I can only use the keys, what are the rest of the buttons for? I can map the others to trigger samples bus is that it? I swear i'm only using like 40% of the buttons
Well you need to learn whatever DAW you're using first, most of the time MIDI controllers have all these buttons for DIGITAL manipulation. So as for triggering samples you can't really do that unless of course you're DAW allows you to.
An analog sampler however is something that can trigger samples in a breeze.
>use 'midi learn' to map a dial to the cutoff of your software synth
>have fun for hours
>map another parameter, rinse and repeat
Make acid
It's really not that hard to figure out

I keep hearing this but I can't find any help online and the manual is just about plugging it in

I had the lpd 8 and lpk 25, this one is pretty much the same...
Depends on what daw your are using, e.g. in FL Studio you just press ctrl+J, tweak shit on the DAW and tweak something in the keyboard, then is mapped for that parameter till you link other parameter to that same button.
Also they are plugnplay so they should work in any DAW.
Pro tip, search for the midi map online and install it on your daw
So, I'm looking to get into music creation., and I'm looking for a decent first MIDI controller. Currently I'm experimenting with LMMS for a DAW, but that might change if I come across anything better or encounter any issues with it.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Brands I should be looking at?
Brands I should avoid like the plague?

because that depends on the mapping capabilities of the particular DAW you're using. In Ableton you just press the MIDI button.
Technically you can map every single key or button to make whatever you want it to be, not just samples

You have to use it in a DAW

it's a midi controller, not a wife. if you have lots of money, get something nice. if you don't, get something cheap. go down to your local store and just feel the the ones they have. if you don't play the keys, it probably doesn't even matter that much. also, before you buy
- check reviews so that it's not literally literal trash.
What daw and controller OP? Most popular controllers come with a community or company made midi script that you can download so you can skip the mapping process.
