into Throbbing Gristle, Swans, and maybe Merzbow
>>
>>74968954
(Cont)
Literally any goth rock band that isn't Joy Division or the Cure
Today is the Day (in real life nor online)
Minor threat
(or literally any hardcore punk band)
Animal Collective
Faust
Red House Painters
>>
>>74969039
British Columbia, Canada. Nobody gives a fuck about industrial music here, even though skinny puppy comes from Vancouver.
>>
>>74969156
Bro they fucking played Animal Collective at frat parties after MPP came out. People like AC alright.
>>
>>74968992
>I basically can't listen to the Joshua Tree
Just don't listen to the first 3 tracks then???
>>
>>74969085
When you live in a small town with next to no music scene, the levels of plebianism are insane. The people I've met with the best taste in music listen to mumble rap and pop punk, the worst only listen to whatever's on the radio. I even know a few guys who are skilled guitar players, and their favorite band is nickleback. If I ever find someone around with taste somewhat similar to mine, I'll know there is a God.
>>
>>74968181
I know quite a lot of people that like Kate Bush, then again, I work in theatre so it's probably expected.
>>
>>74969156
im a huge today is the day fan and so is my coworker

For a long time I've been wanting to start a noise band in my home town. Unfortunately, I don't know if there's anyone around here besides myself interested in making that type of music. The people here are legit terrified of anything that sounds foreign to them.
>>
>>74969264
Oh, in a small town I guess it's different. Sounds like you need to take the initiative in that case, you need to get your friends into the shit you like.
>>
>>74969406
If I actually tried to get them into the shit I like, I probably wouldn't have friends lmfao.
>>
>>74969405
Try becoming e-famous first?
>>
>>74969435
You have to be patient. Introduce your pop punk friends to incrementally harder and harder shit until they're ready for actual hardcore.
>>
>>74966538
Rolling Stone fucking loves them (the auto-download album was AOTY) and Radiohead likes them, I'm pretty sure. Chris Martin wrote a bit for them in the 100 greatest artists list.
>>
what do you mean, a fan or a "this is my favorite artist/band"? cause the second one there is a ton of indie shit like that.
>>
>>74961612
I think you meant to say:
"Musicians of whom you've never met a fan"
You accidentally ended your sentence with a preposition
>>
>>74961612
I love Ryan Adams. He's a guilty pleasure in the same way Jack Kerouac is for me. There's something about him I can't help but relate to.
Really happy to see him go electric in the last two albums and return to a sound similar to Love Is Hell. The acoustic stuff was balls.
>>
>>74970001
I spent so long trying to figure out how to write the title lol

Not even bullshitting, I've never met a Radiohead fan outside the internet. I'll occasionally talk with some people who know who they are, but don't actively listen them.
