Second Law's biggest problem besides the "musestep" and other bad decisions is the order. One time I reordered the album and it got leagues better, actually felt like the music had an arc with both 2nd Law tracks as the book ends. Doesn't get rid of the other issues, but yeah.

Meanwhile, it's got the symphony and the aforementioned Eurasia and Unnatural Selection, but the rest of Resistance ranges from feasible to rubbish. Guiding Light makes me want to shoot myself more than Starlight does, which is saying something.

It's an easy fix though, just delete the 'musestep' completely and listen to it as individual songs. While it'll never be a -good- album for that reason it has enough redeeming songs to rank above the other two. Panic Station, Animals, Explorers and Save Me are all great songs.

Guiding Light surprisingly wasn't my pet hate with TR, it was boring and excessively cheesy but it was I Belong to You that I really couldn't stand. It's unsurprising they purged it themselves alongside Neutron Star Collision Even Exogenesis felt a bit boring and out-of-place compared to other more serious prog efforts like Showbiz, Citizen Erased and The Globalist. I don't get why they didn't just go for the same approach rather than a pleasant-sounding but babby's first concerto in a format unplayable live.
